I recently got a new camera, (Canon T1i to be specific), and decided to go out the other night and try some time exposures. A 30-second exposure of the "Christmas Train of Lights" being run on weekends right now by the Niles Canyon Railway in Sunol, California. Note the "Magnetic Flagmen" signals set to either side of the crossing. A 20-second close-up exposure of one of the Flagmen. From this photo it's easy to see how these antique signals earned the nickname "Wig-Wags." Not as dramatic as the motion shots, but this 30-second exposure presents an interesting study of a set of semaphore signals that still stand near the Sunol depot. A westbound Amtrak races through the night and past a set of No. 8 crossing signals. A 30-second exposure shot at F/5 with an ISO setting of 100 and a focal length of 28 millimeters.

I loved this episode, but I mourned his hair so much. So much. I also followed the progression of his hair growth. I think by end of October it was back to 'normal'.

Say what you want about the French, but their military has had some excellent uniforms... (Click for larger pic)

Some units on both sides of the American Civil War used French-style uniforms.
