My Buddy Adam (One of the other webmasters of SDS) is currently developing plans to make a huge new KP fansite. This new site would be independent of SDS and any other forums, so we're trying to reach out to as many KP fans as possible for input. Here's what's Adam's thinking so far: -Start Block Quote- Wayne (dmb1981) and I think this would be a great idea to do, but we don't have the support/following to implement yet. Here's the basic idea we want to do... And Wayne, if you want to add to/edit this feel free to... Fanfiction Submissions -- Through KPFanFiction.com Screencap Submission -- Not 100% sure how to handle this yet Episode Guides Goofs Guide Message Board -- This is still up in the air We'll update this as we get closer to actually doing this. But we're going to need support to get it. Yes, we're aware of TV.com and ARA's KP Tome, but TV.com's site really sucks, and doesn't allow for ALL of this... KP Tome isn't dynamic and you have to submit through their forum. Makes updating time-consuming. So, if we do it, it's going to be using the PHP/MySQL/Apache platform, if anyone's interested in helping (either with imaging, design coloring, coding, funding, etc) post it in here. The funding won't come into play for a while. We'll need to get it going pretty good first. And to start out with, we're going to be using our site (thescripters.com) for development. I think if we get a good crew working on it, we can have it going within just a few weeks or so. We'll have some more information as Wayne and I work some things out. -End Block Quote- You can reply to his message and view replies from SDS members here: forum.savedisneyshows.org/viewtopic.php?t=962Replies posted in this thread will be forwarded to Adam and Wayne by me.

I'm surprised nobody has responded to this..... Does no one want to help with it? EDIT: www.kpfanworld.com is the URL

I might be able to help a little with the coding aspects of the site, depending on time regulations. I'm familiar (self taught) with the hypertext markup language and can do some cascading style-sheets and web design, if that's of any help. It's been a while since I've done any website work so this could be a nice refresher. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Ooh! By the way, I did offer to help a while ago on SDS, but then I excused myself for my exams.
Now that I'm done I have some spare time, would my skills in Visual Basic.Net be of any help? I've never actually used the ASP.et aspect of it, but I can program in Windows forms. Still, I doubt that's of any use to you, though.
Just tell me what you need, and I'll do what I can!

KP tome is quite complete and submitting through their forum isn't "time consuming". Its a matter of control. SDS has issues with ARA and vice-versa. I guess it would be nice to have a backup site, but seems like an awful lot of effort for a backup. Maybe you should consider doing something a little more unique?

More unique how, exactly? I don't see how it could get more unique... but please, explain...

Well, the ep and goof guide is completely covered via kp tome. ff.net has fan fiction covered. I'm not sure about the screencap submission, but there are plenty of off sites that have screen caps hosted (although a "one stop" shop for every episode and HQ shots would be nice) and there are numerous msg boards already in existance.
So, other than possibly a comprehensive screen shot library, I don't see the need or the point, other than to serve as a "backup" in case one of these other sites fails (ff.net, kp tome, etc.).
Now, is there something you can do that NO ONE really has done very well that would serve the KP community? I think so. Allow me to throw out some ideas....
- KP News Site There are some various sites out there that have KP news items, but I haven't seen ANYONE do it comprehensively with daily updates. I have at least 15 sites bookmarked that at one time or another contained KP news items. With some creative programing, I'm sure you could put together some active scripts that search these sites (and others) for any KP tidbit and instantly kick out fresh KP news as it occurs.
Forum Scanning There are several KP fandoms out there and its rather cumbersome to visit them all to see what is going on. It would be quite cool to have a "master" site that reports new threds being created in each forum so you can decide which forum you want to visit to read up on fandom news. Again, some creative scripts with search capabilities would need to be employed.
KP Video Library I've seen vids on You Tube, Google, Photobucket, SDS and even rs.net (before we lost the host). It would be nice to have a central area to host all of these in unrestricted size parameters and the ability to stream direct in HQ.
KP Gaming Site Disney has most of the games on their site, but there are some other games out there that are KP related (either in existance or being worked on at one point). My Soitaire deck is one example. I know we had a user here messing around with a KP RPG game. He had all the spites built, but I'm not sure what happened after that. Maybe have a central site with all games and links available. I know we have some users who have created some flash games as well of KP (Some PG 13 and above, but you can make the call on what gets included)
Link Library Now I know some forums have links to interesting KP sites, but if we all combined our links, I'll bet we could build a library of interesting KP places that would blow you away. I personally, have over 70 sites bookmarked that are KP related...and thats not counting all the KP forums that have been created and posted in our links area. There are easily 200+ KP Forums and KP related sites on the net. Would be nice to have them all organized and posted in one spot.
Signature/Avatar Creation Site I noticed someone over at SDS was making some nice custom avatars/sigs for people and I know we have some creative talents over here at rs.net as well. I'm sure some people would love the ability to create their own avatar/sigs from some unique art provided by these talents. An interactive flash site that would allow you to create your own original sig/avatar or whatever would be quite fun and useful.
Anyway, my point is that there are lots of unique things that can be done that haven't really been attempted and could serve the KP Fandom well. It would make more sense to me that if you are calling on talents of the fandom to create a new "mega" site that their talents and efforts would be best utilized creating something that doesn't exist.

The basic site has been in discussion since the idea was thought of. One thing I'd thought about would be "This day in KP history" kinda like what MickeyNews does in their newsletter for Disney history... A news site would be awesome. It would be a wondeful place where crew could post their news as well as members could post various links to, say, Reuters, Associated Press, etc Another feature we thoguht about that hadn't been brought up at the time Greg posted that... Sort of a blog for any crew members who wanted to do it... Kinda like Christy's "Journal" page... Link library would be "hugemongous" I have no doubt.. that was kind of in the works too... As for the message board, every site has to have something, doesn't it? But I think it'd be limited to like announcements, site-related stuff, mostly... It's the most efficient way (I think) to handle requests and/or technical issues... But I certainly wouldn't complain if it was used for more.... The video section sounds wonderful... Bandwidth and space costs money... To do what you propose, I would think we'd need a good 15 GB of storage... which pits KPFW costs well beyond my earlier figures. Especially bringing in the bandwidth considerations... Sig/Avatar creation... I know next to nothing about Flash.... But PHP I can do... If the artists didn't mind helping, that might work too... I mean to get some of the more intricate and advanced designs.... Overlaying text shouldn't be too big a problem... But having users upload their text in GIF format might be better... With the transparency thing... cooltext.com does cool stuff with text.. and their GIFs are transparent... just do some resizing, overlaying, etc... and then when it's how they like it, they can just save it.... Just an idea... Forum scanning.... maybe if every forum had an RSS feed... but most don't come with that... So that isn't really an option... Except on boards like SDS where an RSS feed could be created without too much difficulty... Provided the date could be figured out.... I like the idea of news scanning... But again, not quite so easy... I'd have to figure out how to get PHP to read XML to figure it out... That's not really a problem... It will just take time... We could probably primarily work off of Google's RSS news feed looking for KP.... Now, the gaming site would be coooooool.... Central place for news of official Disney games (such as the newest KP game from DisneyChannel.com) as well as a place for people to post their own changes, models, etc for popular games... Or to post games themselves, such as (I think kevin Karstens created) Shegotris... A tetris-style game, except shego-style... And it's nice to finally get some feedback on it...

Sorry for the double post... But the other one was long enough already, and this only kind of applies to that post...
I looked around and found what's called a VPS (Virtual Private Server) for $30/mo ($27 if you sign for a year) in which you are given 20 GB of storage and 1 TB of monthly bandwidth.... that's 1,000 GB for those who don't know...
I think it'd handle most everything you're talking about here... the only question being the video... But at 20 GB, you'll be able to fit a lot of video and a lot of screencaps... hi-res screencaps.... being a private sever type of thing, CPU usage isn't as critical... So more could be done... And their servers are fast... At least their shared hosting plans are each on dual OC-48 connections... So I'd imagine the VPS was too...

Wow, 1TB *drools* That'd rawk. And you could also make the site 'unique', as I suggested on SDS, by making it the ultimate KP resource! Like a wiki (without the open editing) of everything KP - villains, allies, gadgets, places visited, clothes worn, quotes from the show, editorials and essays about characters and situations, interviews and a 'little things' page with things not disclosed in the episodes or movies, things you may have missed, mistakes/goofs, name origins i.e Will Du etc and to finish off, a podcast! You can have a media section with downloads, wallpapers, avatars, videos etc. Then a section about the actual show, with episode guides, episode transcripts, movie reviews, movie transcripts, video game reviews etc. And finally, a section for the fans - linking to fan fiction and fan art sites, and forums. If you're going to do something 'epic' - make it HUGE I mainly got these ideas from a Harry Potter fansite called 'Mugglenet' - www.mugglenet.com. There's also another site called the Harry Potter lexicon: www.hp-lexicon.org/. The first is predominantly a news site, the latter is a resource. A combination between the two would make the ultimate HP site ever, in my opinion. Coding the website and designing it should be like 25% of the hard stuff. The actual gathering of information, thorough research and writing up should take the better part of 70%. The remaining 5% is finishing off the site and spreading the word. I know this sounds easier to write then it is to actually do, but I'm sure it can be done!

I'm positive it can be done. And quite frankly, I'm glad we're finally seeing some interest. We want to make it huge. No no... We need to make it huge! ;D
Or, for $6.95/mo you get 15 GB of storage and 400 GB of bandwidth... Their servers have a little bit slower connection though...
EDIT: I thought of something else we could do.... MadLibs!

No, that's where you have some sort of short story and the user inputs various adjectives, verbs, nouns, etc and see what happens to the story.... Note: they put in the nouns, adjectives, etc BEFORE they see the story at all...

Ah yes, I've done something like that before. It's usually done by a prompt inputty text box thing system. When I did it, it asked for names of myself and people I knew. And those people got put into an interesting short story lol. It was quite fun.

Okay, so you are going ahead with KPFW. I wasn't sure if you would or not. ;D Except on boards like SDS where an RSS feed could be created without too much difficulty... It could? Why did no one ever mention that before? I'll have to see if we can do that between Wayne and Myself... Also, dracko19 had some good ideas, especially the news and game ones. Try and get those in there.

I plan to do exactly as dracko suggested...
The only problem with phpBB is you'll have to figure out how the time is encoded... It's some weird number and I haven't looked to see... There are a few MODs on phpbb.com, however, to create RSS feeds...
