Don't know what pushed me to browse through here, but I suppose if any of you were wondering about where I am now then I probably should let you know... Well, I'm almost done with my first full time job in Oxford University and I'll be going back to complete my last studying year. Can't say this experience was...as straighforward as I expected it to be, but I'll spare you the details. I'll be starting my last year soon, but I can't say I have any idea where I'll be going after. But I know my visit to Syria this year(The first in many years) was life changing. So much so that my family and I are considering investing there and are working towards it. We all fell in love with it, and for the first time I could actually call a place my home. I had a history there. And I can see a future there. Hope you're all having the best of times.

OXFORD!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I've missed you, dude! You're never online these days! But then again, neither am I.

Yeah, well, man things have changed, people have changed and new and better opportunities have come up for me. I came back to see how everyone else has been doing...sadly, it looks like there's too few to catch up with.
What's new with you? Where have you been?

Well, I've been in the exact same place I was a few years ago. Only difference is that I'm starting to worry about my future. Y'know, getting into the university you want and wanting to move to your dream location/place and whatever. This forum is dying, no doubt about it. It's nice to see somebody I know from back then revisit.

Oh yeah, I know what that's like. It's a life changing decision, so choose wisely! Have you decided yet what you want to study yet?
Yeah, likewise, it's good to see you again. Well, I wouldn't say the forum is dying. It seems to have become a play area for those who pushed out the rest of the members. It was never about the place man. It was the people who kept it together and made it a friendly place.
But everyone who was ever here now seems to hold a grudge against someone. That's what I've noticed, at least. Which is a shame really, coz this place really was something.

I'm leaning toward pharmacy, but I'm not the greatest student, always missing the cut-off mark by like 1% or so. Play area? Yeah, I kinda got that impression when I saw the colorful new background for the forum and the random comments that are usually centered on jokes or things like "How are you?". I never knew that some members would push others out...guess I was just ignorant. A grudge? Back then, I thought that this was one of the most friendliest forums I've ever been on.

Don't worry, I know exactly what you mean. I'm not gonna say I've been known to come out top of the class. Especially back in high school! Keyword here, 'was'. I think it maybe because a lot of people joined in under a year? I don't know. But I remember quite a few rough periods. I think the biggest hit came when two key moderators left. After that...well...you already mentioned the colorful background! This place just became a mess. I don't think it'll ever recover.

...I miss the past moderators. Why did they leave again?

@darth_Comrade: Not sure if anyone's told you yet, but it's a time-honored tradition there at Oxford Uni to climb the library dome. Preferably without getting caught.

...I miss the past moderators. Why did they leave again? I can't remember. They each had their reasons, I think. I wonder if RD is still hanging around at the Bob and Mark forum he made? @darth_Comrade: Not sure if anyone's told you yet, but it's A time-honored tradition there at Oxford Uni to climb the library dome. Preferably without getting caught. Never heard about that. Well, the last term ended last week and the students finished their exams. The only end of year tradition I noticed here is a good luck flower they give to each other for exams...oh, and the soaking in beer after the last exam. Now we've got North Carolina State University students visiting our college for a conference. And here I was hoping for a quiet summer.

...I miss the past moderators. Why did they leave again? I can't remember. They each had their reasons, I think. It happened just after I joined, so I remember (I didn't do nuth'n, I swear ). Dr. P. had given up his mod powers, but had issues with Serge's more liberal way of doing things, so he jumped ship. RD, however, seemingly wanted to dedicate all his time to the new board he created ('conflict of interest', he called it). That's what he said, anyway. I wonder if RD is still hanging around at the Bob and Mark forum he made? He is. I just recently got a mail stating that he's going to visit 'the birthplace of KP', as he put it, to meet the creative team behind Phineas & Ferb. I think Mr. Dr. P. is still there as well.

....aaand it looks like I'm too late for him. *Makes a note to get back in touch with Luke*
Just a quick update on stuff lately:
I really have no idea how many old buddies still check this place. But I think the least I can do is post a few words on here.
I'm nearing the end of my course now. One more semester and I can finally graduate from this place!
And it's a convenient time too. News about Qatar being awarded a contract to host the 2022 World Cup sounds like the perfect opportunity for me to find a job there. So, that's what I'm aiming for now. It's a long way, yes - but I'm sure investments will be pouring in there throughout the next ten years.
I'm sure many of you remember Tenkan - well, he's already preparing his university applications this year. Chances are he'll end up in the same place I'm in now - and probably living in the same flat too!
As for my social life - which I did not indulge you all on last time, I actually found someone during my visits to Syria earlier this year. She and I clicked right away - probably because she's under the guardianship of my grandmother - who also happened to care for me during my childhood? I don't know...
I've only had the chance to be with her for two weeks during each visit and I've been out of contact with her ever since - but it helps to know that we're due to get engaged next summer. But nothing is yet confirmed.
This is all for now. I'll be sure to keep you all updated sometime during the next year. In the mean time, have a nice Christmas and Happy New Year!

I decided to stop by too. I'm glad that you're doing well, Darth! I too am finishing up my masters degree this next semester at The University at Buffalo. Not such a big name, but its big enough for me. I'm still unsure of if I will be continuing for my PhD in Computer Science but that will be determined in another 2 weeks or so. If anyone does still check here, feel free to email me, facebook me, etc I'm still always near a computer and willing to chat when I'm not busy programming. I stay in touch with a few friends I made here (and at the old SDS) but not nearly as often as I'd like. :/ Good luck in everyone's future endeavors I'll monitor this thread somewhat at least for the next couple of months
