oookayy..thank you Obi-wan.
Hurricane Dean is now a cat 4 storm. It should be cat 5 by this time tomorrow and its only going to get stronger. The big question is where is it going to go. The models have all shifted SOUTH and the Yucatan is even more in danger. Stay tuned.

The models have all shifted SOUTH and the Yucatan is even more in danger. Stay tuned. Still, I'm going to keep an eye on it. The only thing that I'm really concerned about is that it seems to make landfall around Wednesday or Thursday and I start school then. I'd hate to miss school because of a hurricane. And my school is an island and it could easily be wiped out by a large storm. The school's website has already began to make precautions known, and they have hurricane plans. I wouldn't put it past them to cancel classes on the first day of school. I just hope it doesn't come to that. I tend to get impatient about things. But I'll prolly know by the end of sunday as to that. But, I gotta say guys... I'm a bit scared. I'm looking at the weather channel's map as to what it looks like right now, and the eye is like... the perfect eye. It's so well defined. I'm just really grateful you guys are all thinking about me.

Do you have anywhere to take cover just in case, Ash? Basement etc?

I'd figure that be a question. Basement? We don't have that here. I'm about 17 minutes inland from Ward Island (where TAMUCC). I figure that if we were to evac, we would probably go North to Odem, TX. It's a small town of like... It's about of Corpus. We've got family and friends there. We'd probably stay with my Aunt Carolyn, because she's like safe like that. When Hurricane Brett came in in '99, we stayed at her house, even though she lived in the city in those days. But, we could go to San Antonio, but that would be a refuge for everyone and their mama. SA would be the best best as it's 2 hours inland. I found a map online that has the Corpus Christi area so I pulled that up and I edited it to give you all a good idea. I put a little "I am here" thing in the general area where I'm in. And it looks like Dean will be a Cat 5 by the end of the day. P.S. Rockport is where Erin made landfall a few days ago. And the Nueces River area inland areas are still REALLY REALLY flooded after a ton of rain we had in July.

Aircraft Reconnisance just reported a pressure of 926mb and flight level winds of 145 knots. Dean is currently a strong cat 4 hurricane. Some dry air got intrenched into the outer core overnight and that slowed the intensification process. That appears to be working its way out of the storm now and Dean is growing again. I expect another significant increase report at the 5pm update.
At the moment, best guess is its going to hit the Yucatan. After that its Mexico or Texas. Depends on the ridge to the north and the Mid-Level Low near Florida.

I agree.
I'll be suprised if it's not a Cat 5 by 5 pm today.

Brother, just what we need...Katrina's brother. Ash, I truly hope you find some shelter or get away ASAP. I just know you'll make it though. You're a Texan and can get through a lot of tough stuff.

I'm just hoping it misses us or goes somewhere else. Not that anywhere else deserves Dean.

I live safely in the heart of Texas so I've never had to worry about Hurricanes, but Tornado's that's another story I can still remember the Jarrell Tornado, that one passed far two close to where I live.
That was pretty scary but I can't imagine what it must be like to have a Hurricane bearing down on you.
So good luck Ashley I'll be praying for you.

I'm hoping that this thing misses Texas completely...since I'm in Houston and we already dealt with Tropical Strom Erin.
I'm watching this closely but I'm still taking care everyday issues.
But if hits Cat. 5, and Dean may just be big enough to cover much of the southern portions of the state of Texas.
Houston is a bit further inland but with all the bayous, the Ship Channel, and the ground already soaked from Erin flooding is still a very big issue.

Yeah, the entire gulf coast, if not most of the state, has had too much rain over the last month or so. The Nueces River has flooded some areas in the countryside.
I'm watching it carefully, but I won't tomorrow as I'm going out of town for the day (to the middle of Texas).

well, here in northern NJ, we rarely get any hurricanes or tornadoes, the tv always says watch out for a tornado watch. but when i go to florida for vacation, the day is full of hurricanes on and off.
i just hope Ashley doesn't get as badly hit as any other cat 4 hurricane. your probaly better off evacating to some where safer. best of luck Ashley!
i'll try to look out carefully for it too.

Just noticed the Computer Model page I put up on Page 1 is updating with every new computer run. Cool!!
Well, if you look at the latest run, you will see that ALL the models are now calling for a Yucatan landfall and then an exit back into the gulf for another landfall in Mexico. Texas looks like its safe....for now. *PHEW*
