Most people forget that Star Wars isn't even based on the future.

Hold on a minute, are you guys telling me that there WILL be a KOTOR III? Or are you referring to the Force Unleashed?
Man, if it weren't for those games Star Wars EU wouldn't be as exciting as it is now. Heck, it even inspired me to write Kim Fett, that's KP as a Mandalorian set during the KOTOR era.
I also love star wars fanfilms, if you guys watch them...at one point for over three months I watched almost every decent star wars fanfilm on utube!

As of now there is no official word out for a Knights of the Old Republic III.
But its STRONGLY hinted by most major gaming magazines. Lucasarts and Bioware or Obsidian or whoever is going to work on it knows the value of the KOTOR name.
They would be stupid not to put out a third KOTOR game.

It's also rumored in forums, but those should quickly be dismissed (especially when the person posting's name is DisneySucks...okay, so maybe that's not a good reason to dismiss it, but it's part of my reasoning ^_-)
A third KOTOR would be so awesome...
And HBO's been showing Star Wars movies the past two days or so...^_^ I'm happy.

Well, I've never played KOTOR II (beat the first one, though), but I know some stuff about the KOTOR II storyline. And I hope they retcon it (Though they probably won't). Why? Well, - First and foremost, "it doesn't matter if Revan chose the light side or the dark side." Excuse me, but yes it does. The two endings of the original KOTOR contradict each other: in the light side ending, the Republic inflicts a crippling, even devestating, blow on the Sith, knocking out their primary weapons production facility and decapitating its leadership (even more so if you wiped out the Sith Academy on Korriban); in the dark side ending, the Republic's fate is sealed - there's nothing that could prevent Revan from taking over the galaxy, or at least smashing the Republic back to a few core worlds.
- Moreover, since the light side ending is the "canon" one, there's no way that the Sith could be an any position to, in five years, "destroy the entire Jedi Order - except for one." The only one who managed to accomplish a feat of Jedi-killing on that kind of scale was Palpatine, and he had the Republic itself under his control. Yes, the Sith Empire (or whatever remnants remained of it) might be able to reverse some of its losses, even managed to stage a decent offensive against the Republic, but kill all the Jedi "except for one"? Don't think so.
- KOTOR II's "revelations" about the battle of Malachor V. Given that Revan's tactical skills were what made him stand out during the war, the have him fight the final battle with a superweapon seems kind of a cheap shot. And Revan destroying most of the Republic fleet? I thought it was his armada of Mandalorian-kicking soldiers and ships that eventually formed the nucleus of the Sith fleet! (OK, you might be able to call be a hypocrite, given that I'm not bashing the Star Forge, but that was more of a factory than a weapon per se...)
- Revan leaving Bastila. I know, canon-wise, it was a minor point, but I liked the story, and didn't want to see Revan choose "non-attachment" over Bastila. (Don't you just love Bastila getting flustered! ;D )
Ah, that's enough for now. Still, I'd love for Revan and Bastila to get together and KOTOR III be about their child. That reminds me of a KP/SW fusion fanfic idea I had, one that involved, among other things, Kim getting her own suit of Mandalorian armor. And one last thought: Han Solo on how the Empire in its prime would have dealt with the Vong invasion:

Why do you think the Rebelion destroyed the Empire for the most part? The Empire underestimated their enemies. A mistake done alot in history, the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, Hitler with the Soviet Winter, hell even the Vikings when they return to loot Paris again, like, 10k of vikings got their Arses handed to em by about 200 French soldiers in a castle.

Nope, there won't be a KOTOR III. From what I heard, no company would like do it or something. LucasArts is now focusing on it's other products. Personally, I'm more interested in Battlefront III. True ... The Empire was arrogant, but without it they could be the most powerful thing in the Galaxy. The Empire Reborn (The Clone Palpy era) and the Thrawn Campaign showed the true power of the Emprie without it's arrogance or whatsoever. The New Republic almost fell ... but they manage to defeat the Empire by luck and long planning. But still, in my SW Fanfic, the Empire pwns. *plays Imperial March Theme on Guitar*

Lucasarts also had a tendency of saying it was not going to continue the Rogue Squadron series and look where it turned out.
