Lectures:FashionQuizzes:Natural Sciences
Listen up people! It's been my pleasure to teach courses here at Middleton for many years now. But over the past few years I've seen a disturbing trend. Students have been getting lazy and the work is becoming slipshod. This is unacceptable people! I was grading homework this past week and came across quite a few easily avoidable errors. I'm going to start sharing them with you so that students can learn from other's mistakes. Also, since your work has become sloppy and I feel the internet surfing is to blame, I'm going to use this thread to give pop quizzes. You're required to answer these questions if you're a Middleton student and in the class from which the questions are taken. (Therefore, not all questions may apply to you.) Regardless of whether or not you're a student at Middleton, I'll be providing extra lecture sessions here as well on various subjects. Everyone is welcome to join in on answering and/or commenting. The students can use all the help they can get. - Barkin P.S. This thread is for all educational and school-related discussion. Questions for me personally should still go to the appropriate thread.

What I am going to show you here is the tipping point at which I realized this thread needed to be made. I assigned some math problems over the weekend and this is what I got back: ... Wrong! Just plain wrong. This is basic pythagorean theorem here folks. Use a 2 + b 2 = c 2. You may think you're clever by answering like this, but this is homework. If the solution is too easy and you did very little work to get to it, it's probably wrong.

You should also probably point out which line is a and wich is b, just to be sure.

You should also probably point out which line is a and wich is b, just to be sure. C is the longest line in the triangle, and is always opposite the largest angle. A and B are the other two sides, sometimes known as "legs". It matters not which leg you label A and which leg you label B since Addition has the communitive property (which means you can swap the numbers around and still get the same answer.)

I know that. Kids these days though, just look at the buffoon.

You should also probably point out which line is a and wich is b, just to be sure. Why? It doesn't matter if you do "12+9" or "9+12". Woulb be harder if he would have required b and gave c and a.. then it would matter which is which one. Btw, that's a good one, should use that in my math class..

You should also probably point out which line is a and wich is b, just to be sure. Mego already covered it... But I mean, I'd just be giving the answers away if I went over everything. I still want the students to work out some things for themselves.

I know that. Kids these days though, just look at the buffoon. The buffoon, is in fact, quiet smart if he wants to. But he usually doesn't want to be smart, he's lazy and stuff..

Moving on to physics, I was disappointed to see the following response to this question: Once again, laziness does not pay off. The student began with the right approach, but forgot to remember that the ramp is frictionless. Even if there was an elephant in the way, it would provide no resistance and the spring would still compress. In short, I'd better not see shortcuts like this on the next quiz!

Stop picking on the buffoon, he invented some world-conquer-machine in just a day, was able to use some of your stuff you weren't even able to use AND i bet he's much smarter than you! Btw, the elephant is kinda small. Not very realistic

Stop picking on the buffoon, he invented some world-conquer-machine in just a day, was able to use some of your stuff you weren't even able to use... By sheer dumb luck. AND i bet he's much smarter than you! He's barely passing high school.

Did you even pass it? My high school grades where excellent. Only A's and B's. ... Except P. E. This was the buffoon's work, wasn't it? Except in extremely special cases, I will not reveal the author of these mistakes. I knew it.
