Insects and small verman are a continuing threat to local crops and the food supply of the world. However, current chemical pesticides are damaging to the environment. Without using pesticides, describe how you would protect farm crops. Without using pesticides, eh? Ok. First you round up all of the homeless people you can find. Then pay them minimum wage using the money that would have been used to purchase pesticides. Their new job is to stand out in the fields and jump up and down while clapping their hands. That’s right, they’ll crush larger pests underfoot and smash insects using their hands. Here’s an artist’s representation: In addition to solving the problem, this solution will also solve an economic and social problem! (Bonus points if the homeless people happen to be beavers.) (Please note, I don't actually advocate this. It's such a bad idea even if it does answer the question.)

Well, he did answer the question... Yeah, but it's not a correct or feasible answer.

Well, he did answer the question... Yeah, but it's not a correct or feasible answer. I absolutely hate to defend it, but I disagree. It answered the question and didn't even use organic pesticides. Now... as to the social problems this would cause. That's an F. But even as such, it's deserving of at least a D.

Bah! My answer was at least B quality, if not A.
I didn't even mention "organic" pesticides as an option.

Alison: For the insects, I would use a jar trap. You can buy these in stores, but they're fairly easy to make yourself. Simply put some fruit, sugar, honey, and what have you in a large jar. Fill it maybe a quarter of the way. Then you screw the lid on and punch a small hole in it. Lubricate the inside of a small segment of PVC pipe with vaseline and secure it in the hole. Insects fly in and they never get out. Simply hang several of these on posts throughout the crops.
Secondly, I would sprinkle the crops with a small amount of limestone powder, which would dehydrate the insects. Not too much though, as you don't want the soil pH to get too high.
As for the vermin, I would use very large sticky traps. Put a roof over them so the elements don't damage them too much, and bait them so the vermin are really attracted.

What if they jumped up and down with the *aim* to get rid of ground pests.

I'd use humane traps to catch 'vermin,' such as rats, mice, and raccoons, and relocate them if possible. There are also devices you can bury that emit very high-frequency noises that discourage small mammals. You can also sprinkle crystallized coyote urine around to scare away larger mammalian intruders. As for the insects, releasing native predatory insects such as ladybugs and praying mantids has proven useful for control of annoying critters. There are also pheramone-laden bags that serve as traps for destructive bugs like Japanese beetles.

Hmm... Good answers TP and sleepyferret.
In fact, I don't think I have to worry too much about this generation anymore.
Well, except for Sederien. That was just plain wrong, even if it technically addressed the question for which I must give it credit.

I gave him some credit. I didn't give him an F-. You realize there is no F- in Middleton High, right? It's D+, D, D-, F. Period. End of conversation.

Drakken, you already receive pleasure from the very title of your role, you have more than enough money from other ventures, and we don't have the budget for it. So... no. Not as such. *shrugs* Just wondering.
