I was listening to the Wicked broadway soundtrack this evening. It gave me a video bunny!

I want to make a video about Kim and Shego's er...relationship to "What is this Feeling?" The lyrics are just ...too oddly fitting. Strange green girl at odds with the perfect popular princess? Teeheee.

Anyway, uh. I've never actually even thought about making a video before. I figure I can muddle through with some tutorials and such, especially since I'll probably have to use the dreaded Windows Movie Maker.

But what I'm wondering, is if any of you are familiar with the song, and probably better versed in the episodes than me, what ones would be good clips to consider? I'm trying to expand on the idea somewhat. I only have access to 1-3, though, seasons-wise. So, really. Curious is as curious does - expand my brain, and maybe I will actually get around to making it?

I'm not exactly wanting to make it explicitly Kigo, either. It's just more of a funny kind of project than anything that's supposed to be more than trying to poke some fun at their idea as each other's rival.

Not only is it interesting, I've actually got a sort of similar idea, except mine's going to be fanart (I'm coloring the first picture as we speak). Hope you make it!

Well, at least I'm not the only one with strange, fannish ideas~! I'd do it now, but I haven't actually planned it out more than oooh, this would make a cool video. I wish someone had one made for it. But there isn't, so should I try?

So really, any good suggestions would be awesome. I know there's some topics floating about on what kinds of programs are good to use for making videos, so I'm more fishing around for suggestions about what might be included - in tune to the lyrics and such, I guess?

Well, let's see...first off, Windows Movie Maker isn't a bad program, per se...but if you have other options, use them. Short of lip-syncing (which is super hard), I'm not sure how *exactly* to make it work. Just fiddle around a bit.

Funny how, even though they came from completely different origins, how many similarities there are between Kim/Shego and Galinda/Elphaba. My daughter observed that right away (she was then 7 when she drew this):



As for being a fan...I first bought the CD in the Fall of 2004 and my wife and kid played the thing practically non-stop for almost 2 years! Not that I complained, it's just about the most perfect musical ever penned, IMO. We were fortunate to get seats at a Chicago performance in July 2005. Ana Gasteyer (of Saturday Night Live fame) played Elphaba, and Kate Reinders was Galinda. It was an awesome performance!


I agree with the others that it would be really hard to do a lip-synch if you're not experienced with it. If you're a beginner at video editing, just look for scenes of Kim and Shego showing resentment towards each other (but not necessarily in actual combat). Usually the best times for that is during the short dialogue between the two that occurs just before they engage in fighting, and such scenes are found in nearly all episodes in which Shego appears. Then time the video cuts to coincide with key points in the music.

Of course, there are also little things you could do with the lyrics. Like, where Elphaba calls Galinda "blonde", Kim posing as Camille would be perfect. Or for the chorus, show shots of all the scientists they have ripped off talking to Kim.

Or you could take tips from other videos that have done this. One of the better ones I've seen is from Negima. Good timing, and even a bit of lipsyncing. Plus good use of cuts to the beats. I don't think a better job could be done using the source material.

Random fact: Such a video exists on youtube with She-Ra and Evil-Lyn from "Masters of the Universe", and it's quite funny.
But I'd like to see it done KP-style, too!

I've started working on it, if only to get a feel for how to actually make a video. After spending the better part of an hour and a half to get less than a minute of actual footage (about forty seconds!), lip-syncing went right out the window. I think the feeling will be easier to do at this time, at least until I get a better grasp on how things work.

Maybe if I decide to redo it later, I will try and make it better, but for now, I just want to run away with the idea before my muse leaves me with (yet another) half-complete project.

It's coming together better than I thought it would, although my stock of episodes is severely limited thanks to coding issues with WMM. Oh, well. I've pretty much decided this is just going to be a "practice" video.

I'll probably get it done this weekend, and post it up here for your critique.

I did it! I did it!! It took three days, several hours (I lost track after 3), and it's not perfect. But I did it! My very first video. I think it looks ok, all things considered. I started scrambling for footage about halfway through, and had to find some more, which delayed the project somewhat. I added a link to it in the first post, and I'll toss it here as well
