It's also possible that Ron confused the Flippies with a different show that he had watched as a toddler. That's how I understood it...

I too have been in contact with the writers of the show due to my father and they do not recall speaking to Nicholas and have said it was to inject humor into the show that Ron wore diapers late in life. It is A cartoon and to get your undies bunched up over A joke that was meant to make you laugh at Ron is sad in A way.

Not disagreeing with HAL on that. But he was full of naco on the talking to the "writers".
The episode was written by one person. Brian Swenlin. Yes, Schooley and Mccorkle give it the OK to go through. But it's not multiple people. HAL is a troll who was just trying to make me look bad. Well sorry dude. I just made you look bad.
Ron was telling a joke. People took this line way too seriously. Anybody who watched the show should know that. How many times did Ron lose his pants and he was in Boxers? A lot.

I could believe Ron wearing diapers in his late childhood, it fits into the 'loser' archtype he's supposed to represent.
