Ok... when he first got turned into a... whatever that is, he needed to swim in the water for a long period of time to turn into IT. The second time, he only was in the water for a matter of seconds before he turned into IT. I don't get it.

Maybe it was quicker the second time because his body was permantly chemically altered.

Well, Gill aint your normal kid, hes had so much mutation done to him that its reasonable to expect that given the correct situation he'd turn back into 'son of swamp thing' ;D

I ain't a scientist, but I think the second time the sludge was way more concentrated than the first time, kinda like normal hot sauce vs. five alarm hot sauce.

Just a thought, how come Kim, Bonnie an dBarkin didn't change? The other people in the camp mutated pretty quickly.

There was no concept of suspense (or entertainment, for that matter) in "Return to Wannaweep", and we'd all be wise to pretend the episode never existed.

The sludge also had an awfully long time to sit and stew in one spot. And, like dear Ron said, it was highly concentrated in a single area. Oh, and who knows what cleaning chemicals put in the water might have done to it?
And maybe there was a "free will" thing going on as well. You know... this time he wanted the mutation!

Oh, and who knows what cleaning chemicals put in the water might have done to it? And maybe there was a "free will" thing going on as well. You know... this time he wanted the mutation! Yes! It's a kind gene-altering sludge! If you want the mutation, hey, it will give it to you. Or the body will be more willing to accept it. Placebo sludge. It also would explain why the others didn't mutate to the extent of Gill. #1: As Ron said, the sludge was not concentrated at the time and thus less effective. #2: They were not open to the change.
