Kim Possible: The Unknown
CH:3 The Dance
By Xander Mahaffy
Houses of Parliament
The Ball was just beginning. All over the building, chefs and waiters were hard at work preparing for the ball. Kim and Ron were both dressed in a formal attire Arthur had prepared for them. Kim was dressed in a black dress that looked almost like the dress she wore when she had the “Moodulator” chip on her neck. Ron was wearing a fancy black tuxedo that made him look handsome and dignified. Together, they both were greeting many quests that were arriving at the main door. Most of the people that they were greeting were just wealthy aristocrats and a few other politicians. Arthur was also greeting the numerous guests with Kim and Ron. When Arthur greeted them, some of the guests would give either a firm handshake to him, or either greet him with a hug and maybe a kiss on the cheek.
Kim naturally assumed that these guests that gave him the handshakes were the politicians, and the others that greeted him more enthusiastically were friends and family. She also had her shares of enthusiastic greets. Some of the guest immediately recognized her and greeted her with a firm handshake and said, “The world famous Kim Possible, it is a pleasure to meet you.”
Kim blushed a little after each comment from the guests, but some of them didn’t greet her as much. Some would just walk past her without a glance or a simple, “Hello,” or “Thank you.” She ignored these rude guests and went on greeting.
Ron, however, was not exactly receiving the same attention as Kim or Arthur. Indeed, some guests greeted him nicely and noticed him, but all of them failed to recognize him as Kim’s partner. But this didn’t break his spirit, for as he continued to greet each guest with great enthusiasm.
Finally after a few more minutes of greeting guests, the number of people arriving at the Houses of Parliament was slowly beginning to diminish. Then after a while, the guests just stopped coming. Kim and Ron were then convinced that their part in greeting the guest was over, so then they started to leave their posts to head to the ball, when Kim noticed that Arthur didn’t move an inch from where he was standing. Kim, followed by Ron, went immediately over to him.
“Excuse me, sir, but I think that’s everyone; no one else seems to be coming.”
Arthur didn’t even budge from where he was standing. “I don’t think so Miss Possible,” said Arthur without even looking at her, “There’s still one important person that still hasn’t arrived.”
“Well, who is it”-
Then instantly outside, a large helicopter with the Red, Blue, and White Russian Flag embedded on the side. Kim then just remembered about the Russian ambassador that was coming. After what Arthur had just told them in the limo, she had completely forgotten about it. She also saw the look of surprise on Ron’s face, obviously he also had forgotten about the ambassador also.
Just when the helicopter landed, the side door immediately opened, and out came a large portly man wearing a Russian overcoat. He was large both in width and height. He also had a large bushy beard that covered most of his lower face. He also seemed to have the same facial shape of the Fiddler on the Roof actor, Topol, which made him look surprisingly kind and gentle.
As he just got out of the helicopter, the door immediately closed behind him, and started immediately to take off. Kim, Ron, and Arthur had to cover their eyes for a few seconds to avoid getting dust in their eyes from the helicopter. As the helicopter flew away, the Ambassador walked towards Arthur, Kim, and Ron. Kim and Ron both smiled to the Ambassador as they tried to look as professional as possible. The Ambassador didn’t, however, didn’t take to notice Kim and Ron, his attention was mostly focused on Arthur.
“Ah, Arthur, it’s good to see you again,” the ambassador spoke in a low, deep voice, while speaking in a Russian ascent.
“ It is good to see you too, Zabav Habart,” said Arthur to the Ambassador.
“I must say,” continued the Ambassador, “That I am looking forward to tonight’s discussion of this trade agreement.”
“As do I Zabav,” said Arthur with a smile.
“But I must ask Arthur, I have heard rumors about that this meeting is not only for the trade agreement, but for…something else?”
“You are correct, Zabav,” Arthur said, nodding.
“So, they are coming tonight?”
“I’m not sure, Zabav, but I’m betting that they that they will come since, after all, this is going to be first public appearance since………….my loss,” Arthur said lowering his gaze to the floor.
After hearing this, Zabav then placed his hand on his shoulder. “I’m so sorry my friend.”
Kim was starting to like this man; he was extremely kind to Arthur.
“…………..It’s not your fault, Zabav,” said Arthur, then he took his gaze away from the floor to Zabav, “but thank you for coming my friend,” he said smiling.
“My pleasure, Arthur,” he said, removing his hand from his shoulder. “So tell me, my associates have informed me that because of the risk of, you know what, that you’ve hired the a pair of bodyguards for tonight?” he said with a small smile.
“Yes, yes I did.”
“I would love to meet them, Arthur,” said Zabav, looking a little eager.
“You don’t have to look no farther,” said Arthur with a smile. He then handed Ron his cane, and wrapped his arms around both Kim and Ron’s shoulders. Kim and Ron both smiled to the Ambassador in hope to impress him.
The Ambassador then focused his attention to both Kim and Ron, which he stared at them both. As he stared at them, the eager and hopeful look slowly began to melt away to a look of disappointment, surprise, and confusion.
He then looked at Arthur. “They are…..?” he said pointing at Kim and Ron. Arthur replied by nodding with a smile on his face.
Kim expected him to be surprised that Arthur chose them, after all, they were world famous, but the look that Zabav had on his face made it seem that he was seeing toddlers, instead of a world famous team.
After he gazed at them for a while, he then turned his attention to Arthur. “Uh, Arthur,” said Zabav a little nervous, “May I speak to you, in private?”
“Certainly,” said Arthur, still smiling, and Zabav led Arthur into a small office in the hallway, without Kim and Ron. When both Arthur and Zabav were in the room, Zabav then closed the door behind him, obviously not to have anyone listen on them.
With Kim and Ron left alone they just stood there. Many things were going through Kim’s head now, she wanted to know more about this Zabav, and why he seemed a little nervous around her.
Then an idea popped into her head. Kim then gave Ron a sly smile and motioned to the door. Ron nodded in agreement and put on the same smile that Kim had. They both went to the door as quietly as possible and they put their ears to the door to listen in.
Inside, they could here Arthur and Zabav arguing with each other.
“ARTHUR, HAVE YOU GONE INSANE?!?!” Zabav yelled at the top of his lungs, “YOU EXPECT ME BELIEVE, THAT YOU, WANT TO PUT OUR LIVES IN THE HANDS OF THESE-THESE-THESE TEENAGERS!?!?!?!”
“Now Zabav, I assure you, that these “teenagers” are the best of their league,” said Arthur calmly, “After all, they’re world famous teen heroes.”
“THEN HOW COME I’VE NEVER HEARD OF THEM!!??!” he continued to yell at the top of his lungs.
“Zabav, I’m not responsible for you not receiving any worldly news about Kim Possible, but I assure you, she can do anything, ask anyone.”
Zabav then calmed down and lowered his voice. “It’s just that…….I’m a little worried about this. Ever since your………..loss, I feel that it might have affected your judgment.”
“Please Zabav, do not mention about that anymore.” Arthur said, saddened.
“I’m sorry.” Said Zabav.
“It’s alright, and I assure you, it has not affected my judgment!” Arthur said, raising his voice.
“……..Alright, I believe you for now, but…..I still having some doubts about them.”
“I assure you, Zabav, that all will change tonight.”
“It had better,” said Zabav. Then Kim and Ron heard footsteps coming to the door. They quickly backed away from the door, stood up straight, and tried to look as casual as possible. The door opened up, and Zabav along with Arthur exited out of the office.
As Zabav left to follow the other guests, he shot a glared look at both Kim and Ron. They both smiled at him in order to impress him, it didn’t work. He rudely turned away from them and followed the other guests.
Arthur walked up next to both Kim and Ron. “Boy, he’s a happy camper,” Ron said.
Kim nodded in agreement.
“Were you two eavesdropping on us?” Arthur said. Kim and Ron both jumped and turned to Arthur, who had a look of concern on his face. Kim blushed a little and Ron made a nervous chuckle.
After seeing the looks on their faces, Arthur just smiled. “It’s alright you two, I had a feeling you would.”
They both let out a relieving sigh. “Sorry about that Arthur, I just was trying to…”
“It’s alright, Miss Possible, no harm done.” Arthur said, interrupting her.
“I don’t like him,” said Ron. “Why?” asked Arthur, “Because he’s never heard of you two before?”
“Yeah, that, I mean, how could he not know about Team Possible, we’re world famous!” said Ron.
“I’m not so sure Ron, but I’m sure that his opinion about you two will change tonight,” he said in an assured manner. Kim and Ron both nodded in agreement. “Now come,” Arthur ordered, “we are missing the ball.” And they all followed the guests into the main ballroom; ready to face anything that may come up.
