I can tell you from experience, "Tactical straps" are not the most comfortable things in the world (I wear one every night at work to keep my PDA holster from slapping my leg - it's a trade-off) It's occasionally refered to as a "thigh tie" as well. It's actually an old military design, and it's use dates back to the days of the calvary. The idea was to prevent a holster from bouncing on your leg while you were riding a horse. Failing to implement this precaution could result in a nasty blister after a long, hard ride. This was my grandfather's sidearm in World War One. Although the calvary had been discontinued by that point, (the horses were replaced by tanks), old habits die hard in military circles, and so the leather tie was still present on the newer holsters of the time. This particular tie has never been removed from its manufacturer's coil:

New look?
While I do see the point that Kim would eventually change her mission clothes after 4 years, her being a fashion person and all, I think perhaps it won't stick.
The animators won't stand for it, at least I wouldn't. You don't just change a key part of someone's job for no reason. That means they have to change everything they have to match the outfit. Intro's, outtro's posters, etc. Maybe it'll be a single storyline or two. Especially if the club banana thing is brought up again. I'm sure with such a genius like wade, who made the battle suit, and Ron, who, can sometimes do things, can come up with some solution. Ron does seem to be good with his hands on occasion, like with baking, so sewing clothes shouldn't be a longshot for him.
If it does stick, purple has to go. It's too 'loud' of a color. She does a lot of stealth work, and I can't see purple blending in very well with terrain, unlike the current outfit.

Except, when Kim needs to be really stealthy, she can resort to the 'stealth suit,' plus I think in the real world the colors would be sufficiently dark.

A friend of mine found this, and we both agree tha tthis may have been one of the inspirations for Kim's new look. Tom Strong, created by Alan Moore --Erin M.

The strip isn't that bad anymore, I think it was time for her to have a new look.
