Honestly, the discussion on Shego’s age probably should have ended with Drakken'sPrincess’s posts, since they’re pretty much irrefutable. Furthermore, I’m sure the discussion has been done before. However….I’ve never read a thorough discussion on the subject and, more importantly, I’m bored. REALLY bored. So, without further ado, I’m throwing in my 2 cents and then some.
As Drakken’sPrincess pointed out, SL has stated that he believes Shego to be in her early twenties as of her conception as a character. It’s conceivable that Zoza’s statement is correct, and that someone on staff once said she was as young as 18, but I sincerely doubt that anyone truly familiar with the character would make her quite that young so I’ll stick with Drakken’sPrincess’s more recent and verifiable source. In the most literal sense, “early twenties” means no older than 24, but in most cases, it would mean 23 or younger. I think most people would refer to 24 as “mid twenties”. So, I believe Shego was 23 at the beginning of the series.
Some would argue that 23 is too young, given what we know about her past, but if we want to get technical (and heck, why not? What else are fan forums for?) that’s not true.
You say: “Shego must have been in Team go for at least a few years.”
I say: Probably true, however if Kim, Ron, the Wego’s (who appear to be at least as young as Kim and Ron), and Yori, among others, are any indication, Shego’s hero career could have easily taken place during her high-school and college years. This would have given her as many as 8 years to gain experience and get sick of the hero gig.
You say: “Shego’s got a college degree and teaching certification!”
I say: True, but as Whisper from the Shadows accurately pointed out, a collage degree and teaching certification that qualifies one to teach basic high school courses can be acquired in 4 years. Even less if one applies themselves. So there’s no reason that Shego couldn’t have earned her degree and become fed up with the hero gig by the time she was 22. She probably bailed on Team Go soon after graduating, once she had her teaching certification to fall back on.
You say: “But she must have been a villain and known Drakken for much longer than just 1 year before the series!”
I say: I disagree. Shego already had all the experience she needed to be a professional thief by the time she left Team Go. Kim herself proved that her hero skills were more than enough to steal the worlds most heavily guarded cookie recipe.
As for Shego’s relationship with Drakken, many people seem to assume that the two must have known each other for quite some time before the series, but again, I disagree. True, at the beginning of the series they do have an established working relationship, and they know each other well enough to be familiar with each other’s mannerisms and capabilities. However, there’s no reason that this relationship couldn’t have developed over a period of, let’s say six months. Given that Kim and Ron had never encountered them before, and that when Wade pulled Shego’s record in Tick Tick Tick there was no recorded affiliation with Dr. D. (at least none that was mentioned) it actually seems unlikely that they had been operating together for very long.
Thus it’s entirely possible that Shego is 23 at the beginning of the series. Maybe even younger.
As for the run of the series itself, it can’t possibly be longer than 4 years. At MOST, the oldest Shego could be, if she was as old as 24 by the beginning of the series, is 28. However, there’s no evidence (that I’m aware of) to support the idea that the series began when Kim was a freshmen. I believe people simply came to this conclusion due to the correlation between the number of seasons and high school years. As Draken’sPrincess pointed out, Kim’s stats in the intro state that she’s a sophomore. Furthermore, we see only 2 school year transitions throughout the series. The first is in A Sitch in Time, the beginning of Kim’s junior year, and the second is the beginning of season 4, Kim’s senior year. So if Kim was already in her sophomore year at the beginning of the series, and the series ends with her senior graduation, then that means that the entire thing took place over a period of less than three years. Probably closer to two and a half. This would make Shego 25 – 26 years old at the end, if she was 23 when the series began.
My guess is that at the end of the series, Shego will be 25 years old. This would make her about 8 years older than Kim and Ron by that point, which I suppose for a high school kid who isn’t even 20 yet, might seem like enough to warrant an “ewwww”.

And I agree with everything in your post! Well reasoned! Yeah, the thing about Shego being 18 was in an early script of Tick Tick Tick, and I remember Steve saying the idea was scrapped. So, it's not that the creators can't make up their minds. It's that they officially changed it so it would make more sense.

I'd say since she finsihed college and spent at least 7 years with Drakken ( In Ron Millionare Drakken and SHego have been having an evil family picnic for 5 years then there are 2 years after that) Shego must be at least 28+ . So to Ron that's alot older.

Taken from a transcript on KP Fan World: This only proves that Drakken himself has been operating for at least 5 years, and that Shego has been with him long enough to go to at least one such picnic.

This gag is based on the idea of company family picnics. He went with his employees, the henchmen. They were, after all, the ones to be disappointed by the picnic’s cancellation.
In fact, Shego being a relatively new employee could well explain how Drakken and his bumbling henchmen could have been operating for several years without ever having earned Kim’s attention. It was a successful heist by Shego that first brought Kim and Drakken into conflict. Perhaps in those years before the series, without Shego, he was simply never successful enough.
Just because the company you work for has had 5 annual family picnics, does not mean that you must have been working there for at least 5 years.

Well, Z-go beat me to it. I was originally thinking about that line, and I was going to post it until I realized that it didn't mean she had been there. Besides TPTB have already said she was early 20's in S1.

I'd always thought of Shego as being his newest employee as well, and your explanation fits perfectly.

...and then of course there's the endless mystery of the blue skin... ...oh well... OMG, don't even start. Any person who knows ANYTHING about cartoons would know that there is usually at least one evil character with blue skin! The blue skin is supposed to be a sign of evil. That's all it really represents. Which is why Drakken wasn't blue when he wasn't evil, and Ron suddenly turned blue when he was evil (in "Bad Boy"). Ther was no "chemical explosion".. wtf? Most likely Steve Loter and the others are using Drakken as a parody to make fun of all the other cartoons with the blue-skinned evil characters. As for Shego's age.. like I said. I still think she's about 28. I just get that vibe. Afterall.. and I know this really doesn't matter, but still... Nicole Sullivan is.. what? 37? She doesn't sound or look like it.. but she is. *shrug*

That wasn't actually something I seriously wondered. I agree. I have, like a lot of people here, already decided that it's just one of those things. Cartoons are stuffed with them. I agree about the age, too. That's the thing-- despite what TPTB say, I also just get the impression that she's older than mid-twenties. No older than 29, though...possibly thirty, at a stretch. It's all about Nicole, really. *nodnod* And that whole school teacher-vibe that Shego's got going for her, too.

That's the thing-- despite what TPTB say, Ya know, they're called TPTB for a reason....they have the power!!! It's their show, they decide what's what, and if they say how old one of their characters is, then that's how old the character is! But, I guess if you wanna believe she's 28 that's fine.....

Just because someone's sarcatic doesn't make them a teenager. :X
