The 'new' Dalek designs look like something that came before the 'old' series designs, e.g., a sportsbike devolving/supposedly 'evolving' into something which looks like the first ever moped produced back in the early, (and I mean EARLY) 20th century. I suppose it could be explained from their origins... Word of God said they based the designs of these Daleks from the designs of the Daleks used in the Peter Cushing Movie Daleks. It's likely they're also bigger because both the Doctor and Amy are, in fact, TALLER than the RTD Daleks. ( And to be honest, the only person who is justified in talking down to a Dalek, is probably the Doctor himself.) Maybe the old Daleks (i.e. the ones Davros MAde in The Stolen Earth/Journey's End) will come back in a Imperial vs Renegade Dalek type story, like they did in old-skool episodes. (though I highly doubt it) And, just to give you an example of what the Cushing movie Daleks were like: Here are the theatrical trailers for both movies. (y halo thar, Wilfred Mott... ) Yeah I will agree with you, the plot's with the Dalek's returning is getting a bit stale (it's like the Megman Series... CURSE YOU WILY!! D: )

Although their new design origin is obvious, they still look bloody fugly and out of place. Oh, the Cybermen are coming back this series: rumour has it that the Cybermen from both our universe (see previous 'old' series Cybermen) and the alternate universe (see 'new' series) will meet. Silurians are coming back: Speaking of Cyberdudes, there was supposed to be a film in 1993 or something called 'The Dark Dimension', but it was canned before development got underway. They did a redesign of the 'old' series Cyberman into this: Apparently, the guy behind it was a student of HR Geiger (the guy who designed the Alien), or something. (shrug)
