I'm pretty much with the "We writers are creative geeks that identify with Ron" theory. There's also the fact that there are more eligible girls on the show than there are eligible guys. I'd say its the "Ron Fanfic Factor."

I'm pretty much with the "We writers are creative geeks that identify with Ron" theory. And see I don't see myself in Ron. Actually I see more of myself in Barkin personally now there a role model for today youth. Anyway I guess that could be why people think Ron is always the greatest and maybe their a little jealous of Kim success and that's why she gets slamed so often. Dunno all I know is I like the girl after all she's a good kid and so is Ron by the way. I just don't know how to take all the anti-Kim stuff I see though. Upsets me and all that rather not good stuff. I just dunno.

In the end I think its everyone own personal feelings on the issue. Pretty much that has always been the case with fanfiction. Every writer put in his/her POVs in his/her writing. It's human nature for people to think some ways. Thinking about it, Ron seems to have more possibilities to expand his horizons. He's the goofball laidback guy who can become a lot more if he put his efforts into it. This was shown in the TV series a few times - "Sink or Swim", "Exchange", and few others. Ron does have potential to become Kim, greater than he is. Now can anyone really see Kim becoming Ron? She slacking off, acting goofy most of the time, etc. Yes, I understand that everyone have their down times, and Kim no doubt is no exception. Yet given what we know of Kim from the show, do anyone honestly think Kim would act and behave like Ron and become less than she is? For me, the answer is 'no'. And no, I'm not talking about the occasional failures Kim has endured - not scoring high in driver's ed, not getting a big score in home ec., not capturing the bad guys, failing to turn in that paper (from "Mole Rat is CGI" which still haven't air here in the States. Darn you, Disney!), etc. I'm talking about her really sinking to a low from the high she is currently on. So that's another reason I see Ron has more attention in fics. He has more writing possibilities that could fit what we know of him from the show. Kim too have possibilities, but she's already at the top, and I can't see her sinking to Ron's level.

And see I don't see myself in Ron. Let me ask this. Does anyone identify with being a Kim? I doubt it but I'm guessing that we would all like to know someone like her. (Ooooh, I get to use my Psyche classes.)

Let me ask this. Does anyone identify with being a Kim? I don't see myself as a Kim but I understand her better then Ron. The boy confuses me some times after all while Kim is pretty predictable. Much easier to write in my opinion at least.

Okay, this thread isn't at all about what the title led me to believe. I was thinking "Ron more popular" as in "People write more stories predominately about Ron than about Kim," rather than who can be paired with the most miscellaneous other people.
I'm gonna guess it's nothing more than a reflection of what we see on the show. Other than Ron, Kim has romantic pairing with
1) Walter Nelson (her first mouth to mouth kiss, but we never see him) 2) Josh Mankey (not particularly successful) 3) Erik the synthodrone (he was totally lying to her)
Other than Kim, Ron has
1) Amelia (New Ron) (this is pretty shallow) 2) Zita (What we saw looked like it was going okay. Yeah, it ended, and we can argue what happened in Vir-Tu-Ron to cause this, but if it had been shown going farther, we could see the reasons for this in Vir-Tu-Ron, too. We can guess, but don't know, what went wrong, and never will unless either Ron or Zita tell us in season 4. 3) Yori (This could have actually worked, maybe) 4) Bonnie (arguably Ron's parallel to Kim and Erik, but Bonnie was way more honest) 5) Penny (Ron's first mouth-to-mouth kiss, but didn't survive Ron's nervousness the next morning)
That's two more, and the average quality is slightly better than Kim's, but besides this, Ron is shown pursuing girls at random in "Crush," "Golden Years," "Oh Boyz," and "Triple S." Kim never does anything like this.
The stories you describe just fall into this same pattern.

We all know that Kim and Ron are together at the end of "StD" and they will be together in S4. There is also no denying that most fics posted now-of-these-days (over at FF.net) are K/R. Yet out of the two main characters, Ron is paired with more characters than Kim. Other words, there are more shipper pairings with Ron than Kim. Some of it is that he's a more outgoing personality which makes it easier to picture him with other characters; Kim spent a good chunk of episodes crushing on Josh while Ron practically asked out the entire school in the first episode of the series. Its more plausible to have a story where Ron would end up with someone given that he's much less widthdrawn than she is. The truth is that there aren't really that many guys to hook Kim up with; Wade is too young and by the time he's old enough Kim would already be in some sort of relationship. And she showed zero interest in Brick or Felix. (In fact with Brick she was actually pretty much against wanted to have anything to do with him romantically. And as for Felix, he not only hasn't shown up more than twice in the series but both times she freaks out around him although admittedly for two different reasons. That doesn't exactly set a person's thinking in the direction of a K/B or K/F pairing without a lot of stretching.) That really only leaves Josh and Ron which tend to be the two top choices. Ron on the other hand has a pretty large group to choose from. We have besides Kim - Tara, Zita, Yori, Bonnie, Amelia, and Penny; not to mention any of the rest of the cheersquad who are actually named in the series like Hope or Marcella. Plus Shego. And Monique. Even if we only got an occassional focus on the first few, thats still a lot more choice for pairing Ron up than Kim has. I tend to chock the more Ron pairing to personality issues; Ron is a pretty mellow personality which could at the very least start him off with any of the various pairings fanfiction puts him in. Its easier for him to mesh with different people because we know he's going to let them take the lead. (The truth of the matter is that he actually could have had much more of a plausible active social/dating life during the series if he had been a bit less understandably oblivious. Tara was interested in Season 1 after all; Zita wasn't against hanging out with him in Season 2. And Yori all but told him she had a crush on him in Season 3. That makes stories pairing him up with them seem a bit more plausible than just springing a Kim/Felix or Kim/Brick pairing out of nowhere.) Kim on the other hand is a pretty bossy, competative, controlling and has to be in charge and in the the know. That does make it harder to find someone who would mesh with her personality. In fact if it wasn't Ron then it would have to be someone really Ronnish. Josh, Felix, and Brick don't really seem like the types of personalities who would avoid massive conflict with Kim in the long run.
