Whew - it's finally up, but hopefully you'll agree it was worth the wait. Chapter 10 of "A Friend in Darkness" was just posted! www.fanfiction.net/s/3785522/11/A_Friend_In_DarknessAnd the illustrated version here: home.comcast.net/~gregfisk/friendindark10.htmMaze never liked technology, but when he uses Monkey Fist's device to increase his control over crows, he may change his mind.... Quoth Monkey Fist: 'What do you think of my new army? I guarantee - they will rock you!' This time out, Kim brought along the self-healing, spring-stepping, shield raising, hand-thingy battle suit! But will it be enough to fight the petrified residents of Graniton?

Yes, it was definitely worth the waiting - and I'm referring both to the chapter and the illustrations I think my top favorite is the one with Maze and the crows - I love the contrast of the crows against the sky, it just left me breathless for a good while when I looked at it. I don't remember if I mentioned it already (to lazy to check ), but I like how you draw Monkey Fist and the people he turned into stone - it really looks like stone, not just like characters who are not colored. And good to see Wade gets some attention, BTW - he's a very importan part of Team Possible, but people seem to forget him easily. Kim's battlesuit really ended up being useful in the fight - I love how you drew the shield, BTW.

Glad you enjoyed it! People on ffnet certainly seem keen to voice their thoughts on how the next Kim/Grimm encounter should go. I was surprised to get so many so quickly. Hopefully the next chapter won't disappoint....

Love your work Slyrr! I like how your drawings are similar to the show, but still manage to have your own style within it.

Well, I hope more than just similar . But it's true every artist somehow injects a little of their own selves into their work, since they use the techniques they find easiest - keep on readin'!

Or 6) Rueful has everybody sit down to a helping of pie before they all agree to work together to take down Monkey Fist and Maze.
Wow! The Battle Suit's magic-proof! XD

Rueful DID calm everyone down with his speech at the Golden Fannie awards recently. Maybe he can get both parties to work together....

Chapter 11 is up - again, sorry about the wait, but this chapter is a LONG one, and once you read it you'll see why it had to be so! www.fanfiction.net/s/3785522/12/A_Friend_In_DarknessAnd the illustrated version here: home.comcast.net/~gregfisk/friendindark11.htmGrimm showed up at Kim's house with a reluctant offer to help. This sort of thing has happened to Kim's parents before, but it doesn't make it any less awkweird.... Ron and Rhonda share an awkweird moment of their own in the spirit realm.... Of course, things aren't forgiven as easily as all that, and Kim threatens to put Grimm in jail so often that he brings in his lawyer - Leigh Gality! 'I surround myself with the best.' says Grimm. 'A lot of the best just happen to be girls.'

Thanks! There'll be more in the next chapter of course - the text to picture ratio was smaller in this one because there was just so much talking, and that's hard to draw and make interesting In fact, Grimm talks a lot, and there's only so much of it Kim can stand....

Once again, your illustrations are just stunning. I cannot decide what I like better - the illustrations or the story itself.
My favorite ones are the one with Grimm and Kim's parents and the pic with Ron and Rhonda. I absolutely adore the atmosphere and expressions in the first one, and Ron's disgusted expression in the second one. I like Leigh Gality's (great name choice XD) design a lot: even without reading the chapter, you can SO guess she's a lawyer XD Kim and Grimm's poses in the "fight" pic are just perfect, and I like how blurry the background is - it gives a sense of action to the scene. Well done.

Thanks - that's awful kind of you Some 'scenes' just demand a nice pic to go with them...

Chapter 12 is up! There's soul-searching on the homefront! Fallout for both Kim and Grimm after the stunt he pulled in ch. 11! A number of readers thought Grimm actually went too far this time, and that gave me some good ideas for this chapter! Keep your reviews coming, they help carry the tale along! home.comcast.net/~gregfisk/friendindark12.htm (Illustrated) www.fanfiction.net/s/3785522/13/ (Fanfiction.net) Rhonda can't cope in the spirit world without help - and to get it she uses... the PDP? She's Kim's best friend, and soon, she'll get her chance to prove it.... Finally after all the angst... understanding. Thoughts appreciated! Slyrr

I really like that expression on Ron's face, probably because of the lines around his mouth. They make his frustration seem stronger. Rhonda is also awfully cute with the puppy dog pout.
Kim looks great in that final picture. The way her hair is flowing in the wind makes her look ruffled, which is perfect considering that she was just crying her eyes out a moment ago. It also creates a calm and yet determined atmosphere, which fits the scene.
One thing I really like about your art is that you put so much effort into backgrounds. The characters are always the most central figures in your pictures, and yet the backgrounds are always so detailed. Take that Monique image, for example. The background is blurred so one could even say that most of your work was for nought, and yet it just wouldn't be the same pic without all the details. Nice.

Thanks - I seem to get more traffic on deviantart these days than I do here, and I've missed the 'here' comments because the rsnet folks are just so awesome The background is a major concern when doing a drawing for me - it has to be a very colorful backdrop to show off the characters. In the case of the monique drawing, I tried a non-blurry version, and determined that it actually distracted from Monique, who had to be front and center. Fading and blurring it just a little gave it the illusion of depth-of-field....

Ron must wonder if every woman can do the PDP, or just every woman he knows.

The art compliments the story perfectly...
Definitely the last one...pulls the story together and makes it seem as though its a new episode on TV rather than just a story with text...
That's what I like about good fanfic writers...They have the ability to pull the reader in just like the show, and it gives you a front row seat to what some would say is a unaired episode from the show...
Excellent work on all fronts...
