Hey y'all. I got a call yesterday that my mom broke her hand hauling cattle, and while my dad could drive for her, he said there are better things he could be doing right now. And since I'm between jobs I'm going back there for a few days to drive for her. There is an internet connection, but it's slow dial-up and the computer is ancient, so I probably won't get on till I get back this weekend. Not to mention that taking two loads of cattle per day will wear me out and I should be sleeping like a baby when I do get to the house. I have no illusions that I'll be able to look at everything I'll miss the next few days, so if you'd be as kind as to leave all the important happenings here for me I'd be appreciative. Danke. Oh, and just cause I thought you'd like to see, here's a pic of her hand directly after it got crushed (and it's bigger now):

Good lord! *pokes it* Gotta get some ice on that!
Hauling cattle sounds sexy. Take some pictures! Especially if it involves toplessness ^^ I assume all farmers go about their work half-naked.

Blood covered person: "I've seen a surfer getting ripped apart by a seahorse!" Nabu (saying): Oh that's too... Nabu (thinking): Wait, surfer?! ...perhaps his speedos got ripped apart, too...hmm... Blood covered person: "...stop drooling already, his speedos were still intact!"

Woohoo! I survived. Anywho, Mom is in a bit of pain (understatement of the year), but she'll survive. The boredom of sitting around the house is gonna do her in before her injuries.
I made it back with only minor injuries, and a few bucks in my pockets. And I'll have pics up when I'm not half asleep. We had a few ornery steers this morning, and I'm exhausted... it's sleepy time (3:11 a.m.).

Sorry to disappoint, Nabu, but it was cold (snowing, and freezing rain cold) so no half-nakedness. Besides, working with cattle you don't want to be half-naked, you need protection for if/when you get kicked and something to keep from getting liquid $#!+ all over you. And now for the main event: This is what I woke up to every morning bright dark and early (6a.m.) these pics are from when we first got this truck: Then I went to the feedlot ( here's the wiki for you city people that don't know what a feedlot is) and saw this, only pictures don't do it justice... imagine many acres of cattle like the ones shown here: While trying to get the steers loaded we had a few rowdy ones that didnt' want to get on the trailers, and fought with us to get their way. One group threw a gate back at me, and I caught it with my shin... and this is what happened through a pair of jeans and my tall work boots (it's about 2 1/ 2 inches long): But we finally got them all loaded and then we drove a few hours to Emporia where we opened the gates and let them run down the alley at the packing plant (formerly IBP, now owned by Tyson) where they were processed for resale before the end of the day. Then came the fun part of driving back home with an empty trailer in gusty winds, I thought I was gonna lose the truck/trailer a couple times (gotta love Kansas wind). And non-work related: I finally got my hair cut again, I don't have a picture of me, but the lady that cuts my hair made me take a picture. I always get the same haircut, short. It'd been 2 months since my last haircut and it was long, for reference my shoes are size 13 and I sat one of my sandals beside my pile of hair: Anywho, that's what I did the last few days. And I might be going back next week, depending on whether I get another job or not (this one, hauling cars with a semi).

I forgot a picture... hauling cattle is a messy job. You know how I said I was covered in $#!+... well, I was speaking literally: And that was only after loading a couple trucks, and we had 8-10 trucks per morning to load. I smelled like a dozen roses by 8 in the morning, and didn't get to a shower until, the very earliest, 4:30 p.m.

I only wear a size 13 boot, which is about a size 14-15 sneaker (I don't own any sneakers to be exact).
And my hair is a lighter brown, this year. I was born with coal black hair, and by the time I was 7 it was bleach blond (almost white), it turned brown about the time I turned 12. And since then it varies between dirty blond and a darker brown... I don't know why it changes either.

where are the chicks man? LOL. The only chicks I see all day are between 300 and 800 lbs, have hair all over their bodies, they are dirty, loud, stubborn, and have a face that not even a mother could love... And the crazy thing is, I'm going back tomorrow to do it again for a week... It sucks Mom got hurt, but it's gonna help my pocketbook for a few weeks hopefully.
