In kids' cartoons, you very rarely see female characters getting hurt, but you see male characters getting hurt lots of times.
When a female character is hurt, it's only mild compared to what a lot of male characters go through, and most of the time they have to be hurt by another female character.
Most of the time, a male hero can't hurt a female villain. He has to either find a way to catch her without hurting her, or get a female sidekick to hurt her for him.
You very rarely see female characters crying, possibly because it would be too upsetting, but when male characters cry it's treated as something comical.

Just the writers being sensitive to kids. Notice that Kim's main opponent is a woman?

I don't think male characters crying is usually seen as comical. In Teen Titans you actually see Starfire and Raven cry more than any of the male characters...in fact I think only Beast boy cries VERY briefly, and it isn't treated as comical.
They probably don't like male characters beatin' on female characters cos it seems kind of unfair. Guys are just stronger and it may come across as abuse, while a female pwnage comes off as 'yay, girl power'...lol, that's what I assume, anyway.

Go watch Japanese anime then. These double-standards do not exist in those shows compare to most American animation.
'Naruto' is a good example. Just that the version we see on Cartoon Network is the editted version. I've seen the uneditted episodes and they pretty much show women getting hurt just a badly as men.

Agreement: I can not answer...but I CAN agree with you human. I see that when Ron cries...or in ANY cartoon when a Male human cries...it's usually funny. Strange.

I'm watching TaleSpin right now, and I'm surprised how many times Rebecca cries.

I actually believe the original Naruto had more male tears than female. *misses original Japanese Naruto Sundays from her college days*

I noticed this in watching KP. I found it so annoying that I'm just waiting for Kim to get hurt (not that I want to see her get hurt) because it's bound to happen.
I think it's just that... guys tend to be more careless. I mean, Home Improvement, look at how careless that guy was. Either that or women know danger more.
I think it's lame though. I mean, really, how many five year olds are gonna cry if Kim Possible gets hurt? (I might cry, but I'm not a five year old). Animation needs to stop protecting little kids.
And it's funny, it's the same way in South Park (YES, I'm aware it's not a kids show). I remember this one ep where Butters' eye gets harmed by Kenny's Japanese weapon. That would NEVER happen to a girl.
As for crying? I mean, we've had one major showing of Kim crying, in Emotion Sickness and another when she was close to tears (AVPC) and only one was her showing real emotion (ES doesn't count as it was that silly moodulator).

Shikamaru too cried after the failed Sasuke-retrieval mission. It just comes to show how much the Japanese do not have such social standards when it comes to how men and women should behave on TV shows.
