I always like to look at a religion in an unbiased manner; even though I don't agree with religion on the whole, I still look at each faith's creed, and at what it expects of its adherents. There are some which keep to themselves, seek personal spiritual advancement, and don't really care about the world as a whole. Christianity, though it used to be the opposite, seems to have become such a religion, since the majority of people are growing tired of it. Many of the morals it fights for are those which any rational human would agree with, and others are just not suited for the modern age, and need to be reevaluated or perhaps thrown out completely. Although the days of Christian theocracies are over, the era of Muslim theocracy is still upon us--and I think it's more glaring now than it ever has been.
I'll be honest: I have not read the Holy Koran (at least not enough of it...though I do have a copy), and I don't want to read anything out of context. But this does not change the fact that some of what I have read or seen quoted (usually by those on the conservative far right) is very explicit. I know Islam claims to support the lower class, but I can't help getting the feeling that Allah is not a happy god, and that Mohammad was perhaps not a fair prophet.
I hear people talk about how Islam's true goal is to control the world, and that this is what is expected of real Muslims. They say that men like Bin Laden are not extremists or perverters of Islam--they are the ones who interpret it correctly. In short "a peaceful Muslim is not a true Muslim."
I am well aware of how many Muslim members we have on these boards, but as this is your ask me thread, I'm not too worried. This is a legitimate question anyway. It seems to me that the ones who are at the top of this religion don't give a da.mn about Allah--they simply want to stay in power, and to maintain the social order which has existed for centuries. The peasants who strap on the bombs to blow themselves up in Tel Aviv nightclubs--they just buy into it because they have nothing else. I find it to be very sad, and a crime against human dignity if there ever was one. I don't think mankind can ever truly advance while forces like this stain the Earth.
I hope I'm not being out of line here, but I know from past threads that we both feel the same way about religion--it is self-enslavement. And as much as I hate to say it in a forum full of Muslims who seem to be great guys...I fear that Islam may be one of the most dangerous foes to human evolution that we have yet seen.
What do you think, and what can we do? A global revolution of the type Communism demands might cause people in Islamic nations to abandon their faith, and the numerous absurdities that go along with it, but it is still such an integral part of their culture. I feel that at this point, they would be more likely to fight the revolution than embrace it. We would give Capitalism the coup de grace, only to end up facing off against Islam in an epic battle for the fate of mankind.
I think I'd actually enjoy that...
And...what was up with Marxist groups like the RAF training with Palestinians, and often engaging in operations where they worked together (such as the failed Lufthansa skyjacking which took place at the end of the "German Autumn"--right before the main leaders of the RAF committed suicide in prison?)
How do we get around that?

I currently live alone in my flat - but my parents and friends are only a few streets away. I am considering getting a room mate to help pay the rent - the landlady wants double now Did you sit her down and explain to her the evils of capitalism?

Did you sit her down and explain to her the evils of capitalism? Why did I not think of that! ;D Next time she wants to increase the rent I will simply lecture her for 4 hours on class warfare, dialectical materialism and Marxist economics ;D She will be so puzzled that she will forget that she wanted to increase the rent ;D ;D LOL. She'll probably avoid contact with you as much as possible in the future, too. That way she won't have to be lectured again. Who knows? You may never have to pay rent again! ;D (I'm glad Marxist has a sense of humour.

Have you read anything by Friedrich Nietzsche?
His works were edited by his sister (a Nazi sympathizer) after his death, and used by the Third Reich as a means to promote their myth of Aryan superiority. But Nietzsche himself was never a racist, and in fact was forced to end his friendship with famed composer Richard Wagner, because Wagner was an anti-Semite. It's a shame that Nietzsche has been so misunderstood...I find his idea of the "superman" to be fascinating, and I do agree with a lot of it. In my mind, the Ubermenschen are the first humans to "evolve", and their job is to help facilitate the evolution of the rest of humanity.
What this "evolution" is, exactly, (whether it is physical, spiritual, or both) is debatable, but I think Nietzsche has a lot to offer us--he held man up as something more than just an organic lifeform--something which had the capacity to transcend what it currently was, and to gain greater knowledge of the universe.
Of course, I can see how this philosophy could be easily melded into both Marxism and Fascism, and I'm not entirely sure if it belongs in either. What do you think?

What's the most expensive thing you've ever eaten? I once had antelope at a University Fund Dinner - cost me over 756 South African Rand (100 US$). It was so badly cooked that I sent it back to the kitchen . Yikes. That's pricey. BTW, my brother-in-law is a chef and he told me that sometimes sending things back into the kitchen is a bad idea. Sometimes "things" can "happen" to your food before it comes back. What does antelope taste like when it's cooked correctly?

I don't like seeing tv shows or movies where the main character is made fun of for half the movie/tv show and then, after some events, they end up friends with the people who made fun of them. Why would anybody be friends with someone who made fun of them? It's a stupid thing. Thoughts?

What do you think of my army? I'm extremely curious as to your opinion on this. As long as it is a People's Army, dedicated to liberating the Proletariat and destroying Capitalism - then you can count me in (besides I need to improve my post count ;D ;D)! Um... low post count type People, yes. Definitely revolution-like stuff going on. ;D
