The Fannie Awards are given every year over at Fanfiction.net and cover all the Kim Possible fan fiction posted there over the previous years.
Categories for 2014 Fannies Awards:
Best KP Style Name: This category will be for the best name done in the KP style. Kim Possible had been wordplay for Impossible, Adrena Lynn had been wordplay for Adrenaline, and Camille Leon had been a wordplay for Chameleon. Nominees for this category would be KP style names that you liked.
Best Original Character: This category will be for the best original character that wasn't in the Kim Possible TV series/movies.
Best Minor Character: This is a category for characters that were minor characters in the series (though they WERE in the series and aren't original characters) that are impressively featured in a fanfic.
Best Villain: This is a category for who the best villain in a fanfic was. Can be original or a character who was in the show.
Best Songfic: Best songfic in the year.
Best AU Story: An Alternate Universe Story, just to clarify for any to whom this isn't familiar terminology, is a story that is an alternate universe compared to the original show universe. If a story COULD fit in the original universe - for example, it takes place after the series and doesn't require anything stated or shown in the series to change to work, it's NOT an AU story. If it's a different set of circumstances - whether as simple as Kim and Ron not becoming friends as kids or as complex as being in a steampunk world - that's an AU.
Best Crossover/Fusion: Best example of a story that crosses over Kim Possible with something else (or fuses them). Please note that some of these don't show up in the normal Kim Possible section and you may need to click "Kim Possible Crossovers" near the top of the screen of the KP FFNet section to find some of them.
Best Alternate Pairing: Best example of a story where someone in the story is paired up romantically with someone other than who the show put them with. This could be Kim dating someone other than anybody you saw her actually dating in the show, Kim's mother with someone other than Kim's father, Felix with someone other than Zita... We think you get the idea. Please note that Kim/Shego pairings have their own category below since they're represented by so many stories in the fandom (so that other alternate pairings have a chance in this category).
Best KiGo Story: Best story pairing Kim and Shego romantically.
Best Kim/Ron Story: Best story pairing Kim and Ron romantically.
Best Comedy Story: Best funny story.
Best Romance Story: Best story exhibiting or focusing on romance.
Best Friendship Story: This is for stories where you see a great example of friendship WITHOUT it being about romance. So many categories here focus on romance and shipping when there are great stories that don't romantically pair Kim and Ron but show their friendship, or show a great friendship exhibited between any other characters without it being romance. These stories deserve a chance in the limelight.
Best Action/Adventure Story: Best Action/Adventure story, basically.
Best Drama Story: Best story with dramatic content.
Best Unlikely/Unique Story: (A combination of the two that were used last year) The story should be told in a way that you buy it, but basically a story that shows a situation incredibly unlikely to happen in the show, or so unique that it might even make say "Umm… what?" (But yet you still enjoyed it).
Best One-Shot Overall: This is for stories that are one-shot. One chapter. If there's some story that has a second chapter only because of an author's note explaining something bad FFNet had done to the published version of the story or something, we'll deal with that on a case by case basis.
Best Novel-Sized Story: Best story of novel-like size. For our purposes we'll consider stories that are 40,000 or more words eligible. We'll be using FFNet's word count for this, but in borderline cases if your word processor said something was 40,000 words but it ends up less according to FFNet's count, we'll handle that on a case by case basis. Thanks to TRS for suggesting this size cutoff and for SHADO Commander for providing standard word counts in years past.
Best Short Story: Best story of 7,500 or less words. Please note that there's a separate one-shot category. This category is good for fairly short stories that might still be a couple chapters long. Like with novels, we'll go off FFNet's word count, but in borderline cases we'll figure out if something is eligible on a case by case basis. Thanks to TRS for suggesting this and for SHADO Commander for providing standard word counts in years past.
Best Series Overall: This refers to a series of stories. If someone has put more than one story in a 'shared' universe where the stories link up. Past examples include MrDrP's Epic Sitch series, waveform's Fast Track series, Pinky Jo Curlytail's Well-Suited series, and others.
Best Writing Team: Team of two or more people. Had to have done something in 2014, though, since these awards are for work in 2014.
Best Young Author: Eligible folks are 19 years old or younger. We know the Fannies will overall take a while, so let's say that if you were 19 when writing the material in 2014 that got you nominated here it counts. It was 19 in past years and people were mostly asking what it was rather than overwhelmingly saying it should be different.
Best New Author: Someone who started writing KP fics in 2014.
Best Single Line: Revived from the 2nd Annual Fannies... Though it may be hard to appreciate these lines out of context, this category is an attempt to recognize really great writing. Did someone come up with an awesome bit of Shego snark? Did MrDrP make a really hilarious joke in a fic? Did the author/narrator themselves describe something in a way that was awesome? Basically, what's a line in a story that you thought was awesome? Because of the difficulties with this category, we'd like to say that when a line is getting nominated, the nominator can provide some context to help people decide, but only the actual single line from the story can be the nominee.
Best Reviewer: To quote Neo the Saiyan Angel who suggested this two years ago: "Kind of the Fannie's equivalent of Miss Congeniality. Could be for sheer number of reviews, could be for exceptionally insightful reviews, whatever people want." We'll see how we roll this category based on who people nominate when the time comes.
CPNeb Kimmunity Award: This would be for the most helpful or active author. They would be someone noticeably influential to other authors and social with the Kimmunity. Think in terms of CPNeb, who was this while he was around, and also folks like Commander Argus.
Kimmunity Achievement Award: This was suggested by ShadowDancer01, though we've titled it "Kimmunity Achievement Award" instead of "Lifetime Achievement Award" because that feels odd for something about a show no older than 12 years at the moment. Unlike all other awards this year, this isn't just looking at contributions in 2014 but for a body of consistently good work and activity representing a few years' time. It's a good way to remember authors who may not have published something in 2014 but should be recognized, especially if they've missed out on winning Fannies before due to coming in second, split votes, etc. The award would also help current members of the Kimmunity connect with past members who may no longer be active and let those past members know that they are not forgotten.
