He should have. Would have been a far better film. Really would have tugged at the heart strings and made a very artsy point about life and death. Yes. I always thought Bambi was a sad movie... the dad's a 12 point buck and gets away clean... [glow=blue,2,300] Really? Then who's father is mounted on my wall?[/glow]

While I remember watching Muffassa getting killed in Lion King in the theaters, it wasn't the saddest death I've seen in a animated series.
For me, the saddest death was in the short lived 'Beast Wars' when DinoBot stormed in and fought back all the Predicon's while knowing he wasn't going to make it...It actually made me cry a little...so sad...

saddest death-Littlefoots mom
Saddest scenes 1.Fox and the Hound- When the old lady had to give Tod up 2.Dumbo-The whole scene where Dumbos mom was rocking him with her trunk in the jail 3.Sprit: Stallion of the Cimmeron-the whole money was sad 4.All Dogs go to Heaven-The end where Charlie was saying Goodbye to RoseMarie 4.Homeward Bound-When Sassy almost died, when shawdow fell in that ditch and the end where you think Shadow wasnt coming home

But this is animated film, not series. Of course, if it was the series thing, then Dinobot totally. Don't get me wrong, but he was a better hero then Optimus. Optimus (yes, I mean Primal) died a lot, only to come back. After a while the sacrifice didn't mean anything.
That's why Dinobot II upstaged him in the series finale.[/glow]

I found Dumbo's seperation from his mother sadder than any of the deaths. I'm not sure why.

I think girls are leaning toward The Land Before Time, and the boys are going for Mufasa. And ye gods, I heard about Judith Barsi's murder a few months ago and was thoroughly shocked. I must be an exception to this. I found Mufasa's death much more traumatizing than Little Foot's mother's. Heck, I don't even think I really cried through the Land Before Time from what I can recall. I had more issues with the T-Rex [ I just wanted that creature to keel over so bad ;D] I was probably in 1st or 2nd grade when that one hit theaters. The Lion King came out in my 7th grade year, and I remember it all too well. I saw it in theaters three times and got the VHS and plushes for my birthday. Plus, I still get teary eyed every time I watch that movie, and I've got it on VHS [my original copy ], DVD, and the sequel on both as well. The effects of the stampede, Simba's discovery of his father gone, his being run off by the hyenas, and to top it off--both the realization made by Mufasa himself of Scar's real intentions and the fact that Simba had to live for years with unjustified guilt thinking he was to blame for what happened---and then learning the truth about who really held the motives to kill his father---they all intensify the magnitude of the moment for me. With little foot's mother, there wasn't the same ill intent in effect for her death, just the usual natural law of 'eat or be eaten', which doesn't add up to the same intensity in my opinion. This thread should definitely have Maude Flanders in it This is going to sound very odd, but----I kind of found it hilarious how she passed from this world. Maybe it's just me Though he wasn't the most likeable character, and not one of my favorites, but it was sad the way Jet died on Avatar. They better not kill of Ty Lee in the new season. Like you--Jet wasn't a favorite, but I also was saddened by his demise Ty lee's cool; I'm hoping thought that Suki didn't suffer a terrible fate. She's one of my favorite non main characters, and I'd have to add her up there as a tragic loss if they decided to write her off the show like that. Plus--I'm a Sokka/Suki fan ;D ~Mara
