Who is a fan of the classic 1950's sitcom the Honeymooners? I am a big fan of the show, and it might be the most influential sitcom of all time.
So many classic bits that I have seen on many sitcoms and cartoons over the years, I seen the Honeymooners first. The coin flip joke, "Heads I win, tails you lose" for example. And in that same episode, Ed turned on the tv, and there was gun fire, and Ralph thought there was really gun fire, I have seen that done many times also.
The sleepwalker episode, so much of the sleepwalking jokes have redone many times, as recentely as on the Suite Life Of Zack and Cody.

I enjoy the show a great deal, and still pop in the original DVD set of the eps from time to time. It's held up very well with time, and the chemistry between the cast is timeless.

And it resonates in other ways as well...
Not many people realize this, but "The Flintstones" was an animated spoof/spinoff of "The Honeymooners."

It seems to have leaked into a lot of popular culture...
RALPH KRAMDENBOT: One of these days, Alice. Bang! Zoom! Straight to the moon!
LEELA: Wow, I never realised the first astronauts were so fat!
FRY: That's not an astronaut, it's a TV comedian. And he was just using space travel as a metaphor for beating his wife.

Well, I don't know if that's really obscure, given that it was mentioned in a fairly famous Simpsons episode, and it's pretty evident if you've seen each show. It's definitely a character-for-character knock-off of the Honeymooners, but a very good one.

The heads I win tails you lose bit is so great, that it will still be done hundreds of years from now, long after the show is forgoten.
I know the Flintstones is basicly a Honeymooner ripoff, at least the pre Pebbles epsiodes, I think most people know that. But did you know that Yogi Bear is basicly a ripoff of the Ed Norton character? And I saw the heads I win, tails you lose bit on an episode of Scooby Doo. So Hanna Barbara loved to use the Honeymooners for its shows.
The differences between the Honeymooners and the Flintstones are
1) Barney is not like Norton, because they already had Yogi Bear.
2) Fred Flintstones is more of political correct G rated version of Ralph Karamdem. When they both angry, Ralph goes to more of another level of anger, that Fred Flintstone would never even come close, because it is geared towards more of a family audience.
3) The spousal arguements. Fred and Wilma's arguement are very one sided, with only Fred yelling and Wilma always maintaining a level head. While Alice would yell right back at Ralph, and Alice has done many fat jokes at Raplh expense, while on the Flintstone, Wilma never did a fat joke.

Omigosh! I can't believe I've actually found people who heard of the show.
I'm a HUGE FAN! Me and my dad (or should I say my dad and I? Stupid grammar!) have the DVD boxset of all classic 39 episodes and we play them all the time. It was such a great show! Jackie Gleason was an amazing actor.

I know of it as it pops up a lot in movies and tv shows as reference, but not sure I ever saw it here Blighty. Didnt they do a Moonlighting ep based on it?
