All right. I've finally decided to post my first KP fan art here. I've spent two weeks just wondering ''shall I do it, or shall I not?'' I've been really doubtful. It's my first try at a KP character, and because I don't have Photoshop at the moment (though I could always color in Paintshop Pro 9), I felt like trying out traditional coloring instead: Acrylics. I prefer pencil art, such as sketches and doodles, but I need to practise painting more. If I had to color my art digitally, I sure would have used Photoshop, to get the show style-feeling. But nothing digital here. I've used traditional media ever since I can remember, ever since I were able to hold a pencil.
Yes, all these pictures are of Monty (Monty Fiske/Monkey Fist).
He's one of my favorite characters in KP, if not my absolute favorite. I like everything with him, and both sides of him, before and after the Mystical Monkey Power-transformation. I still have my thoughts in the show's past: I love 'Monkey Fist Strikes' for many reasons. I have to admit I like his power-hungry, crazy, evil part monkey-side a little better. It's what he has become, and the most...eh...interesting.
Monty is also very fun to draw, because I find his face very flexible (not just his face!), like elastic rubber or dough. And monkeys are super-expressive. They can both be adorable and scary. I wonder if there are any limits of how further you can pull Monty's face? As a future cartoonist/animator, I spend much time practising poses, expressions, feelings/emotions, difficult angles, characters (both original and fanart) and situations.
Something has to be said about proportion skills. I'm not used to draw humans. I've always been an animal artist. I'm not used to draw monkeys either! So I have some problems with length on various body parts and size comparison. I hope it's not too bad.
DOODLES FOR PRACTICE
First KP character doodles.....
The first KP doodles I've ever done- Monty of course. Some proportions and poses are a bit wrong. Character practice.
Faves?
Row 1: Second from the left.
Row 2: First, third and fourth from the left
Random expression practice
The title says it all.
I also made some boring portraits of Monty, because I couldn't come up with anything funny or spiffy.
MONTY (MONTY FISKE)
Tea
Not so smooth background, some propotions may be wrong and it looked better before I scanned it. I like the leaf in the teacup though.
Monkey Friend
Definitely not the best of the paintings. Same mistakes as above, and it had to be fixed in PP9 (I made it smoother). Any more mistakes? I'm pretty sure there are. Cute pic though.
MONTY (MONKEY FIST)
Just...Monkey Fist
Enough self-criticism. This is my favorite of the paintings. Mainly because of the expression. I wanted him to look like something other than frowning or angry. Red's a common power villain color (as I see it). It symolizes lust and lust for power, power in general, strength, anger, pain and frustration. Just something I've been thinking of lately.
