The 4th Annual Fannie Awards

Can I get a BOOYAH? That's right folks, it's that time again, time for the Fourth Annual Fannie Awards! This time, we are looking at the best of the best for the year 2008, and there are quite a few to choose from this year. The new season continued to have drawn interest as we saw a further influx of new authors and new ideas, giving us over 1000 new stories this year. So many tales to choose from, so little time.

So let's get to what this is all about! You, the people, are the ones that decide who wins each and every award! Make your selections on the handy list I'm providing below. Any story written or contributed to in the year is eligible to win, with one exception. Those stories and writers who won previously in a category can not win again this year, though the awards for Best Writer and Best Series can be the previous winners again after 2 years. This is to help open up the field for everyone to have a chance. See the list below for all the details.

This year, there will still be 2 rounds of voting. Voting for the first round will end at 11:59 pm EST on January 31st, 2009. These ballots will be done as normal, by the ballot form provided below.

The second round will start immediately after that. There is one difference from last year though, and it's that the second round will only be the top 3 in each category plus ties as opposed to top 5. So now, the top 3 vote getting stories and writers in each category will be entered in the secret poll format hosted on my forum on fanfiction.net just like last year ( www.fanfiction.net/forum/Kim_Possible_Discussion/329/ ) . For those without an FF.net account, you can email your response to me, and I will add it to the final count. This round will run for another 2 weeks, until 11:59 pm, February 14th, 2009.

The awards show will then start Sunday, February 22nd 2009, after all votes have been tabulated, award winner speeches submitted and added, and all the details are finalized.

On a final note, I would like to thank those helping me with putting this event together this year. Commander Argus, webmaster supreme, and the members of the Fannie Awards Committee, Triaxx, King in Yellow, and CaptainKodak, not to mention all the little things so many others do. Questions: 1) Say that I have several of the titles in mind, but not all of them (since I don't read Kigo, might not like songfics, etc.). May I still PM you with the votes of which I am sure?

2) Can it be any story updated in 2008, or must it have been started in that year?

I asked zaratan via PM on FFnet never got a response, so I'll ask here. What's the deadline for the fics that can be nominated? Is it strictly 2008 fics or do any 2009 fics that have been submitted between January 1 and now count? Reason I ask is because, to be honest, I've only really read fics in that range thus far, so if they're not eligible, I guess I don't have much of a ballot to fill out.

If a story was begun in 2008, it is eligibe. Also, if a story was started in 2007 and continued through to 2008, it is also eligible.

If an author won in a given category in the previous Fannies, then they cannot win it 'again' this year. For example, Grimm Probable won the Fannie for 'Best Original Character' last year - so he is ineligible for nomination THIS year (though Rhonda and Jade ARE eligible since they were nominated, but did not win).

I'll vote in all the catagories for a K/R story of K/R writer but i won't acknowledge anything that doesnt have canon realationships. Also i'm hoping again the best writer, story, series, romance and well most others go to K/R writers. So i think Slyrr has the best shot as a K/R writer for the best writer so thats who will get my vote for that most likely because i need a K/R writer or more specifically a writer who doesnt write that disgusting k word crap.

The last thing we need is to give the people who do that k word crap incentive to do more of it. It always ticks me off. It's those people who ruin it for everybody because of there disgusting fantasys about two straight females, who hate each other, who have tried to kill each other, who both have boyfriends, and so on.

I wish i could be like TPTB and dismiss fan fiction.. They don't read it and some of these people make me wish i never read or heard of fan fiction. And thats a shame because there are some darn good writers in the kp community like MrDrP, CommanderArgus, CaptainKodak, Nutzkie, Slyrr, YVJ, and a few others. The other ones are too much.

So with all that said. I'm voting for all K/R stuff.

Hey, there.

I haven't really been paying any attention to these Fannies, as contests have never really been my thing, but I must admit that after I got an email last year telling me to vote for the Fannies, I have a question.

I don't mean this in any kind of offended way, and I'm guessing it has to do with the preferences of whoever runs the Fannies, but I have to wonder why there isn't a category for D/S.

Anybody know why?

Also...wow, somebody has sure been getting more and more hostile towards alternative pairings lately.

I've been wondering about that, too, and the only explanation I can come up with is that there aren't enough D/S stories to make the contest interesting. I have no idea how many there actually are, but certainly not as many as K/R or Kigo.

That kind of makes it hard to vote for D/S, though. I don't really see it as an alternative pairing either (those should be something truly rare), so I guess D/S writers aren't exactly in the best position at the Fannies.

Yeah, you've got a point there. Just too few stories, and out of those, too few good ones.

Yeah, D/S is definitely not an 'alternative pairing', especially considering it's canon.

It has a very good following, just not as many writers as K/R or KiGo does.

It's true that the VOLUME of submissions of a certain kind of story may have something to do with whether or not it has a 'category' in the Fannies. There have been some award categories in previous Fannies that have since been removed because there wasn't enough interest.

And even this year, Zaratan has said that the number of submissions for the 'best Kigo' category has been 'small'. I'm sure it's not because any one type of story is being 'snubbed', but you can't make enough categories to please everyone, because someone will always feel left out. After all, there are potentially as many categories as there are writers, and some of them, while fun, are really obscure....

Some of them I'll bet get lumped in the the 'Best AU' category and are nominated anyway....

When it comes to my own work, I must admit that I'm not really sure how to categorize it. It's usually a convoluted blend of multiple styles: A sort of fluffy, comedic docu-drama with overtones of social commentary and a healthy dose of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. Just stir it all together, simmer for 20 minutes and serve!

Therefore, in light of this wholesale categorical confusion, I'm going to refrain from listing my eligible stories by category and instead simply indicate what they are. The arduous task of categorization I will leave to you, the voting public. Good luck, suckas!
