So you want to have a custom Avatar and signature picture do you?
Well you’ve come to the right place!
Avatar = That little picture on the left below your name.
Signature = Images and text that will always appear below all your posts.
Using an image saved on your computer as a custom avatar.
What’s that? You already have a picture saved from the internet that you want to use as an avatar? Well, that's a good start.
To set any picture as your avatar, you need to host it on the internet. No, it won’t cost any money; you can host images using websites such as www.imageshack.us or www.photobucket.com. When you host an image with either of these websites, you will get a link that will look something like this:
img305.imageshack.us/img305/3872/maryn27bw.jpg
All you need to do now is click on ‘profile’ above and then click ‘modify profile’. Then copy the link you got into this box:
Avatar URL = Paste the link to your picture here
Avatar height and width = If you know the height and width of your picture then you can put them here and then your picture will be displayed correctly. Just make sure it’s no bigger than 100x100.
If you’re not sure about this then just leave it as it is.
Personal text = Type in a short message here and it will be displayed underneath your avatar.
Now click ‘modify profile’ at the bottom of the page and you now have a custom avatar! ;D
OR...
If you don't want to bother with all of that...
You can choose from a variety of pre-made avatars if you wish by selecting from the available list.
If you have a picture you believe would be a splendid addition, please let Captain Serge Stiles know, and it will be added (if appropriate)!

Using an image saved on your computer in your signature.
Now you know how to put a picture from your computer on the internet and use it as your avatar, it shouldn’t be that hard to go that little bit further and put a picture from your computer in your signature.
**Important note**
DON’T MAKE YOUR SIGNATURE TOO BIG! On this forum, you have to keep your signature smaller than this:
Stick to the guideline or you’ll be getting a call from one of our moderators!
OK, start by hosting a picture as before and you’ll get another link. This time though, when you paste the link into the ‘signature’ box, you need to add ‘img’ tags to make the link show as a picture.
This just means putting
[ img ] before the link and
[ /img ] after the link, both without the spaces.
It should look like this:
You can put any text above or below your picture; just make sure it doesn’t go over the size limit!
Want to customize your signature a bit more? Use some of the other BBS tags to format your text and pictures:
I hope this has helped you, see you around the forum,
