Dear Guys:
I was watching a Charlie Brown cartoon the other day, it came to my attention that Charlie was always mooning over his unrequited true love, the "little red-haired girl." I know in one special, her name was revealed, but I can't remember it right now.
For some reason, the thought popped into my head, how fortune Ron was (compared to Mr. Brown) that at least he was able to get his "little red-haired girl." Or maybe KP isn't so little.
Still Ron is so blessed . . . or lucky.
Maybe some of you can expand on this thought.
Sincerely,
JThree carolyn@dia.net

At the end, I wish Charlie Brown had "gotten" the little red haired girl or had her tell him that she liked him.
The other possiblity is that the other girl that Charlie Brown met at a summer camp and told him that she "liked him" would have gotten together.
No, not Marcie or Peppermint Patty.
Dang it, I really wish Charlie Brown lucked out like Ron did. Charlie was a nice guy too.
Mr. Schultz should have had "something" hiddin in a vault.
Sincerely,
JThree carolyn@dia.net

Schulz created the little red haired girl, a character we never see in the strip, though she does appear in one or two of the cartoons. His biographers note that the first girl he proposed to, who refused him, was small and had red hair. This shadowy object of Charlie Brown's affections has become such a powerful symbol for anyone familiar with the comic strip that it's hard not to think of her in the context of Kim and Ron. Yeah. Ron got the little red-haired girl. It was never quite so painful or hopeless as Charlie Brown's struggle though. Ron actually knew Kim, was her close friend and companion. There were times he longed to be more but didn't dare broach the subject, but there were also times when she was in the same sitch. But don't worry too much about Charlie Brown. In the fifty years it's taken for him to age from a four year old to a fourth grader, he's gone from from being the boy no one loves (or at least so he thinks) to the unforgettable Sunday when Marcie told Peppermint Patty she thought Charles was "real neat" and was daydreaming about him asking her to marry him and saying yes! If the little red haired girl is out of reach, there's always the little black-haired girl! Hmm, there's parallels here, too. I'm reminded of some English teacher or other, don't remember which one, who said plots weren't all that interesting, because there's really only a limited number of them. It's characters who make a story interesting, and the meaning and resonance these characters provide. One could imagine a kid like Charlie Brown growing up to be a teenager somewhat like the high school side of Ron (leaving the mission side out of consideration for the moment). The glimpses we do see of Ron at Charlie Brown-like ages show a rather different kind of boy, though he certainly had his own difficulties coping with the world. Charlie Brown was actually much better at handling summer camp! In real life, I think I identified way more with Charlie Brown when I was between 10 and 21 than was probably good for me, though curiously when all developments in my life developed, the love of my life turned out to be small, with beautiful long red hair that reaches her waist. I speak from experience when I say little red haired girls have a lot to recommend them. * * * * * And I believe this, my 1500th post, finally earns me that last star, but we'll see when I click "Post Reply" if it's automatic.

Her name is Heather. I've only seen her once (I don't think Shulz liked that). She looks nothing like Kim.

I believe the little red haired girl actually kissed Charlie Brown in the TV movie "It's Your First Kiss Charlie Brown" Charlie Brown was so happy he did the Hustle and a bunch of other dance moves and really wowed the entire Peanuts gang. In typical Charlie Brown fashion, however, he partyed so hard that he woke up the next morning and didn't remember anything -- including the kiss (Linus had to fill him in on the details)

I'm a Charlie Brown/Marcie shipper myself. "My heart is bent, Charles."
