Here's a real challenge: Make a story similar to the TV show (but not a copy of an episode). That is, Kim and/or Ron have to deal with some situation/conflict that's resolved by the end of the story, while also foiling some villain's plot. If you examine the series, you see that every episode follows this rather loose (compared to some other shows, which are far more restrictive) format. I've been trying to find stories like this, but it's REAL hard. Oh yeah, to make a good story, stay away from the typical fan writer's crutches - no swearing, death/violence/gore/hurting Kim or Ron, no drugs, no sex, no 'tweaks' (taking an old story, and changing one part of it - for example, turning Kim evil instead of Ron, or making Kim bond to someone else besides Bonnie), no changing characters personalities/acting 'out of character', no 'alternate universe' (changes in cast/life changes/marriage/aging/etc.), no stories about new characters (because those stories are always about the new character, and not Kim or Ron), no romance/'shipper' stories (because that's not what the show is about), no controversial subjects and no crossovers (unless it's a Disney series). These are the same rules the real Kim Possible show operates under. I've got many ideas along this vein myself. But I want to see what everyone else can do. And I'm talking a real story, with beginning, middle and end. Some people never end their stories. Others string together a collection of favorite scenes they want to see. But that doesn't make it a story. Also, stay away from parodies. KP only had one episode-long parody (The Fearless Ferret), and one was enough. I know this might seem hard, but once you throw away the crutches and focus on 'the real thing', I doubt you'll be able to stop! If you need an idea, just think of some of the classic plots that haven't been done on Kim Possible, and do them 'KP style'. I see potential stories every week in the newspaper, or springboards for ideas in movies, etc. (simple premises, not whole stories lifted from films). The story could be an already written one, or brand new. Start with a basic plot premise, add some Kim or Ron conflict to be resolved, give it plenty of action & humor and a devious villain's plot (but make it silly!) and you have your basic Kim Possible story! Let's make KP proud! Anything is possible for a Possible (fan)!

and, while I don't mean to sound nasty in any way shape or form...
it's always easy to criticize the writer - put up your own efforts before you put down those authors who have devoted a *lot* of time and work to do KP fanfiction - in any way.
'nuff said.

Yes, as a writer who writes a lot of KP fanfiction and writes a lot in general... I gotta agree with Aers on this.
And not all of the best KP fanfiction is like completely straight with the show (that is, G Rated, like a KP episode, and all of that stuff that sqevans mentioned).
I mean, personally, for me, I've always felt that fanfiction was to show the characters in a different light than on the show. I mean, I adore the show, but I like seeing the characters show vulnerablity, and all of that good stuff that fanfiction has that I don't feel like mentioning right now.
I've said my 2 cents.

I would think that it is quite difficult to write a fanfic that is KP episode-like, because KP is an animation medium and by writing fan fics, you are attempting to translate an animation medium to a story medium. Maybe that's why it's hard to find stories like that.
PS. I was going to say, "But I did find some writers who have done it before", but I also realize that I can't find them anymore, so I'll shut up.

Don't feel like doing it and I won't. I like my crutches thank you very much! Now how about you post some of your 'brilliant' work and stop acting like it's the easiest thing in the world to write. Maybe I'm in a bad mood already but this ticks me off. Always complaining and never producing. Bah!

While I like sticking with the storylines and have written a great deal of KP trying to stay true to the episode format, I found it very refreshing to write Confessions of a Little Black Dress.
Writing challenges don't always have the same effect from writer to writer. For some it will be impossible to complete the given challenge because it falls outside their range or experience (writer what you know...) and for some, the challenge is to reach outside their abilities. It just depends what kind of writer you are. It's neither positive or negative. I have a highly visual style of writing which means I can easily slip into episodic format. My challenge is to work on the internal parts of the characters and have learned a great deal in achieving that.
I think that one thing that most people look for in fanficiton is the mental/internal side of things because the show they're a fan of doesn't deal with. It can be a lot of fun to jump inside the characters' minds and see what each other has to say about what's going on up there. My goal, and I hope I've been making headway towards it, is to be able to seemlessly combine the two. All the fun of an episode with all the intresting aspects of the character's internal thought processes...

Well, I do admit that I like my KP fanfiction to follow the same feel of the show...but at the same time... that's not always what fanfiction is about.

That's what fanfics are all about. NOT re-writing canon. I don't to do a 'Mad Libs' version of KP. No fun in that! :DHey, my tales could be on TV... Skinimax. I'd make a fortune! Then use my wealth to take over the world!!

Dude, honey attracts more then vinegar. I should know I have spread plenty of vinegar and it doesn't work well.
