A heat wave gripping the Tennessee Valley is expected to intensify by Wednesday, with temperatures staying in the mid-90s and the heat index approaching 110 degrees in some places.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook today for East Tennessee, southwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia.
This afternoon’s high will reach the low to mid-90s. Combined with humidity, the heat index will range from 95 to 105.
The forecast for Wednesday through Monday calls for much the same, but a brutal heat index of 110 degrees is expected in some spots Thursday and Friday across portions of the central and southern valleys of Tennessee.
This assault is the result of a large area of high pressure over the Tennessee Valley. Forecasters say it will strengthen through the week, with heat and humidity building.
The NWS says the conditions are “potentially deadly” and appropriate action should be taken.
Among the tips from the NWS: Stay out of the sun when possible. Slow down. Reduce strenuous activity. Drink plenty of water or other non-alcoholic beverages. Make sure pets and livestock have shade and water. Check on neighbors or family who are vulnerable to heat.
More details as they develop online and in Wednesday’s News Sentinel.

Normally, I would find this kind of weather in places like Arizona or Texas. But for it to hit the valley where I live, this is just ridiculous.
I wake up at around 5 in the morning over here so I can get to the Ford dealership where I work. The lows here are in the mid-seventies and this is around 6 to 6:30 in the morning. As I'm loading the first two parts on my truck, I'm already sweating like you wouldn't believe, and I've still got about thirty or so more parts to load up. And the garages that I have to go to aren't that much pleasant either. But the time I get to my stops in Kentucky (which is in the afternoon) it's in the upper nineties, with a strong humidity, which equals a heat index in the mid 100s. Add this to the heavy lifting that I have to do at some of my stops, it leaves me very exhausted by the end of the day.
Granted, I know that venting out this frustration isn't going to help much, but this heat wave has really been affecting me down here. By the end of my work day, I'm too exhausted for words to do anything else. I've been consuming as much liquids as I can and spamming the AC at both on the road and at home. I nearly freaked out when the AC at the upstairs of my house was not working (it's not fun coming home to an AC set at 25 degrees, when it feels like nearly 80) and feeling sympathetic for people in one section of our city that had to deal with their local power plant contending with a power outage.
Is there, or has there been, anyone who has dealt with weather like this? If so, you all got any further advice before I pass out? As I've said before, this weather has really been hitting me hard as I've been exhausted and rather cranky from all of this heat (they say weather affects moods). I'm really not used to this. Right now, I'm clearly begging for winter to show itself right now.
EDIT: I've decided to add in a weather map that shows the current temperatures. The white dot is shows where I live.
