Yay, I'm someone's hero! But, I'm serious, age has no bearing what-so-ever on whether or not people fall in love. The only time I feel age should be taken into account is for legal purposes, maturity (physical, mental, and[/b] emotional) is the only real factor. EDIT: to Ninnik Nishukan, I do mean it plays no role. It only complicates things if people who don't have the maturity to accept the fact "love knows no age".[/quote] Ahem...well, I don't want to fight, but I've been in a relationship for almost six years with a guy who's nine years older than me, and IMO, the maturity one needs to have (as well as appreciating the whole love thing for what it is) is the ability to see that there will or might be some problems. The love is very, very important and it's what will make things work despite your problems, but age does matter a bit when it comes to some things. Only some things, though. I'm not disagreeing with you that much, I just think, as someone who's experienced it first-hand, that you might've presented an over-simplified view of things. From my experience, anyway, and from the experience of other couples I know where there's a difference in age. I don't know you, and for all I know, you might've had some of the same experiences as me, but I must say I feel that...yes, it sounds too glossed-over.

I don't see why there should be problems in such a relationship, especially when you're past 20. Of course, if a 14 year old is dating a 18 year old there could be problems, but after both are over 18 there shouldn't be any probs anymore. And before that, there shouldn't be many issues too, especially if it's true love. So, can we drop that topic now? Maybe we should make a own thread about it.

I was just trying to present my own view of things, and I wasn't being impolite about it, either. I guess it could go both ways, huh? Maybe some people won't have any problems despite their age, but I wanted to say that it's not like that for everyone, either. Is it so wrong of me to imply that a relationship with age differences won't necessarily always be trouble-free? I just wanted to give a more nuanced view on things, I wasn't trying to spoil anyone's romantic ideals or anything. Let's get this clear: I do believe in love, and I experience it every day with my boyfriend of nearly six years. Love does conquer a lot. And yes, I was also going to say that how much trouble age differences bring all depends on where these people are in life. A fifteen-year-old dating a twenty-five-year-old (never mind the legal issues) might have a bit more trouble than a twenty-five-year-old dating a thirty-five-year-old, for instance. Look at what I also feel: Ultimately, though, it all comes down to the individual-- people are very different, an eighteen-year-old can sometimes be more mature than a thirty-year-old, for instance. Often, the individual is more important than the age. I appreciate my relationship very much, and I have stopped caring about the age difference long ago, I'm just saying that I thought it felt kind of rash to say that it didn't matter AT ALL. It just seemed a little black-and-white to me, that's all. I wasn't trying to offend anybody. I really didn't think that comment would cause people to get angry. I think you must've misunderstood me.

It's okay that you present your view of the things, but it sounded like that EVERYONE will have problems in a relationship with a big age-gap. I totally agree with you, it could cause problems. But if you're really made for each other, there should be hardly any problems. And if there are some, they shouldn't have an impact on your relationship. So in that way, age differences don't matter.

It's like you guys thought I was painting some catastrophe scenario or something. That's not what I meant. Well, of course every relationship will have its problems, as nothing like that is trouble-free, but hopefully they'll be small problems that don't matter much. When I talked about 'trouble' or 'problems', I didn't mean stuff that would cause instant break-ups, I just meant little disputes, little disagreements or cases where the age difference will make you unable to relate to each other. Just think of all the fun you'll have when he/she says 'Hey, remember that time in 1987, when--" And you go: 'No, I don't, I was three years old at the time." LOL! Of course, that's not really a problem unless you make it one, and I think it's kind of funny, but it does feel slightly weird sometimes when you can't relate to someone like that because you grew up in slightly different times. Not that different, but different enough. Since I'm an eighties nut, though (music, movies, comics etc), it's not really a problem. ;D I wasn't saying that those problems would necessarily make you miserable, I just meant that sometimes you might FEEL the age difference, if you know what I mean, whether it's people commenting on you or just some situation between the two of you where you can't relate to each other. It's true that once you get over a certain age, though, stuff like that matters less and less and less. I got together with my boyfriend when I was 17 (don't worry, the age of consent here is 16 ), and even if I felt comfortable with him, I also felt the age difference because I was still in school and still lived with my parents while he lived in an apartment and was at college. I felt better and better about our relationship (I always felt good about our relationship, I just felt better later) as I got older, especially when I turned 19 and moved out of my parents' house.

Jeez, you should have just made another thread like he said. Anyway, I'm gonna get this thread back on topic if it kills me: the reason Ron might also feel repulsed by Shego being close to his age is a flashback to the STG experience, and how jealous that made him. Or did this episode happen before that? Does anybody know?

If she didn't have it, STG comes first.

What confuses me more is Shego's comment afterward, "So I like the sun." What was that supposed to mean? Being in the sun too often might wrinkle your skin, hence making you look older.

What did she mean when she said "So? I like the sun!" Heh, I asked the same thing. Apparently, if you spend a lot of time in the sun your skin wrinkles, so she may have thought Ron thought she was older because her skin may be wrinkly.

Why would Ron be repulsed by the idea of Shego being close to their age? Maybe he dislikes her so much that he doesn't want to see her as relatable? I'm the same way with people I don't like. That's true, it's sometimes very uncomfortable to find that one has something in common with someone one doesn't like-- especially if they're on the other side of good and evil, LOL! You might have a point there, too.

Well, the reason I wanted to get back on topic was because I didn't want anybody's feelings to get hurt. Yeah, I think Shego sounds older too. If she had like a higher voice, it probably would be easier to think of her as being in her early 20's.
