not to be the dissenting voice here... but I read this and came to the conclusion that they were staring for the entirely different and equally plausible reason that they knew kim and larry were related. After all, larry is rather proud of his cousin in his appearances. Which of course made them all the more incredulous given the scene they put on. After all, Kim IS the celeb of the town... so her relatives would be minor celebs by extension, especially after larry's mentioned encounter with dementor.
Still, maybe I am over-thinking it, but that's the angle I see it from.
