Do you ever run across entertainment from your youth and find yourself getting punched in the face by just how easily you used to be amused? I just saw Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead by chance the other day, which I thought was pretty cool when I was ~7 years old. Now I just can't believe I ever watched it in the first place. Oh, yeah. And some of it is really embarrassing, like making sure I was always home to watch Beverly Hills 90210 when I was in high school. Had to see if Brenda and Dylan were going to get together...or break up...or get back together... I actually liked Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and I don't even have the excuse of having been a small child. Oh, I don't know. I'd guess, from things I've heard people say, it's probably about half and half. And it differs for different people at different ages, I think, and depending on how their life is going at the time. But if I were to take a survey of people I know, I bet more people would say they're happier now ( now being in their 30s or 40s) than they were as teens. But I don't really talk to a lot of people IRL. Yeah, I remember you saying you guys got your house so that the neighbors couldn't have a direct line of site. ;D Can't say that I blame you. How did your trip go to hell so badly? It didn't seem that bad a few days ago when you first got your lap top. And after reading my thread, I gotta ask... how good does that moonshine taste? ;D Oh, having the car break down...three times...pretty much killed the trip. Being in a very small house with my mom and stepdad and both my kids (and not my husband) is usually a test of my endurance anyway, but without the car as an escape...ugh. Other than places we could get to on a golf cart (everyone down there uses golf carts as transportation for short distances) I was dependent on my mom for transportation. I didn't like that when I was 14 and I definitely don't like it now. We finally had to have the car towed home, where the problem turned out to be a simple bad relay. Oh, I've never had any 'shine. That was before my time. But my grandpa could have not only told you how it tastes, he would probably have sold ya a couple Mason jars full.

You and Twila's grandpappies sound like interesting fellows I would have wanted to meet. XD Since I've been quite interested in U.S. history of late, who would you consider to be some of your favorite presidents?

Could you and your husband have fixed it yourselves then? No, neither of us are especially good with cars, but my husband's cousin is a mechanic (no, he's not a guy named Ed with a mullet; he's a guy named Charlie with a bald spot), and he fixed it in about a half hour, for about fifty bucks instead of the lengthy, expensive ordeal at the beach. Oh, I've never had any 'shine. That was before my time. But my grandpa could have not only told you how it tastes, he would probably have sold ya a couple Mason jars full. Before your time?! Oh, I'm sure you could find some in the mountains somewhere, but around here it's all homeowners associations and neatly trimmed lawns and zoning ordinances now. I always liked Abraham Lincoln, both for his presidential accomplishments (abolishing slavery, keeping the country together through the civil war) and because of his personal attributes...he grew up on a struggling farm, barely attended school, and was mostly self-taught; he was somewhat awkward, not considered especially good-looking, nothing elite or privilged about him, often struggled with some sort of depression or moodiness...and yet he became one of our greatest Presidents.

Plus, if he became a zombie, he'd look like Frankenstein's monster!

Plus, if he became a zombie, he'd look like Frankenstein's monster! Which would only make me more likely to vote for him.

Andrew WK. Was he awesome or did you hate him? You mean this guy ? To be honest, I had never heard of him before you asked the question, so...no opinion I guess. I was paying even less attention to music in the late-late 90's through early 2000's than I usually do.

What was the best concert you ever went to?

What was the best concert you ever went to? Hmmm...well, honestly I haven't been to that many concerts. I guess I'd have to say, from my college days, Bon Jovi. Good show, and I had wanted to see them for a long time before I actually got to. The most recent concert I went to was the Avett Brothers in Charlotte on Saturday. Have you ever seen/heard of them, since you're from around here? They have a very unique sound...sort of punk-bluegrass-rock. I know...sounds weird, but somehow it works, and they put on a great show. One of my husband's co-workers went to high school with them. Here's a sample: They're sort of a local flavor, I guess, but ya gotta have balls to decide, "Hey, we're gonna have a rock band with a banjo, a stand-up bass and a cello in it".

How has your summer been?

How has your summer been? Hey Mickey! Welcome back! Hope you had a good summer. My summer was way too short. I can't believe I have to go back to work next week. I'm not ready! I probably won't be around here much as work and school gets going, because I have a lot of class-prep to do this semester. But I'll check in occasionally.

What I find hilarious is how easily many females get incredibly angry when you say something like, "Jack Sparrow/Edward Cullen is gay."
Conversation at a Barbecue this summer:
Me: I think we all know what kind of pirate Jack Sparrow is. Joe: Why don't you tell the old lady that? Joe's old lady: Tell me what? Me: Captain Jack Sparrow is a flaming homosexual.
She just go so intense, it was ridiculous. She was so angry I thought she was going to grab a log from the fire we had burning and smack me in the face with it.

I'd say they're not my type...and Edward Cullen's supposed to be, what, seventeen? Biologically, I could be his mother, easily, so if I thought he was hot or cute or whatever...creepy. (Yeah, I know he's been seventeen for like a hundred years or something but...you know what I mean). But, uh, maybe it's a topic you should avoid with Joe's girlfriend.

Yeah, uh, even if I did go for younger men, (I don't care if he's an old vampire; he goes to high school, for Pete's sake-- and what kinda weirdo would willingly go to high school if they were a vampire and didn't have to and didn't need to-- and how was he allowed to enter, anyway?) which I don't, I wouldn't touch Cullen with a ten foot pole. Unless there was a stake at the end of said pole. And even then I'd have to be reassured that he wouldn't explode into a cloud of glitter and ruin my outfit. As for Jack Sparrow, he's kinda funny...but hot? Eh. Meh. *shrugs* How are ya, by the way, Char?

As for Jack Sparrow, he's kinda funny...but hot? Eh. Meh. *shrugs* How are ya, by the way, Char? Yeah, I tended not to date high school boys when I was in high school. And if I were a vampire, even an undercover secret vampire that only occasionally ordered take-out from the Red Cross, I could find much better things to do with my time than repeat eleventh grade for the 83rd time. If people were suspicious about a bunch of teenagers who didn't go to school, the Cullens could have just said they were home-schooled. It would have been so much simpler. (Yeah, I read it. Wanted to know what everyone was talking about).Anyway...I'm fine. We just got back from Charleston, SC. One of my husband's sisters has a condo on one of the barrier islands there, and they invited us to stay with them for Labor Day weekend (it's a holiday here that once had a real purpose but now just signals the end of the summer beach season). It wasn't bad, just a bit crowded...eight of us in a 2-bedroom condo, including my two little girls and her two adolescent boys. It seems to be my blessing and my curse to have relatives with places at the beach. Other than that, I've just been really swamped at work. Our college adopted a new textbook for freshman comp this year, so I not only have to redo what passes for my lesson plans, I have to actually (gasp) read the darn textbook. Plus I'm teaching a business writing class I haven't done in a couple years. Plus-plus since so many people are out of work, our class sections are much bigger than usual. I'm used to 15-18 students per section. This semester I have 25-30 students per section. I estimate I'll be grading about 400 3-5 page papers this semester. Ugh. I need a new job. So that's why I haven't been around much. But, I did see you published the last chapter of Maslow. I'll write a review soon.

After I turned 15, I didn't date high school boys, either. Go figure. @___@ O LAWD 400 papers! D: Good thing you probably won't have anything from me to beta read this fall semester, then. Good to have you back, anyway. And thanks for the nice review you left me.
