Well I've been reading some fics recently and I figured I should ask this. Me personally I've always seen them as a part of the UN so I was wondering about the rest of you. Should be intersting to see the results.

I would guess the UN. I highly doubt that the American government would have something like G.J.

Ezbok, you live in New Jersey, that's not far from New York City, so you probably seen the UN, right?
BTW, Happy Birthday Ezbok.

Probably work independently from any organization.

Independent works well too.
In my Fics, I have the UN acting in an advisory capacity (technically, GJ doesn't have to follow their policies).

The UN... why else would they use the word "global"? Didn't we as Americans once call ourselves the Global Policeman? I remember something like that from my history classes.

MAybe the headquarters of GJ are in the US but this organization is likely to have several ties wit hboth the US goverment and the UN. But this is an independent organization, which propably would have its origins in some resolution by the UN counsil or something.

GJ must be independent from the UN because they actually do useful things.

Well, I always thought it's an independent organization that answers to the UN and all governments that financially supports it. Why else it have the title 'Global Justice'?
And no, I don't think GJ would accept finacial money say from dictatorship countries. It would go against its ethetical code to fight for 'justice' if they accept money from countries that don't really support justice anyway.

I always saw GJ as an independent organization, not really part of the US government or military structure and not really a part of the UN either. It always stuck me as more of a Dr. Director creation than a US or UN bureaucracy.
After all GJ's main oppositional organization is run by Dr. Director's brother. No way would the US government let her stay in control in those circumstances. (The UN might but even then its a stretch.) And I find it hard to believe that if GJ was a US government agency that they would be able or willing to overlook the fact that she outsources dealing with ALL major supervillains to a largely untrained and unsupervised high school cheerleader.
GJ probably does have some investment/cooperation from the US and the UN so that it could function but honestly they have to be an even bigger laughingstock in government, military, and spy circles than the UN is. I mean so far they seem to be letting two teenagers do their job for them for free AND as a hobby.
Independence means that they probably can get away with such little oversight - any government looking at the organization would either completely reorganize it or scrap it. I mean why spend billions on an agency when the same job will keep getting done by the same two teenagers for the same free price?

I actually see the them being controlled by the UN in a similar fashion as the Global Defense Initiative (Command & Conquer), only far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, farfarfarfarfarfarfarfarfarfarfarfarfar, faaaaaaaaaaaar, less competent and likable then GDI.
