I've sworn to watch it either way, and I'll hold my judgment until after I've seen it. Given the director however, I've had low expectations for a while now.

I have A similar vow. I've been A fan for like four years, since Book 2. Wish I'd been there from the start, but it gave me the chance to watch the entire first season in A marathon run to catch up. And it kept me awake till the late hours of the night and I was blown away by its epic scope. I can only hope the movie makes fans feel like that, even if the average joe member of the public doesn't.
I can forgive anything but a poorly paced story or crappy acting.

Wow, those reviews are harsh, even by movie review standards... and the movie just came out today! And I was just getting hyped for it from some of the clips I'd seen!
From the trailers and previews, it didn't look too terrible. I even caught a few clips of the acting; they behaved just as the characters in the show did....
The only problem I can sense happening is the Lemony Snicket effect; Nick once again tries to cram too much of the story into one movie, and leaves a cluttered mess in the process. It seems to happen to a lot of their films.
I will be going see it, regardless of what reviews say, though reading all this negativity does make me a tad more apprehensive. But I'll go to the theatre with an open mind, and if it's really that bad (as in, Eragon the movie bad)... well, there's still Toy Story 3 to brighten up my summer movie plans!

I think there may be a bit of bias with the reviewing, but the Facebook page is almost a continuous stream of negativity.
I wonder what Zach Tyler Eisen will think of it?

Funniest comments from Facebook:
- where the bloody hell was suki and avatar roku?!?!?!?! - If you look at the credits they have Suki in there....so apparently she's like the funking Where's Waldo of the movie now.
- Can you imagine what it would have been like if M. Night had done this right??? What a twist! - Somebody said "So the twist was that it sucked? he did that one already."
- I can not believe how dissapointed I am in this movie. My children cried they were so let down! Pull the plug on Shyamalan!!
ahahahah

I'll reserve judgement until I see it... but from what I've heard they made Aang all solemn and serious. That can't be true...

A friend of mine went see it today; she said it kinda sucked, mostly due to the acting and dialogue, which she called bland and downright terrible.
She also said that they changed the way some names are pronounced, but I heard they just changed them to the way they are said in the Asian dub of the show, so this doesn't worry me.
Bad acting can kill A movie, however... but still keeping an open mind!

Watching a VLOG by The Cinema Snob (member of That Guy With the Glasses) talking about this movie, haven't read any good reviews about this movie and was interested to see what he had to say about it, plus I'm more inclined to believe him since he's never seen the series and is generally unbiased in his reviews.
No good words at all, he says he'd rather watch Battlefield Earth than watch this movie again.
BATTLEFIELD EARTH.

... Idk, I liked it. And I'm A huge fan of the show so I had A lot of expectations I knew I shouldn't have, so after I watched it I was just like "Well, of course it wasn't exactly like the show."
It was cheesy at times, but the show does that on it's own and on purpose. It was A whole season crammed into A not-very-long movie... Everything was so rushed and hurried, I was like FFFFF I'M NOT FEELING THE CHARACTER BOND HERE YET. And pronouncing names different was just weird, but not horrible.
Only thing that was annoying was that I did notice every little thing that went different. While it's not bad, it was just always at the back of my head cause it stands out like someone screaming out THAT'S DIFFERENT! right by my head.
It could have been better, but ah well. If I want to watch the original, I'll watch the series I already love. I'm interested in where the rest of this goes if they're able to continue.
Also: serious Aang was... idk. I guess that's what happens when you pronounce A name different! But don't get me wrong, I think the kid looked the part just perfect, and serious Aang can be serious Aang if he wants.

I thought the same, definitely not as bad as the critics are saying it was. It was as awkward as any book to movie transition, with the exception of the Chronicles of Narnia. But yeah, I didn't find this movie anymore cringey than say, the first Harry Potter movie. The only thing I can fault it on is that it was rushed, and that some of the plot devices didn't really take advantage of the cast's range as well as it could have. Noah seems a pretty spot on, albeit emo, Aang

AND WHERE WAS THE GIANT WATER FISH? THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN actually that would have been a lame-ass ending to anyone who hasn't seen the show, LOL. ITS GOOD ON THE SHOW but I don't know if I'd be feelin' it in the movie... Actually wait, now that I think about it, THEY COULD HAVE PULLED OFF A PRETTY WICKED AWESOME GIANT DEMON WATER FISH BEATIN UP ALL THE SHIPS but that sounds costly
