I returned from Kure Beach, North Carolina. I had a good time, but it's soooo depressing to come back to Tennessee. Did I mention that I hate this state? It was even worse since we ran into a snow storm on the way back. Wanna see some pics?
We stayed in The Atlantic Towers Hotel. Here is the club room next to the pool area. I brought my labtop and was able to keep up what was happening on the message board. The connection was so slow, I didn't bother to log in. I did work on the trivia for The Golden Years. Also, a young girl had a KP beach towel. I asked her for a picture, but she refused. Oh well.
Here is a tiki bar at the end of this pier. The pier was broken up in a storm a few years ago. The wooden posts can still been seen sticking out of the ocean. It's very interesting.
My sister got this pic of a car with a cardboard cutout of Will Ferrel in the back seat. I thought it was funny and included it here.
We got plenty of pics of birds flying around. Seagulls, pelicans, terns, hawks---there is lots of different types in the marshy beaches of Kure beach. This pic is my favorite.
We were on the 9th floor of the hotel. We got some great pics being so high up. I woke up early to get this beautiful sunrise shot.
This is the Cape Fear river. Blockade runners in the Civil War used to run up this river to supply the Confederate war effort.
During WWII, Kure Beach used to have an army base. It later became an Air Force base. Now it's only used for training army reserves. This helicopter and three tanks sit outside of one of the buildings.
Here is my sister and our waiter from TGI Fridays. We stopped there and had a nice supper. My lil sis got a crush on the waiter.
Here is the full moon from our hotel room. It's my favorite pic from the whole trip.
Here is Fort Fisher. It was a Confederate fort built during the Civil War made out of beach sand instead of brick or concrete. It helped blockade running ships come up the Cape Fear river to help supply the Southern war effort. It was taken over by the Union after two battles. The Civil War ended three months later after the Union was successful in blockading all the Southern ports. Most of the fort has been destroyed by rain and beach erosion. But you can still walk around what is left of the old fort, and visit the museum nearby.
The anchor is from the ship The Modern Greece, which was a blockade runner that sank in a storm. Many artifacts have been recovered from it.
We stopped at the Cape Fear museum. It details Wilmington NC from it's early exploration days, Colonial era, Civil War era, World War 1 and World War 2 era, and the modern era. Four giant ground sloth fossiles were found in Wilmington. It reminded me of a naked mole rat. This replica fossil is 9 feet high!
The only pic of girl in a bikini I got. The wind was blowing so there wasn't many people swimming. Most were sunbathing. So there were plenty of cute females in bikinis to look at.
The only pic of me that is available. Our hotel had a small game room. I put in two dollars worth of quarters in the pinball game, and won twelve games.
Unfortunately, this vacation drained me of my savings. So I won't be able to go to San Diego for Comic Con this year. But it was important to bring my lil sis down, let her spend time with the 'rents, and take a few days off from work.
