Additional thanks from me, because for a while I mysteriously lost DVD playback on my computer, and by downloading these codecs, I now have it back.

Codecs are required for anything that has multimedia video or audio Usually they are installed automatically, but in some cases, they aren't

I've always had to install extra codecs... or use VLC but that can be awkward...
Gspot usually helps though

Tisk Tisk, Wallace... trying to alleviate the problem with a codec pack instead of offering a specailized solution. What ever happened to only downloading the ones you need? Yeah I know, I've installed them, but it still doesn't work? Is there anything else I have to do? Try going here and download GSpot. On that same page, there is a "quick start" guide link to help you along. Essentially, what the program will do is tell you what codec the file needs and if you have it installed. If it says you're missing a codec, tell us which one, and we can find it for you.

What ever happened to only downloading the ones you need? Wouldn't that just mean that some time in the future this problem could come up again? Hah, and I was just about to recommend Gspot too ^^

Wouldn't that just mean that some time in the future this problem could come up again? Well, that's just how I'd do it. I'm one that would rather download codecs as they're needed, rather than taking the easy way out and stuffing my computer with a pack that has codecs I may never use and could cause conflicts with others.

I've used the K-Lite codec pack for over a year, it's a godsend. And it's not like it takes up too much room. I'd rather have an 'all-in-one' Swiss army knife solution.
