Might want to keep an eye on this one. Especially if you live near TEXAS and near the gulf. These are the computer models showing the forecasted projection of where this bad boy might end up. The "sweet spot" or "model consensus" is referred to as the average of all the models. You draw a line down the middle. If you did that on this map, you'd end up right about....CORPUS CHRISTI, TX Now, I'm sure that's going to freak out AshleyBenlove. She lives there. Long term projections are rarely that perfect, so in all liklihood, it won't hit Corpus, but it could come really close. If you live near there, I'd check your hurricane supply closet (plywood for windows, LOTS of water, canned goods, batteries, etc.) and maybe hit the store today before things get scary next week. Oh, one other note.....here's the projected strength of Dean if it does in fact miss the Yucatan and hit Texas: 153 knots That means sustained winds of 175mph with gusts to 220mph. (category 5) Let me try and put that in prospective.... Katrina was a category 3 hurricane (100 knots) at landfall. Andrew (Homestead, FL) was a cat 5 at 140 knots. We could be talking about the strongest hurricane to ever exist. Might want to stay tuned for updates.

She did say this Excuse me... I need to beat up a few hurricanes. Hopefully she's well prepared for this sort of thing... image if there was a real hurricane over here, we'd be like headless chickens

Here on rs.net? Or here in Britain? God, one Category 5 hurricane would probably wipe out the whole country ;D

Wow, I'm suddenly very glad I live in Scandinavia.
Crossing my fingers for a nice hurricane, just... once.

Well, Corpus Christi is preparing. We started like... doing preparations when Erin came through slightly north of us. But, I must say, I'm hoping that Dean does what most Hurricanes do... they miss us. We've been pretty lucky for about 30 some odd years. Katrina and Rita both could have hit us. Rita's projected path was in the general area of Corpus Christi. I remember being inconsolably upset when there was a short time while it was Category 5.
We do not need any more rain. It rained all of July.
We've got plently of bottled water at my house though. Probably over 100 bottles. The city recently had a water boil scandal. There was e.coli or something like that in the water. Not cool.
But, yeah, I'm pretty sorta freaked out about it. I just hope we end up having our knickers in a knot over nothing.

That's actually milobars.
I remember my classmates freaking out over Rita when the Pressure was getting lowered or whatever.
I gotta say that I'm actually pretty touched that you guys are sort of worried about me.
I mean, when Rita was supposed to hit us, we plyed up the windows with plywood (my room was pitch black for DAYS at night), school was canceled, and we had a mandatory evac of the city made by the city bigwigs (days before it even was gonna make landfall, not the smartest move). I was home for about a week, watching the news, on edge. I think the town was pretty empty for a few days. I stayed in town.

Though terribly frightening... does also sound kinda exciting in a way. Maybe thats just me living somewhere where nothing ever happens

Well I'm glad that you guys are prepared and stuff in Corpus Christi.
Don't you get any hurricanes, Fox? We get them in NY but not in a serious way like in the south.

Yeah, when Erin was supposed to make landfall here (and then missed us instead), I was so excited.
I'm fine with hurricanes as long as they are category one or two. Brett in '99 made landfall just south of us, but we still got a lot of rain. The last major hurricanes to hit us was Celia in '70 and Allen in '80. My family braved/survived Celia. They retreated north for Allen.
I just hate the idea of what the stores will look like if Dean is coming our way. DEAR GOD that will be awful.

You left tornadoes out of your list but I'll take a stab in the dark and guess that was deliberate and not an oversite

My thoughts go out to those Texans. Here in eastern NC we have seen one category 3, three category 2, and one category 1 storm. All in the last decade or so. We had two storm back to back in two of those years. One of those was Fran which killed 40 people here in NC and destory thousands of homes. Here in my home county nearly 200 homes were destroyed. I stood at my front door and watched the storage building owned my neighbor across the street been thrown about 30 feet into the air and ripped apart.
Watch your head Ashley, will be thinking about you. The Captain
