One thing I've noticed, watching the earlier episodes of the show is that Ron's voice was much less high pitched sounding than it is today. I mean, I know it takes a few episodes for voice actors to get "settled in" on their roles but the change here is very notable.
What made Will Friedle decide to give Ron a much higher pitched voice?

It's not only Ron, Kim's voice has also changed a lot.

Well yeah, but usually boys go from high voice to low voice as they grow, Ron went through like, backwards-puberty lol

well remember, when CCR first auditioned to be the voice of KP, she was 16, now she is what 20-21 or something, even older.
The voice naturally changes as time goes on. we do have to remember that

I haven't noticed that much of a difference in Kim's voice. If there is a difference, it's not as jarring as it is for Ron. Ron, he has a fairly deep voice in the first season. As the show progressed, his pitch seemed to get higher until Mentor of our Discontent, where he sounds more like he's 11 than 18 (or whatever he's supposed to be).

I've always thought Ron sounded much more deep and manly in the first season. It's like he's backpedaled. Or turned into a gay man stereotype. (The way he says "I've been looking all OVER for you!" in Stop Team Go, for example.) I Don't know if it's a bad thing or not. Kim's hasn't changed quite as drastically, I don't think. Though the other day my sis asked if they had changed her voice actor or something, had to explain that no, she'd just grown up. Big difference in 16 and early twenties.

I was like 'Ron, that's awfully camp!' ;D I hated the manly voice in Season 1. It wasn't as quirky as it is now.

its all about gowing up (sic) Then shouldn't he have started out with the high voice and deepened it later on, instead of the other way around...but given how Ron is presented in these episodes, the voice fits.

Will Friedle explained in an interview that he looked at Ron's picture and tried to find a voice to fit. He eventually came to the conclusion that Ron would be the type of guy to talk very loud and high pitched.
I have a feeling Ron's voice might deepen in later years, but not by much. Maybe just going back to his Season 2 voice. That was the perfect voice for him, I thought. Season 3 was too high for me. Season 4 is like a combination of Season 3 and Season 2 - sometimes it fits, sometimes it doesn't.

Well you see, it all started in between the filming of the first and second seasons. He had to get a root canal and asked if they could give him some laughing gas.... Poor guy forgot he was wearing the mask for a week. Had effects on his voice among other things.

I think the higher-pitched voice does fit him more. When it's the deeper voice, I just see Eric Matthews, not Ron. I have a recording of Christy Carlson-Romano in the Original Broadway Cast recording of Parade from 1999, and she sounds nothing like Kim... Of course, she does speak with a southern accent.

Yeah, both Kim and Ron's voices have changed. But I think Ron's voice is better now, than he was in the first season. I mean Will makes a great job with his voice actor. And nobody else can replace Ron, even though Will Friedle is soon 31 years old.
