Okay I have some art coming up, but I have to search for a scanner that is compatible with Windows Vista. I hate Vista. Anyway, that's not the point of this thread. I've received quite a few messages from people asking me how I do my art, my techniques, how I practice, my tools etc etc. I think I'm going to answer questions here instead so I don't have to keep repeating myself in those messages. So feel free to ask your questions here and I'll try to answer them on time

Wow, an arty ask me thread Well, I think I have everything in photoshop down - except textures! They annoy the frell out of me. How the heck do you make yours so awesome?

OK, I'll bite. From the beginning. What is your set up? Obviously you use Photoshop or some such similar software to complete your drawings, but what I am asking about is the very beginning. It seems like you hand sketch your ideas to a certain point and then finish them on the computer. Do you have a KP sketch book? Do you have a specific place you can sit down to doodle? How important are references when you draw, either the Disney model sheets or screen caps?

How the heck do you make yours so awesome? It depends on what type of texture. If I am looking for a blotchy wall texture, I use Filter > Artistic > Sponge. I learnt that from CarbonF. For example, the blue wall in 'Camille Hate Club' I did. Sometimes you want straight parallel lines for tables and such. This I learnt from ~wattsta on DA. As for the vertical and horizontal textures, that came by accident...
Select your area for texture then go to Filter>Texture>Grain... and select either Horizontal or Vertical grain type. Mess around with the Intensity and Contrast until you get something you like. I used a low intensity and fairly low contrast. Other than that I don't use any other texture, most of them are improvised by using a paint brush. OK, I'll bite. From the beginning. Usually I can work anywhere as long as it's comfortable. I have a table lamp and a clipboard to hold down my paper while I draw. I don't own any of those fancy-type professional artists' gear like SFToon or Lionheartcartoon. 2. I own a 0.5 mechanical pencil a rubber and a ruler. Why a ruler? I actually measure what I draw. That is how I keep Kp in proportion. How I decide, is that Kp is usually 4 heads tall. I use the ruler to measure the head size and decide on the arm and leg length etc... 3. I don't have a sketchbook specifically, I just take out A4 photocopy paper to draw on. Having 1 sheet of paper is easier to manipulate and scan. 4. References are very important, but I don't use them as often as I did before. I usually only use them now if I can't decide what Kp will look like from a certain angle or if I'm drawing a character I haven't tried before eg. Bonnie, etc. I used to use all sorts of references I can find. I have the whole collection of Kp model sheets, screencaps, episodes and art from other fanartists which I can have a look at. This is so that I am never in doubt on what Kp will look like with a certain expression. In my early days of drawing Kp, I took SonicElectronic's summertime pic and printed it out. I then traced it and then began to have a closer look at it. I traced because I can de-construct pictures. So after I trace a picture, I will measure the dimensions and make a skeleton and begin working my way backwards erasing stuff as I go until I have a stick figure. Then I would try to recreate the picture again myself. It's like dismantling a car to see how the pieces fit together and then putting it back again. Presently, I start my work with a circle and stick figure pose before I go ahead with anything else. I don't rely on model sheets as much as I did back then, but I still use them. Do you use a uniform palette for the characters, or adjust for the needs of the picture? What do you mean by that? Do I use a palette? I don't get it :/

It really depends on how big you want the picture to be. I measure depending on how big I draw her head. Kim is usually 4 heads tall (including her head currently) and it also includes her hair height. Her arms are long enough to reach her hips an crotch, usually a little longer. As a loose scale, her head is 1 head size, her body is 1 head length, her legs are 2 head lengths. All together 4 head lengths. In this case, I was practicing drawing proportion with her less than 4 heads tall. Although if you see SFToon's work he uses both photshop and Adobe Illustrator to give a better effect.

mm now that would be cool ;D hope you do have time how you can make your drawings seen so perfectly from scanner is ( I mean the basic pencil lineature, it is so clear)there somekind of magic trick for that ?is your scanner so good or sharpen / desharpen thing or what ? or you just make print linear so dark with your pencil? wows for the picture ! that actually helps alot with body propotions and your pen tutorial is awesome also. hope the cruel Da wont delete your amazing work anymore !
