This is a question I asked myself yesterday while I was reading a KP fic. We all know that Kim and Ron are together at the end of "StD" and they will be together in S4. There is also no denying that most fics posted now-of-these-days (over at FF.net) are K/R. Yet out of the two main characters, Ron is paired with more characters than Kim. Other words, there are more shipper pairings with Ron than Kim. On the top of my head, I know this... Fic pairings with Kim, I know of: K/R, K/S (Kigo), K/Josh, D/K (Drakkim), and a few K/OC Fic pairings with Ron, I know of: K/R, R/Y (Rori), R/B (RonBon), R/T, R/H, R/S (Rogo), R/M (Ronique?), R/Dr. Director, R/Mrs. P, and some R/OC. Hmmmm.... Does Ron have more appeal to fit with most of the ladies in the TV series than Kim with the guys? I haven't read say Kim/Felix or Kim/Wade (when he's an adult!) or Kim/Brick Flagg. It's interesting that Kim, being the star of the show, is not paired more than Ron. I guess that her personality doesn't fit with some of the guys compared to Ron which I could see most of the Ron pairings be possible. What do you think?

There's also Ron/Drakken fics, and Ron/Monkey Fist fics too...
For Kim, I've seen Kim/Bonnie too....
But I think you're right... Ron is shipped with more characters than Kim... One question? There was actually a Ron/Dr. Director fic? Really? LOL

Ron/ Dr. Director? That I've got to see. ;D One of the reasons why he's so popular in fics is maybe because we connect to him. I have a feeling that most of us could be called geeks in a way like Ron. Alsoo who here doesn't want to be Kim's sidekick?

Well, it's only one fic I've read with Ron/Dr. Director, and it's titled "In Her Life" by AtomicFire. It's rated M, and there is only one chapter posted, yet that first chapter is more K+ so I presume the M rating is for later chapters. www.fanfiction.net/s/2843597/1/And yes, I do agree that more fans feel connected with Ron than Kim. Ron is more likable, and his personality also fits well with most of the girls in the show. He is a quite popular.

I do hate to say this, because it's so darned... well, old-school.
but it's possible that more fics have Ron with someone else because he's a male and thus it's more acceptable for him to date outside of just focusing on Kim. Whereas she, being female, is assumed to be a one-man woman and thus off-limits for most writers, subconsciously.
or I've just drunk too much caffeine today...

Well, I think it has more to do with societal expectations. Guys are expected to 'get around' so to speak and girls aren't.

I've done fics myself that had Kim paired with other characters, but one where Ron was paired with another character, myself. And that one was just a one night stand.

Whereas she, being female, is assumed to be a one-man woman and thus off-limits for most writers, subconsciously. Okay, you confused me. What does Kim being a one-man woman have to do with her not being paired with other guys other than Ron and Josh? Ron is a one-woman man, from the looks of it, and most fics, which paired him with another woman other than Kim, mostly have him loyal to that partner. Other words, if one reads say a Rongo (R/Shego) fic, Ron will not date other women if he is with Shego. Same with Kim. Same with Yori. Etc. No, I don't think being old fashion social thinking is the reason why Ron has more shipper pairings than Kim in fanfics. I believe most just don't see that many options for Kim in the series for her to be paired with and fit her personality. Where compared to Ron, there are many options that would fit his personality. As I said, in fics Ron is paired with almost every beautiful woman in the TV series. Kim is not even paired with most of the men.

I think it's more the fact that there are greater oppurtunities for Ron than with Kim. There are few characters that work with Kim as a romantic partner, whereas because of Ron's manner, he is more accessible to shippiness with a greater number of partners that can work.
Kim/Junior just doesn't work, because of their personalities, though I'm sure someone can do it well if they set their mind to it. Same with Kim/Dementor. But Ron has an easier manner about him, and can be more compatible than others, in both straight and slash pairings.
I do also think sexism plays a part though. There is a much greater fan reaction to pairing Kim with someone than there is to Ron (as the reaction to Josh can attest). It's hard to explain why, but it's there.

I know as an author I consider this. Actually considered writing a fic to make a crack on this where Mike and Kim conclude she's only able to get with Ron. Ron on the other hand can get with Bonnie (hey! Surforst wrote it!), Kim, Yori (recent), and apparently Ned (Bueno employee discount anyone?). In the end I have to say as an author I can't see pairing Kim with anyone other than Ron. She just doesn't fit *shrug*.
As for Kim versus Ron in who we like more I actually am now in Kim camp. I think it's reflected by the fact that outside of the fusions most of my stories focus on her. On a whole though I think the community hates Kim just a bit and think Ron is some pure God or something. I dunno just odd the way some people won't forgive Kim for dating before Ron. Anyway that's my take on Kim popularity versus Ron.

Good points regarding sexism playing a role on this reason, for this is sadly true. There are fans who are not forgiving of Kim dating other guys before Ron, while those same fans have no problems with Ron dating Zita, seen together with Bonnie ("Ron Millioniare"), and with Yori ("Exchange" and "Gorilla Fist"). Quite odd.

It's so sad that sexism is a big part amongst the fans. I mean, the show itself is like against sexism. Because, I mean, how many females do what Kim does? Very little. Saving the world has always been a man's world, specifically in the entertainment area.... *tsks and walks off*

I regretfully admit I fall somewhat into the sexist category a bit myself. Not that I don't read and support most ships, but because, despite being a Ron/Bon shipper, I can't really see Kim with someone other than Ron long-term, though I do view it more as none of the other characters really being good enough for her.
Though, in my Ron/Bon, I have her with Josh (it takes place during season 2), I just don't see that as a long-term possibility.

I'm pretty much with the "We writers are creative geeks that identify with Ron" theory.
There's also the fact that there are more eligible girls on the show than there are eligible guys.

Actually I was bringing up the whole issue where most of the fans seem to think that Ron is the most loyal and swell guy ever that would never hurt Kim and how Kim is so shallow and she's just lucky that Ron didn't drop her stuck up behind on the road side. I just feel like the minority among the fans sometimes when I point out that Ron can be just as childish and just as much a jerk as Kim and by God Kim is just as loyal to Ron as he is to her. That was my point.
As for the whole issue of Kim and 'sex' I'll admit I'm one of those backward fans though I try to keep it in check. Don't know what it is but I can hum along happily while Ron sleeps with multiple girls, though I do feel it's OC like crazy, but have Kim sleep with Josh before she gets with Ron and I just feel uncomfortable. Granted I try not to let it affect me but in the end it's just how I feel. Same thing when dealing with rape stories if a young female cannon character gets rapped it feels like a shot to the gut and I can squirm about it weeks after reading it but I know for a fact that when it happens to a young male cannon character I just get ticked off at the rapist but am otherwise unaffected. Is it right? Nah but it's how I feel and it's how I write. Sometimes personal feelings are just that way.
Same thing goes with pairings. Pair Ron with someone I think is wrong for him (i.e. a villain) I just shrug and move on but something in me always gets a little ticked off seeing Kim paired with a person who is so obviously wrong for her and which is so sick that I can't help but get a little ticked off. Again emotions I just can't help but feel though I do try to keep them in check. I remember a story where Kim was in love with Ron but for whatever reason she sleeps with Josh. Now the reviews when this happened were harsh but I have to admit when reading it I got ticked off too. For one thing I didn't like the idea of Kim 'first' being a mistake, for right or wrong that matters to me for some reason, and the second point is just it violates my whole rules of conduct thing in what Josh did. The author though didn't seem to think it was wrong so it was a difference of opinion and I just tried to ignore it. Did it ruin the story to a large degree? Yes and in the end that's just how it is. Is Kim getting rapped a way to ruin a story? Yeah but have Ron rapped and I'll just get ticked off. Again don't know why just the way I feel after all I don't feel it's any less wrong for an older woman to take advantage of a young boy but something just strikes me as more wrong when its a older man and a young girl. Don't know why but that's the way it is.
In the end I think its everyone own personal feelings on the issue. I can have Ron beaten to a pulp, scarred, and otherwise tormented but something in me will hold off just a little with Kim. Maybe it's the fact that I'm a guy who is taught that it's not right to hurt a woman and maybe its the way society raised me. Don't know why but I treat young female cannon characters different then their male counter parts. Part of life I guess. Granted that doesn't mean I won't kill Kim in a story but I always feel that much more worse about it then if I offed Ron. Now Monkey Fist is probably the easiest cannon character for me to kill though. He's asking for it after all. Anyway just my thoughts on the whole debate.
