Let me introduce myself; I’m Mike, I’m almost 21, live in merry old England and I’ve recently been hooked by the Kim Possible bug.
I was very disheartened to learn that the series/franchise had ended production, since Kim Possible is such an amazing show.
Looking for information on a possible Season 5, or even just rumours, I found this site, but, from what I can gather, half the fans who campaigned for the 4th series were satisfied with what they got, a full ending seen in the series episodes themselves and Graduation compared to the end kissing scene of So The Drama, and moved on to other shows and avoided contributing to the Fight For Five campaign.
The other half of the fan base still desperately clings onto slim hope for another full season.
Aside from a new ride opening in one of Disney’s resorts, nothing has been heard of anything new to do with Kim Possible (and this is most probably the ‘secret super project’ mentioned in the ‘So The Finale’ blog,) and it’s quite possible that Disney sees the franchise as being fully concluded even while it’s still insanely popular amongst people of all age groups and nationalities; its rabid fan base is just asleep due to official Kim Possible inactivity (yes, even the ones who were satisfied with the Season 4 episodes and ending), but I just know it’s a sleeping giant ready to be reawakened..
The fact of the matter is, asking for a full and 5th season for Kim Possible at this moment seems very unlikely to happen, and nothing has been heard of regarding anything else.
While I myself am still a bit torn in opinion about a 5th season doing an epic ‘Jump The Shark’, I also crave more Team Possible adventures, but that’s probably because I’m a little sad to realize I missed Kim Possible during its heyday and that the franchise is considered to be concluded.
However, it is all not despairing news; if they see how much the world wide fan base wants more Kim Possible, it might rope them into wanting to do more. J They are also freelance (guns for hire writers!), meaning that although they work for Nickelodeon on the Madagascar spin off show, they could also work on new Kim Possible material when a good opportunity arises. They’ve also had at least a years break now to reenergize their creative juices by working on other projects.
It’s my opinion that the Fight For Five should reorganize and reenergize with a new, more realistic goal ultimately culminating in the mere chance of having a new series.
The proposal is of having another Kim Possible movie such as a Sitch In Time set at College, or (as someone on the Internet mentioned before) the summer before College.
Even if the movie does not do well which I doubt, it’d still give the fan base an exciting jolt. J
The original viewing base has also ‘grown up’, with many of the original viewers themselves now into or post High School so the College theme could easily fit in with their television viewing palettes.
Even if a new series is unlikely to come directly to come through ratings alone for the third (or fourth, depending on your episode/movie opinions of Graduation), it would drastically re-awaken the fan base and provide much needed muscle to rebirth the various Kim Possible revival movements.
This would also be a great ‘toe in the water’ for both the fan base at world wide large and Disney themselves; having a possibly lower budget televised movie compared to a full series would be a less risky test to see if the show, and by extension, the entire franchise has any hope of continuing to be a money maker (let’s face it, Disney is a business, they have to survive) and fans will be able to see if the show has finally ‘Jumped the Shark’.
If the televised movie is an insane viewing success like I probably would expect it would be (and if Disney advertised it correctly at the right times), it would most probably force Disney to reconsider its current attitude towards Kim Possible being a finished piece and could continue the franchise in some sort or another, be it more computer games or comics if more televised material isn’t an option.
Disney are sitting upon a closed off gold mine, but this is also a double edged sword; while the prospect of more Team Possible adventures is as great as a free Nacho day to Ron, there’s also the chance they’d over milk the franchise causing irreparable damage; as I mentioned before, this personally feels like a double edged sword to me.
While the raging hunter of having new Kim Possible material burns in me, the fear of disappointment that it could also spoil the show completely by ‘Jumping the Shark’ is also there.
While the idea of this campaign seems pointless and for naught, there’s nothing wrong with passionately trying.
New tactics should also be considered; the mailing of flowers to the Disney CEO containing the yet unformed petition or at least information upon it, fly overs of Disney’s HQ with banners, etc to grab the media’s attention, etc.
A full fifth season seems unlikely to happen at this time, but a new movie hopefully causing a new season to be considered would be a more realistic goal, or, perhaps being a better idea, a sequel series a.k.a. Ben 10, Ben 10: Alien Force and Ben 10: Evolution’s.
Operation: Kimmunication.
Any thoughts about booting this campaign up from the ashes?
What d’ya think?
