But Simultaneously airing this episode when the POTC 3 is so near is definitely a market ploy.

I voted it was a VIP's idea...
..then I remembered they don't control the airing schedule...

I really think it was to promote Pirates 3. If not than they just made the idea at the same time and didn't know Pirates 3 was going to be out the next week.

I really don't think the episode was made to promote POTC 3. It was perhaps perfect timing they aired the episode prior before POTC 3 premiered. It just happens both are about pirates and people see a link through that.

Has anyone considered it may be the reverse possibility?
I think Cap'n Drakken may have been aired at this time to promote KP by tying it into the POTC universe. I mean, some lines like Kim sensing a change in the wind directly tie it to POTC.
POTC is more popular and more profitable than KP so it would make sense for them to air it around the same time as KP to get the pirates fans awaiting the movie, (which there are many more of than KP fans) to watch KP.

A startling revelation. And one I have not considered. Its plausible and possible.

Corporate mandate from Disney. Another 22 minutes of precious KP burned (like Grande Size Me) Co-Sign. The Truth. Exactly correct. The only two horrible episodes of the season were Corporate Mandates by Disney. "Grande Size Me" and "Cap'N Drakken".

Well if they are trying to promote KP and boost the ratings.I'm all for it.This could be possible.

it's not the only show that was used as a promotion for POTC3. for the last 2 weeks i may have watched half a dozen other cartons featuring pirates, even those not from DC (Cartoon Network's Kids Next Door, for exp). but then, the idea of using POTC3 to promote KP does make sense, so i don't know, maybe we should ask the VIPS in future chat sessions

I kinda liked Cap'n Drakken. I liked their senior trip going to a living-history town. (At least they didn't start dissing the Amish or something like that.) Also, pirates are fun, so I'm sure the staff wanted to do it once. However, I don't think it was made just so it could promote POTC.
This, of course, doesn't mean that the airing date isn't a bit too coincidental. There is some definite synergy going on here, no doubt.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the obvious reasoning:
Because Drakken as a pirate captain sounded like a funny pitch.

Well I'm not sure if it was REALLY because of POTC, because Brian Swenlin once said that it was even unsure if they could put any POTC spoof/homage in it, because of legal reasons! I think this pretty much proves that the episode was not a mandate from Disney. Has anyone considered it may be the reverse possibility? I think Cap'n Drakken may have been aired at this time to promote KP by tying it into the POTC universe. I mean, some lines like Kim sensing a change in the wind directly tie it to POTC. Never thought of that! I agree. You're right, PotC is much more popular than shows on Disney Channel, so a DC show is the one that needs promoting, not PotC! I mean, PotC fans could see the commercial with the ghost ship and the voice-over saying "A pirate's curse...." and then Drakken lookin' like Jack Sparrow and say "Oh wow! I gotta see that!"

We thought it was a funny idea. It wasn't a corporate initiative like Grande Size Me (which Ashley can't watch even though she gave it a 5/5... Hmmmm...)
Obviously we were riffing on POTC, but only in the sense that they are hit movies that have made pirates cool again. Mark and I once briefly worked on a POTC animated movie 10 years ago that was never made, so we already had the research.

Total promotion...get everyone to start thinking pirates, then 2 and 2 fall into place. "Oh..right! PIRATES!...Pirates of the Caribbean...of course!"

Because many people like pirates and the KP writers were catering to the pirate taste?
