My weapons of choice are Adobe Premiere and After Effects. The problem with them is unfortunately that they are very expensive.

Windows Movie Maker. Yeah... Lame - But it's Free... How do you make clips and put them together? I can only find an option to divide the whole clip into two.

Got IT! I'll put up images to show examples. Use the time line mode for editing clips. if you're not in this mode, click the show timeline button (SP/Movie Maker 2.6 for Vista). For Vista Movie MAker, click the timelime and select timeline. I'm also using Vista's version of Movie Maker. Shouldn't really make any difference (i hope) Windows Movie Maker (XP/2.6for Windows Vista) | Windows Movie MAker (Vista) | | |
Split Clipsuse the time line to show where you want your clip split Click Clip -> Split Clip Clip should split in 2 Merge Clipsselect the clips you want to merge Click Clip -> Combine (The older one might be merge, not combine... not sure) hope that helps.

For me it depends. So far I have had a lot of luck with the following: Compositing (like weather people on top of weather map): Adobe After Effects and Pinnacle studio If I want special effects without compositing, its usually Ulead DVD Studio 7. To prepare the videos for any of the above programs, I usually do all the cutting and cropping frame size in tmpgenc. Any preparing dealing with cutting position and cropping the movie length is done in Windows Movie Maker. Finally to export to the website, I take the AVI output and convert it to wmv using Windows Movie Maker. Usually it takes me about 3 days to produce a video from start to finish The cruddier ones might take about 6 hours

i use window movie maker too and i have made a video but if i put it on youtube it says that the video file is invalid or something like that Make sure that when you save your finished movie, you don't save it with the "Save Project File As" option. Rather, save it under the "Save Movie File" Saving it as "Save Project File" will save it as just that...a project file which has some weird WMM exstention after it. This option is the one you use when you want to come back to work on your project later. If you want to save your movie as a movie (and upload it to YouTube) you need to "Save Movie File". Anyway, to answer this topic I always have used Windows Movie Maker. WMM isn't so bad when you start going on the WMM forums and saving filters and stuff. I also notice that the more I monkey around with even the default filters and such, the more cool things I figure out how to do. You can create some pretty cool vids with this program!
