Why did Disney cancel Kim Possible? (4/15/05)
The Disney television cartoon show Kim Possible was canceled, despite excellent ratings, for the most basic of reasons: accounting. Sixty-five shows had been produced, and that was considered enough to keep the show in syndication. "The shows are all pretty much the same," said one company accountant who has no children and doesn't watch much TV. "Kids like bright colors and movement. They get that from reruns just as much as they get it from new shows, so why spend the money?"
The budget released by Kim Possible's cancellation will be used to create a new cartoon show, Princess Powers. It will feature Disney's popular princess characters after they have been exposed to gamma-ray radiation and gain incredible super powers. Look for Snowstorm White, Cinderblastella, the BelleBeast, Wrathful Mermaid, and Slaying Beauty (and associated merchandise) beginning in August. -from DisneyLies

65 is old news but I've actually never heard of Princess Powers until now. If it was an actual product which was scrapped and not just some fabrication, then my god, they threw out a really good premise. EDIT: I looked into the source, and I don't really think you have to go much further than the front page to figure out that DisneyLies gives out information of the same quality as any rumor mill, a schizophrenic guy off the street, or a 24 hour News Network. I suspected as much given the name (come on! LIES is right 'effin there!) but I thought I'd check it out anyway. "Your source for lies, distortions, untruths, half truths, urban legends, rumors, and just plain made-up stuff about Walt Disney, Disneyland Resort, and Disney films." Point proven. Yeah, they're right on the 65 episode policy, but as I stated earlier that's not new news. That's what the whole season four hoopla was about. But everyone knows that most rumors have a distant basis in truth and that the best lies have a little bit of truth mixed in with them to keep them believable. On another note- DAMMIT! NOW I KNOW PRINCESS POWERS IS FAKE! BAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW! My innocence and expectations have been shattered! GOODBYE, CRUEL INTERNETS!! The End of Nightspade's Innocence and Expectations.

Cancelling Kim Possible for whatever reason by Disney was just a stupid thing to do. Why cancel a show that had so much more potential to be even better then it ever was.
There was still so much story un-left to tell and even a possible spin-off later on like they did with Family Guy, aka American Dad and unfortunately the Cleveland Show.
Disney missed the boat as usual and just went ahead and cancelled Kim Possible without thinking or realizing the truth potential this show had and still has. With a fanbase worldwide Disney just shows that they have no direction whatsoever when you cancel a show that could have made them even more money then they could ever imagine.

Princess powers! That's funny! Funny Awesome! I can see it now. A re-imagining of five of Disney's most famous princesses, set in a whole new world of fantasy and adventure. The land of Distasia was ruled by five separate kingdoms, each with a long history of war, peace, treaty, and betrayal. As it came to pass, an era of peace settled on the land. The people prospered. They grew content. But soon... some grew greedy. The Sorcerer Phallus N. V., an unheard of practitioner of the blackest of magic, was one of those who saw the time of peace as what most saw it for: an opportunity for personal gain. However, his dreams were beyond those of any mere farmer or merchant, and his methods were most foul. Raising an army of ghouls, trolls, vengeful spirits, and down-trodden citizens, he committed a brutal regicide of the royal monarchies. Only the family of Oceania, the Kingdom of western seas, survived. Sixteen years later, the four kingdoms are in a brutal war with allies and enemies on all sides, within and without. Phallus commands a dark nation of heinous beasts and repressed slaves from the ruined capital of Pumpkia. Though his forces are vast, there exist those still able to resist his might. The four surviving nations individually cannot hope to withstand the onslaught of Phallus S. V.'s dark forces. But not only can they not unite together, but the three nations who suffered the regicide cannot even bring their own people together. But a light exists. Rumors persist that some how, miraculously, survivours of the royal families may exist. Though only one each. Oceania sends Princess Ariel, a fierce warrior in the kingdom's tradition of battle trained leaders, on a mission to find if there is any truth to these rumors. She soon finds, to her dismay, that even her skills alone will not be enough to unlock the truth behind the four royals. She will need to journey to all of the lands, and assemble a party of adventures whom she can trust and rely upon in this quest. The characters are: Snow "Storm" White: An enchantress with a strong knack for calling upon the ice and snow of the frozen north to aid her in battle. Or just to scrap a living as a street performer. Poverty has stricken her home kingdom ever since Phallus' dastardly attack. In ensuing battles, all magic schools have been razed and most practicioners of magic capable of tutoring her to further her abilities have either joined 'resistance groups' (though, often these groups do more harm than good) or have become hermits in hiding. Despite her circumstances, she is very out going and eager to see more of the world. With her unrefined but still potent magic, cheerful outlook, and street smarts, she's sure to lead the band to the missing royals. Or to a pastry shop. The girl seriously can't get over bread. "Cinders" Ella: Ella, that is the only thing this girl has to in her possession, her name. Frequently outcast for her ability to call on flame, she has spent much of her time in hiding fearing others who may fear her. She doesn't talk much, she never knew anyone with whom to share words with, and words just generally don't seem to like her. But she yearns to find out more about who she is and why she exists. After all, doesn't every breathing thing have a purpose? She aids the group in the hope that their journey will lead her down the path to her past. Belle "The Beast": A smart girl with a dangerous curse cast sometime during Phallus' first attack. Whenever she is stricken with rage or grief she is forcibly transformed into a fierce beast. In this form she exhibits none of the intelligence of her true form, displaying only the brutal savagery of a feral beast looking for a meal. She seeks a life free from the awful curse, until then she will settle for just learning how to control it. But how can you keep a level head when Snow won't shut up about which kingdom has the best bakeries? Princess Ariel, "The Wrathful Mermaid": The crown princess of Oceania, a kingdom of merpeople with a ruling family that enforces a traditionally isolationist policy and practices fierce combat training under the sea to better prepare for any invasion. The policy of isolationism was broken, with much dismay among the nobility and common folk of the kingdom, with the threat of Phallus as his navies increase their attacks on the kingdom. Ariel was chosen as the best candidate for an ambassador to bring the other kingdoms together. However, to walk on land, Oceanian magi must cast a powerful, but fortunately easily reversible, spell on a merperson. She has traded her tail for legs, but at the cost of a terrible burning sensation whenever she contacts water and an eternal thirst. Harden from her years of training to lead her country, she is more than capable of dealing with thirst and the trials ahead. But can she deal with Ella's reclusive, almost ironically icy nature, or Aurora's insistent whining? Aurora "The Slaying Beauty": Aurora was arranged to marry a renowned dragon slayer. She didn't hate the man, and actually found him rather charming. So when he fell to a group of Internet trolls, she was devastated. Not knowing anything beyond the life of a simple seamstress, she took up her beloved's sword and vowed to end Phallus once and for all. But the realities of the world clash horribly with what she has experienced in her relatively sheltered life. Can she cope with the madness of a world at war? Fin: A powerful sage and sorcerer trapped in the body of a golden finch do to a powerful spell. He guides the girls on their journey and dispenses wise advise. And yes, he's a cutesy little animal/sagely mentor thrown in with a group of cliches. Why? Because f*ck it, I like cute animals, that's why. I can easily see this series getting green lit for like two seasons. Minimum. OKAY! Now, where's my money at Disney?

This article was a joke written in 2005. It was a sarcastic lampoon of Disney policies.
Such as, cancelling hit shows because of a set episode cap. And producing unbelievably bad cartoons to replace them.
The snipe about executives being childless ogres who think kids are idiots is completely false. But it skillfully focuses the anger many felt at the time.
Over at Mission Kim Possible we got a jolly laugh at this one. It offered some lighhearted humor to our daily struggle.
I watched "Ill Suited" again tonight. The episode still gives me a warm feeling inside, knowing that I helped win Kim back.

OKAY! Now, where's my money at Disney? You'll be splitting it with me because they'll be paying me for my rewrites. ;D Jeesh! I hate when you people get me started Snow 'Storm' White's kingdom was the first to fall to the enemy. She witnessed both the fall of her husband's castle and his death before she fled into forest. This time, though, she wasn't running away from someone, but to someone. She found the Dwarves cottage in ashes, but didn't have time to be afraid for them as she was snatched from behind and muffled as an enemy patrol invaded the glen hunting for her. When the patrol moved on, she looked up to see that her her rescuers were Grumpy and Doc. They spirited her back to the mine where they and the others had holed up since the invasion. Snow White was finally able to collapse in grief over her dead husband and the dwarves could do nothing for her but grieve with her. A day or two later, Snow White rose from her bedroll with a certain look in her eye- something the dwarves had never seen. She said they should go to her father's castle. The dwarves agreed as the place had been abandoned since the death of her stepmother. They managed to dodge the patrols long enough to find their way to the castle and the dwarves used their abilities as miners to help Snow White find her stepmother's secret chambers. As Snow White begins to delve into her stepmother's ways, Grumpy raises his objections to her intentions to study witchcraft. She tells him she doesn't care. Her husband is dead and her homeland is in ruins. She will use whatever means she can find to strike back. Seeing both the determination in her eyes and the truth in her words, Grumpy agrees. For the next two seasons, Snow White is cloistered with her stepmother's magical books while the dwarves learn the ways of combat and quietly raid the enemy camps while helping refugees flee to safer places. Come winter, Snow White feels prepared to strike back. Using her new power, she calls down a blizzard of epic proportions, burying the invaders in ice and snow and earning herself the nickname of 'Snowstorm'. Even the enemy's undead minions are hampered by her efforts. The wizard Phallus himself, (You'll never get that name past Disney standards and practices department ) is forced to put aside his efforts elsewhere and come face her. Even with her gathered power, she proves to be no match for him. She and the dwarves are forced to flee, scattering to the four winds until the day when they will be strong enough to battle him. Cinderella witnessed her husband's death much the same as Snow White did. She escaped in her disguise as a kitchen maid and sought out her fairy godmother. She found her engaged in magical combat with Phallus himself. Her Fairy Godmother proved to be his equal and drove him off but not before being mortally wounded. Her last action before dying in her arms, was to gift the last of her power to Cinderella. Consumed by her grief and rage, Cinderella walked calmly out into the street while everything around her burst into flame. Some of the invaders immediately caught site of her and attacked only to explode. Cinderella began to wander the streets with a wall of fire at her back incinerating everything in her path. Any other invaders she caught sight of that day would meet a fiery end while any townsfolk she met, she would help escape. It was they who gave her the nickname 'Cinders'. The capital city burned down while both the invaders and the inhabitants fled in opposite directions and Cinderella was never seen again by either side. The invaders abandoned the capitol city as a total loss and the inhabitants never went back. Any of the invading armies foolish enough to return die in flaming agony, their last sight a pair of burning eyes. Any refugees or civilians who pass through or close to the ruined city may just meet a quiet young lady named Ella whose face is always smeared with ash. Belle's tale was different from that of her fellows. She did not wait for death in her husbands castle, she mounted her horse Phillipe and charged out into the battle to find her husband and bring him home. She found him staggering through the smoke, badly wounded. When she reached him, he was suddenly possessed of a strength much like that of his bestial self. He seized her in his arms and forced her face into his wounded shoulder. "Drink!" He hissed, "Drink from me! You must drink, my love!" When he was satisfied she had swallowed some of his blood, he kissed her fiercely, tasting his blood on her lips. "You will live," he hissed in her ear, "I couldn't save our friends, but I could save you." With that he collapsed and died in her arms and she collapsed weeping onto his corpse. She had no idea how long they lay there before the enemy surrounded them. The next thing Belle remembered was standing in the same place, her clothes shredded but not as badly shredded as the enemy solders that lay strewn about her like some wild animals had torn them apart. Unfortunately she was still standing next to her husband's corpse and she again collapsed in grief. It was some time before she found the strength to dig a shallow grave under a nearby tree and lay him to rest forever. She began to make her way back to the castle. She found her horse but for some reason it feared her and ran in panic. She found the castle in flames and the inhabitants fled. The only person she was able to find was her father. Belle found him being held prisoner by some of the invading soldiers. She again remembered nothing afterwards but seeing them with her father and then waking up with torn clothes and dead soldiers all around her. It was her father who told her how she had turned into a beast. Since then, Belle has continually put herself in harms way, allowing the beast to tear the invaders apart where she can. She looks upon it as she and her husband striking back at the enemy. Like Snow White, Ariel, too, saw the death of her husband at the hands of enemy soldiers and like Snow White, she also fled the castle for her former home. She arrived to see Oceana besieged by giant sea beasts and her father engaged in personal combat with the wizard Phallus himself. (You really need to change that name. ;D) Triton is badly wounded but managed to pierce Phallus' breathing spell, forcing the wizard's retreat. Ariel rushed to her father's side trying to bind his wounds. Her father siezed her wrist and placed the trident of Oceana in her hand whispering 'Avenge me' in her ear before dieing. Now with her father's trident in her hand and her husband clothes on her back, 'The Wrathful Mermaid' haunts the coastline of Distasia at the head of a ship full of angry sailors who served with distinction under the late Prince Eric, her husband. She strikes at the enemy wherever she can, Sinking their ships, burning their port cities, and aiding the fleeing refugees. Unbeknownst even to her own crew, Ariel gave birth to her and Eric's only child, a girl she named Melody, six months after the death of her father. She gave the baby to her sisters to raise who have led the people of Oceana away from the war to safety. Princess Aurora's arranged marriage to the dragon slaying Prince Phillip did indeed seem to be a happy one, for he was quite charming. (good start! ) So she was as frightened as any wife would be when he led the royal armies against the invader. When the invading armies surrounded the castle. Aurora, thought they must have gotten around her husband and his army and so took it upon herself to sneak out a secret passage, find him, and tell him what was happening. She was predictably devastated when she found him dead in a clearing surrounded by several dead trolls. Like all the other princesses, she collapsed weeping upon him for a time, then for some reason, touched his sword. This sword, stained with his own blood, was the enchanted sword of truth given him by Aurora's three fairy guardians. Suddenly, Aurora knew everything her husband had known about fighting. She knew the techniques he had used to slay the dragon, how to use an enemies strengths against him, and how to inspire followers to great feats of daring. Before she knew it, she had donned her husband's armor, taken up his sword and sheild, mounted the horse she had ridden there, and charged into battle, sparing one last sad look at her husbands corpse. Both invader and castle defender were astounded to see this slip of a girl crash into the enemy ranks cutting down soldiers left and right with her golden hair whipping in the wind. The defenders lowered the drawbridge and took advantage of the enemy's distraction to launch a successful counterattack. They managed to reach Aurora before the sheer weight of numbers brought her down as they had her husband. Their might spent, the invaders were force to retreat and the legend of Aurora "The Slaying Beauty" was born. After retrieving her husbands corpse from the battlefield as well as any other countymen's they could find, Aurora and the kingdom's generals set about defending the land. More than one of them has remarked that if they didn't know better, they'd think they were talking to Phillip. Aurora is the only one who knows that they are. She is often seen caressing her husbands sword. She does this just to feel his life in it. She quietly fears she'll never be as good as he was. She has after all, lived a very sheltered life. She has no idea what the madness of a world a war looks like. (good hook! ;D) Leave Fin exactly as he is. He's just fine and I assure you you'll never love little animals as much as the people at Disney do. Well, that's my rewrite. That'll teach you people to get me started. If Disney calls, tell them I want a piece of the merchandising too.

I'm going to come right out and say that although I am trying to judge objectively between the rewrite and what I originally conceived, I will not deny that I have a preference for my own, but I am still open to criticism myself. That in mind, charming rewrite, but I have a few criticisms.
It seems that now all the girls have the same, rather tired, motive: Revenge. And they all are avenging the same person, their husbands. Yes, yes, revenge is a great motivator that's all the more better when it's personal, but it's also been done many times over. One needs only to look to a Western, a Sci-Fi flick, Action movie, Shakespeare, or Greek play to see it.
I also feel that it deviates too far from my original vision. The fact that four of the girls don't know who they are was supposed to be an important plot point and would also allow for fantastic character development. Snow would go from a smart but air headed girl into someone who could be relied upon in times of need, Ella would gradually open up and be more sociable, Belle would learn emotional restraint and Aurora would go from a scared and confused girl into someone who knows how to use a sword. In the rewrite, they've all already been developed, meaning that the original symbolism of the journey is lost.
Also, Phallus N. V.'s name remains unchanged. Period. I rather like the pun.

Well you'd STILL never push it past standards and practices. And you're right about them all having the same motive but that's largely because their stories all ended the same way in the movies: they all got married and lived happily ever after. The only way to give the princesses back their exclusive spotlights is to remove the husbands, and that cannot happen without leaving a giant gaping hole in their lives. I disagree that the characters are coming to you fully developed, however. They're just on more sturdy footing, some of them. Others are far more lost. Cinderella, for example, has literally been split into two people. Cinders is little more than blind rage triggered by the presence of the enemy. Ella is so damaged by her grief that she can't even remember her entire name. That's why she wanders the ruined city aimlessly. She's overwhelmed by the death and destruction she's witnessed. I actually intended to include this next part in my original rewrite but decided to cut it out for reasons of brevity: the only thing keeping her from starving or dieing of thirst are her little mouse friends who scavenge the ruins bringing her things to eat. Only when she actually wanders into the places where her husband or godmother died does a shred of the old Cinderella emerge and then only to relive the horror of her family's death. Sorry I started in again. Remember what I said about getting me started. Belle is currently sure of her actions, but the minute someone she doesn't want hurt becomes collateral damage, her more enlightened nature will leave her consumed with fear of her bestial self. Snow is at her wits end. She gave it her best shot and it wasn't near enough. What's she supposed to do now? She has no idea where to go from here. She's stymied- probably wind up working as a scullery maid again. Aurora, yes, still has her husband after a fashion, and they are a capable team, but your original hook is still in place: what happens when they are overwhelmed? What happens when they BOTH panic in battle? Ariel has an entire kingom to defend. If she gets too lost in her revenge and forgets that, it WILL cost her her sisters and her daughter. She has yet to learn that lesson. So you see there's still a long way for these girls to go and the friends they have left are depending on them to save their lives Still you're right about yours being better in some ways. The cardinal problem with your is that Disney would never find the guts to use it. These are some of their primary breadwinning animated characters and they don't DARE risk alienating that audience. (though, god knows, their frighteningly GOOD at it.) It IS, however, something you COULD take to another cartoon studio- one that doesn't have an established franchise of princess movies. All fairy tales are public domain so there'd be no legal issues. I know we both did this on a lark, but we both did great work. It be cool if we could sell it.
