Do we even know for sure that the reason they made an episode about pirates was to promote PotC? Couldn't it have just been a coincidence and Disney decided to take advantage of this and air it the day before At World's End came out? It easily could have been a coincidence. It's not like POTC is the pirate monopoly.

It's a Gimmick. Just like Grande Size Me. Remember TPTB have stated Disney said they had to do a health food episode. The probably did the same thing here and said they had to do a pirate episode.

Okay, I take back coincidence. It's a strong word. But sometimes people just want to do a pirate episode. Even though the whole ghost ship thing was oddly familiar.. Okay, completely ignore my last post, folks.

Ok, have seen it now and have to say...it was horribly hard to understand what they were talking about! On the other side, Bonnie looked terrific in the "old" clothes, so did Cap'n Drakken and...well, after the change Kim, too. Problem was for me, besides of the understanding and missing pretty much every joke, that the episode was way too short. It could, no, should've been a two parter. Oh and I had the whole time the Pirates of the Caribbean uhm...feeling, which was really good. Oh and for sure Lazy Town. Do what you want 'cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate! Well, don't got much left to say, at the moment I'd give it a 3/5. Until I see it in German and understand what they were talking about, haha.

Felt like doing a happy dance when Barkin said 'Do you take me for a coxcomb?' and I knew what he meant. Thank you A level Lit. <3
I agree that this ep appears to be a big fat gimmick with dead man's chest coming up and all, but everyone looked so cute in period dress. Kim's pirate outfit and Captain Amelia's costume (Treasure Planet) are really similar. Anyone noticed that?

after watching this ep the second time, i'm still yet to find the right rating for it. good: -they're really cute in ancient clothes -modern kids being taught of the old way (very thoughtful indeed) -funny ron (the horse scene and the credit scene) -a nicer bon-bon (though a lil spoiler for 'homecoming upset') -kick-ass ron with a 'strong point' (surprised me there) -kim in pirate suit and diving suit ? man i feel so perverting -piracy references ('yoho yoho' being the best) bad -drakken 'black eye' didn't impress me much -why couldn't they just pull barkin along? what's the use for his dad? -stupid, irrating perrot -not-really-exciting fight scenes overall, a not-so-bad ep, much predictable from a POTC3-marketing cartoon. still quite entertaining , and i'd like to think they tried to use that as an excuse to talk about 'the old way', which turned out pretty good and deep (refer to this for even better evaluation ronstoppable.proboards89.com/index.cgi?board=genkp&action=display&thread=1179664353)

Finally saw it... I'll give it 4/5, but a very low 4. As has been pointed out, it's quite gimmicky... the problem is, I love PotC, and enjoyed all the piratey jokes in here... besides, historical reenactments are always good. But it was rushed, and it didn't feel quite like a regular KP episode to me. Nice visuals (very nice outfits!), nice one-liners, nice PotC jokes... but it was all about pirates, not about our KP characters.

Thats why I don't hold it against the creators and stuff for making it. They probably had to make this episode like they had to make Grande Size Me. If these are the only bad episodes of the season I say we the fans did pretty well getting a lot of 4 and 5 star episodes.

Man. After watching this again, I'd have to say that Drakken and Shego have reached new levels of goofiness. They're more concerned with wisecracks and bugging each other than they are with doing anything to take over the world. The whole pre-pirate-possession Drakken/Shego dialogues might as well be from a sitcom.

3/5. I watched "Cap'n Drakken" twice. The only way I'll see this one again is by accident. When the new eps start showing again, I plan on taping over it. The absence of obvious K/R moments in an episode don't matter to me. It's the premise this ep is built on that tainted my feelings about the rest of it. I've enjoyed most of this season and so far, there are only two that I would actively avoid watching again. This is one of them. The pirate stuff was entertaining once it got started. It was actually the most entertaining part of the ep. I was expecting it, knew it was possibly a "PoTC III" tie-in, and was willing to go along with that. What I wasn't expecting was a "Colonial House" rip-off homage and for me it seemed to drag on forever, like a bad SNL sketch. This episode also left me wondering if Barkin doesn't have it in for the entire senior class. I mean, in "Trading Faces," he discontinues the cafateria's "senior table" to fund the SKIP program, and now he unilaterally turns the suposedly "fun & sun" senior trip into a week-long ordeal of uncomfortable clothing and hard labor for the students. I don't think it's the whole class, I think it's Ron whom Barkin has it in for this season. The rest of the class are just collateral damage. He even makes it an asignment so that the poor kids can't bail out after they realize he's pulled the old bait-and-switch routine on them. Gawd, I just wanna punch him so bad! That was my reaction exactly. Before this season, I thought Barkin was just a gruff, "tough, but fair" kind of guy. If this episode was meant to drive home the impression that Steve Barkin is a grating, spiteful jerk who sucks the joy out of every-freaking-thing, mission accomplished. I need to ask...but has Barkin become more and more...oh, I don't know...ANNOYING?! Okay, playing as the senior class chaperone is one thing, but to play the roles of the various members of the town...that's just pushing it over the cliff. That, and his grade point dropping system. Clearly the staff of that little in the way of original residents. Historical accuracy indeed *phht!*. That's my only big gripe. Well just to clear things up, that was not the Mr. Barkin we all know. That was his dad playing all those towns people. Even so, Mr. Barkin had to have briefed his dad on the class. Franklin Barkin was annoyance by proxy. First off, something like the "Senior Trip" costs money. It's a week-long trip that sounds very much like Spring Break. Instead, once it's canceled, Barkin turns it into an assignment. I certainly don't see enough seniors standing around to account for 1/3 of a 1000 student school, so only a select few were attending it. That's not fair compelling these few, ostensibly PAYING students to participate. ITA. Presumably the class (more likely their parents) paid for the originally planned class trip and were looking forward to it. To have it taken away on the same day the trip is supposed to start and replaced with something no one would enjoy and essentially blackmailing the class into accepting it? I don't know about you guys, but that crap wouldn't have gone over well at my school. The word mutiny comes to mind. I recall what my senior class was like and we would have called B.S. on that mess. In fact, never mind the students; the parents would have raised hell, quite honestly. Middleton High's senior class must be so used to getting screwed over that they all just go along with anything Barkin says. I know this is a comedy show and I don't exactly expect realism from it, especially not in the action-hero parts, but I do expect at least a little plausibility in the high school/home life parts. Just a touch. For me, this episode is just 22 minutes that I'll never get back again. Whom at Disney should I sue? Amen. If there's a class action suit, I'm in. [/li][li] RON IN THE JACUZZI - NAKED! *squeal!* I mean, you see him cover up his junk when Franklin Barkin sees him, so my imagination was working overtime![/quote] LOL! Ron fangirl that I am, I didn't get the vapors over Ron in the jacuzzi. He still looks (and sounds) very boyish to me and I'm not into that ('Cause he's half my age).

He's a definite "joy sucker" if there ever was one. In one of my fanfics, I described him as having once straightened-out a slinky, just by looking at it. ;D

I continue to disagree and rate this one as excellent.
I guess some people just want to see a postmodern Kim with her hairdryer and laser lipstick pounding on Shego, and any variation or different ideas is heresy! 22 minutes of your lives wasted? Gonna tape over it with the next episode? Good grief! Watch it again. No way can it be that bad.
Steve Barkin: All right, people, listen up! We've been ordered to do a twenty two minute promo for Pirates of the Caribbean three, so you're gonna spend your senior vacation at a historical village.
Kim: Who's going to be the pirate?
Ron: Isn't that Pirates of the Caribbean Aye Aye Aye?
Kim: Probably Drakken. He has a Caribbean lair.
Seriously, I don't care why they did it! Anyway, Pirates and colonials are way more cool than overindulgence in fast food. Could they have done a two-parter or a whole movie based on this sort of theme and made it better? Oh, sure. Kim is bursting at the seams in nearly every episode. But you know, it's probably better to have plot and character stuffed in tight like Futurama than feel kind of stretched out and empty.
