Malmsteen rocks my soul...
I was inspired by him an many others to learn the ways of the Guitar, and I thank them for that.

I'm nowhere near his level! I'm like a kid trying to learn how to play guitar for the first time compared to him!

Agreed! You should see some of his live performance....he's sooooo fast, and clean too! Man, I wish I had at least 1/10 of his guitar skills!

Yeah yeah, Malmsteen, Vai...you've heard one pompous God's gift to music, you've heard them all. That is, unless they're too busy harassing flight attendants to care if you hear them or not. I'll take emotion and raw energy over "look how fast my fingers can go wheeeee!" any f*cking day. Please, never speak of Vai that way. Attake Yngwie all you like, lord knows I do the man's an absolute JERK, but Steve Vai as well as being an awsome guitarist can actually play with emotion and feeling. Playing that good with skill or talents is not enough. The burning passion for the guitar, or any instrument for that matter, and strong emotions can decide whether the player is a true performer or a poseur.
No one can play that good, unless they put their heart and soul into it and through the music they make, they let their emotions run wild with it. That is what you call, a Great Performer.

I'll apologize this time, as that stuff wasn't too bad. No, it's not what I normally listen to, but is it better than rap? Oh yes.
But then again...most things are. It's probably also better than country, whiny punk, and mainstream pop as well...I'll give Vai that. But I don't see myself buying a CD anytime soon.
As far as emotion, I admit, that had it. And I shalnt make the assumption again that every pompous guitar virtuoso is as up his own @$$ as Malmsteen (I've heard he was the rudest anyway). So again, I'm sorry.

Yawn. Okay, we've determined that your brain-to-finger coordination is beyond that of a normal human's. Jimmy, put that in the book for future reference. Now play something entertaining, please. hmmm....something entertaining, like what? playing monotone crap like Rammstein? Though I do enjoy listening to some of their songs like "Du Hast", but its not the kind of songs that I'd give high regards too. Their songs are too simple, even a kid who's trying to learn to play guitar for the first time can play that song in less an hour. Just add distortion and you're done! Heck, it took me 5 minutes to figure out "Du Hast". (the guitar riffs, I mean) If you're judging him on a personal point of view, then yeah I admit that he's a jerk. but then again, most musical genius are! I judge him based on his skills, coz his attitude is none of my concern as it is unrelated to his music. Well, to one each own, I suppose.

Here's the rundown on Malmsteen...
Skill-Awsome, but there are far better (not to say he isn't up there though) Personallity-One of the biggest jerks in rock Compositional skill-Next to nothing Emotion-Very high, lots of emotion...if inflating one's own ego is emotion that is
I respect his skill as a guitarist, everything else, I don't. Waste of a talented player in my eyes.

Don't know but I got problems to listen to music if I know that the musician is a...donkeybrain. Think that's a reason why I avoid these gossip shows...and magazines...and everything similar to this.

I still don't know why "Du Hast" received the attention it did...it was one of the worst songs on Sehnsucht in my opinion, and was much better live. And come on, that was 1998...they've done so much better since then. Their guitar work has gotten much better, as they've put more emphasis on that than techno (which dominated their music from 94-99.) Have you heard anything recent?
And as always, Rammstein have been about effect. Also, not all music legends are jerks. I consider Sascha Konietzko (KMFDM's frontman) to be as influential and skilled a musician as any (KMFDM was formed in the early 80's, and was one of the first to popularize industrial metal)...yet he's also a fantastic person, and the whole band maintains a very close relationship with their fans.

I've listened to some of their songs, but not on any new albums. After listening to the same stuff on different albums, I don't see any reason why I should part myself with my hard earned money to get another album...and effects are there to compliment the music, and not being the main thing. Personally, I feel any band that use way too much effects are mainly to cover their own musical defects. Btw, I didn't say all...I said most. There are still some nice ones out there, but they're a rare breed. As much as I like their music and admire their talent, I don't usually like them as a person. Oh, I'm not a big fan of industrial metal, so I don't know who's KMFDM.
