I wonder if that Peach Cobbler has a "Special Ingredient?" Stephen Colbert asked the same thing: "What's in it? Shredded tax forms and hash?!"

Wow. Once again, thanks so much for all the welcoming welcomey goodness. I feel very--what's the word?--welcome. Even though, for reals, folks, I had very little to do with KP. Only about 11-minutes worth. And even then, things changed after my last draft, so I'll be just as surprised as you guys when I see it on the air! Eh, it happens. On the 1st season of Duel Masters, the other story editor and I ended up sooo very heavily rewriting 9 or so scripts after the writers' last drafts that they were completely unrecognizable on the air to the original writers. Heck, one we turned into a musical! Nothing against the original writers. Hasbro just decided after-the-fact that they wanted totally different stuff, but the writers' last contractual drafts were over. We could have asked the writers to write their scripts again, and rewrite them again, and rewrite them yet again--but for free. Which... no. We really couldn't. And moments like this are one of the reasons story editors and staff writers get the big bucks. (Cough, cough! Hack! Hwarf! Ahem. Where was I again? Oh, yeah...) No harm, no foul. It's all good. Don't cry for me, Argentina. I will survive.Roped nothing! Other than TROOPS, KP is the project I'm most proud to be associated with in my entire career! ("With which I am most proud to be associated?" Bad grammar makes the baby Jesus cry.) I was a huge fan of the show from the comfort of my own home before the big cancellation drama... and to have it comeback and be invited to be a part of it? Even if for 11 minutes? Only the! coolest! thing! ever! is all. A little hungry. Since it was over lunch. Seriously? Flabbergasted. The first I heard that the show was coming back from the dead was literally as I was being handed a writers' packet and asked to pitch. So double whammy, getting hit with twice the big news at the same time, both as a professional writer and as a squeeing fangirl. I've written for A LOT of different properties o'er the years. (Still do!) But other than TROOPS, (and The Simpsons, tangentially), KP is my most favorite-est project I've ever been privileged to be a part of. ("Of which I've ever been privileged to be a part?" ) Yeah, yeah, I know in publicity clips, Hollywood-y people always say that. 'Cause they're promoting their show and kissing up. But I swear! Honest and for true. Oh and, unrelated, I now know why nobody has been able to find any Ben & Jerry's "Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream" ice cream anywhere in the greater LA area: my boyfriend bought a whole freezer full of it for my birthday! So if you see me this summer at Comic Con and I'm 400 pounds, you'll know why.

That's so cool. You're a writer of the show and you're a KP fan. For the win! High five!
That's so sweet of your boyfriend to like buy a ton of ice cream. I so want to try that ice cream now. I'm sure it's here in C.C. Texas somewhere. Heehee.
I think you're my second favorite KP writer, just because of your personality. Brian Swenny is number one in my heart. Hehe.

Yeah, baybee! Up high! ;DBe forewarned: It's reeeally sweet. And, uh, substantial. Like jam-packed with chunks of dessert-y goodness. Or should I say sweet chunks of freedom! (Wait. Ew...) But it's more like eating a sundae than just a spoonful of regular ice cream. A dab'll do ya. (Says the woman with a whole freezer full. No exaggeration. I have no room for other food!)Woo with a side of hoo! Aw. shuckin's. Thanks. ;D Tom Hart's no slouch though. Tom's the best. We love Tom. (Give us more work, Tom.) See what I did there? Subliminal programming in case he's lurking. He'll be powerless to resist.Curse you, Brian Swenlin! Someday I shall meet you in battle and defeat you! There can be only one....

LOL.
Really sweet? Mmmm... yum... I am so gonna get that. I like fattening food.
And I thought Grande Size Me would have an impact. Well, it did for a week, so that counts for something.
LOL. I bet Tom will so be powerless to resist. You should do some Jedi mind tricks, that's always cool.
Whenever I encounter an automatic sliding door, I do a Jedi hand move to pretend I opened the door with my mind.
When you found out you were gonna write a KP episode, did you do a happy dance or anything?

Wait, so you mean the writers don't actually get to see the finished product until it airs on television?

Yep. Unless they're on staff as a writer (and even then no guarantees) or a writer/producer. Sucks to be a writer, don't it? Er, I mean it's a wondrous and magical experience, always and in all ways! ;D Yeah. In related news, I just proofread-for-typos a pdf of the Gilmore Girls' book I contributed to. ("To which I contributed." Stupid brainwashing by honors English classes!) So at least we writers -- sometimes!--get to see our books before they're published. But not all the time.

Is a writer paid on every script they deliver for a show?

So, did you get to write for KP as a result of knowing Tom Hart?
How much research did you have to do in order to come up with a script?
Was the script completely your idea or were you given a storyboard/outline and had to fill in the blanks?

Hey, Charlotte. Haven't heard from you about the new time for the lunch, and it's tomorrow.
Check the lunch thread. It's been moved up 1/2 an hour.

He's the one who invited me--and other established animation writers he knew--to pitch, yes.No research. It's not that kind of a show. (Unlike, say, Tutenstein. I learned so much about ancient Egypt writing those scripts. Educational shows are educational for the writers too!) But back to KP. I was already a huge fan and totally familiar with the show, so I just read through the writers' packet to see what changes were planned for the new season, and pitched away!None of the original ideas I pitched made the cut. (Sob!) But I was offered the chance to write the outline & script for one of two germs-of-an-idea they had developed internally. I chose their "Nursery Crimes" one. Good questions! ETA: Sorry for the multiple posts in a row. (That'd so get me kicked off TWoP! ) I just remembered how to edit.
