Well, I finally saw the movie and I really didn't thought it was so great. Not a bomb but not a sure fire hit either. A 4 to me.
Now I have to give hats off to great special effects and stuff. Now of these days, with CGI, they can make things come to life that was not possible even 20 years ago. Makes me wonder if they could do a live Robotech given how well done they did Transformers.
Yet for all the wow factor, the story itself is the meat of what makes or breaks a movie IMO, and the plot was cliche at times.
Like why bother to go undercover when the Decepicons can just smash through the Pentagon, get the information about they needed, blast through the Hoover Dam, and get the Cube and rescue Megatron. Nope. Just too darn stupid to do that.
Also the Secretary of Defence was just too quickly to accept Sam's words the Autobots were on the humans' side, and they all fought in the middle of busy LA for the Cube? And after all that, I pretty much guessed what would happen. If the Cube can make cybertronic life, it can take it, thus Sam, by 'accident', kills Megatron. Like whoopie-do-do. Real anti-climax there and that touching speech Prime gave for the fallen Hotshot (or was that Jazz?) was cliche after all they went through. I was rolling my eyes at the stupid hands-on-hips pose the Autobot's weapons specialist was giving during Prime's mini-speech for their fallen comrade.
So yeah, I thought it was okay, just I found the story cliche at times and some of the gags fall flat. IMO, the whole 'hiding the robots from the parents' stuff went too long.
So as I said, 4 out of 5. It was okay, just the plot was just cliche at times.

That movie was incredible, I'm pretty sure I've seen Transformers before but I cannot recall. Anyway, the plot and characters were awesome, the special effects were incredible and the music was also fantasticly moving! ;D It sure does have the potential for a sequel, but it could still work on its own. Optimus Prime is a great character, he's got to be my favourite. Watching it once is not enough for me, I would really like to see it a few more times!!! 5/5 - Definitely worth seeing over and over!

[glow=blue,2,300]Time to start placing bets. In the sequel, will Starscream take the reigns of Decepticon rule? Or will Galvatron make his big screen debut?[/glow]

I don't think it was 'perfect', it had a lot of unnecessary crudeness. Not that I'm a prude at all. But Bumblebee 'peeing' on that guy? And all that mating/masturbation talk lol. It's like, it tried to be funny - but it wasn't. So yeah, think the movie's a 4/5 for me.

[glow=blue,2,300]I found the mating/masturbation thing hilarious myself.
I especially enjoyed the part where Sam's dad was giving him props. And Megatron's line to Jazz as he killed him was funny. Not lol funny, but inward laugh funny.[/glow]

The film had the same problem (which isn't really a problem) that also "The 5th Element" had, back in the days: It's a comedy (and not even unintentional!), but the marketing deparment tries to sell it as a serious Sci-Fi-epic. The other problem (which is a much bigger problem) is that the writers tried to do the fans of the cartoon a favor and put in some quotes from back then. Unfortunately was the dialogue of the show unbelievable cheesy and now, 20 years later, lines like "Today, one shall stand, one shall fall" doesn't sound very smarter. Apart from that it was a great movie! (Of course with some of the minor actionmovie-holes)

No, I liked those lines...it made the battle sound dramatic- which otherwise would've been just another fight on the battlefield.
But I agree with the crudeness comment when it came to masturbating- sure it was funny, but without it would've probably been better.

Yes!!!!! Totally agree! I'm new to the whole Transformers franchise. When it started, I thought it was going to be all Terminator 3. Especially that helicopter scene. Then they started to get 'funny' afterward. Like that scorpion Transformer and the Indian Call Center, I didn't know whether I should laugh or cower in fear.

I'm just sorry they didn't name him on screen. Plus, 'his programming is more insect then machine?' Cool, but I don't get were he got the bugs from.
Frenzy should have come out of Soundwave's chest though, instead of Barricade's. Would have been more true to G1. Of course, then Frenzy would have to be a cassette tape and Soundwave would have been a tape deck that turns into a 15 ft tall robot, but still...[/glow]

This movie rocked! I really really loved it. I am something of a Transfan on the quiet ... I have over 100 Beast Wars Transformers ..... and this hit all the right buttons for me .. but the best bit, that actually made me do a little air punch ... the dialogue in teh final fight from Optimus and Megatron - taken right out of the other Transformers the Movie. Aw man .... made my year!
