I sure as hell do. And Sean Kingston.. that new artist.. is a great example. Seriously.. if anyone listens to the oldies.. they would know that "Beautiful Girls" and "Me Love" are total rip-offs. "Beautiful Girls" is a rip-off of Led Zepplin's "D'yer Mak'er" and UB40's "Red Red Wine". "Me Love" is a rip-off of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me". *rolls eyes* He probably thought he could get away from it, because nobody in our generation really seems to listen to oldies. Afterall, all I see are comments like, "OMG.. THESE SONGS ARE THE BEST. I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE!" wow. Lack. Of. Creativity. Apparently I wasn't the only one to notice, looking at reviews. People either are so naive, and don't know, and love him... or they do know, and noticed, and hate him for it. Ugh!!

COMPLETELY. worst case for me would be vanilla ice's way super original song "ice ice baby." it sounds nothing like queen's "under pressure"... also there's this recent cover of supertramp's "breakfast in america." it's by far the most annoying thing i've ever heard. i love supertramp, but god, that hip hop remix is almost ruining the song for me.

The first music genre I ever liked was Oldies. Since then my tastes have grown and I love Heavy Metal, Alt Rock, Rap, Hip-Hop, Adult Contemporary and etc. So I can recognize a sample when I hear it in a rap song. Remember it's only stealing if you don't credit the original artist. I do think some artists use too many like Kanye West but as long as the originals get paid it's all good. When they don't it get's settled in court so still it's not really stealing but I get you're point. That Beautiful Girls song is so bad but I just can't get it out of my head. It's just so catchy and I can't help myself. I have heard the album in really BAD! www.allmusic.com has a review of it that pretty much nails it on the head. For what the review said I thought it got way to high of rating there 3.5/5. You're way too beautiful girl That's why it'll never work You'll have me suicidal, suicidal When you say it's over darn all these beautiful girls They only wanna do your dirt They'll have you suicidal, suicidal When they say it's overSuch a bad song But it's so catchy. vanilla ice's way super original song "ice ice baby." it sounds nothing like queen's "under pressure"... Lol. You know the sad thing is Queen took Vanilla Ice to court for saying he did not credit Queen and Queen lost. lol. It's a complete rip off.

I don't see anything that says they did credit.

One of the kids at work was going around singing "Don't You Want Me," so I informed him the song was older than him.
Apparently some hip-hop artist has covered it. BLEARGH!

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar When I met you I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around Turned you into someone new Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet Success has been so easy for you But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now And I can put you back down too

For any reason I'm most of the time okay with it, when rappers do this. Probably because Hip Hop had from its beginning always to do with samples of other peoples songs. And most of them even buy the rights for these songs, so it's okay if it sounds good. I just hate it when cheap pop acts steal from other cheap pop acts, just because they know that their target audience (Kids between 6-13 years) never heard these songs. And trust me: they do this all the time! Mostly even because they are the same producers and THIS is what I call lack of creativity!

Oh, I just can't STAND this! I hate the lack of originality these days.
Madonna's Hung Up steals from ABBA P.ussyCat Doll's Beep steals from Electric Light Orchestra Gym Class Hero's steals from Supertramp
I wish they would leave the classics alone!
Although, I'll give GymClass the benefit of the doubt that they recieved permission cos the song is so obviously Breakfast in America, but I still don't like their remake.

Madonna's Hung Up steals from ABBA Yes someone else knows this! I would of said something, but that would mean admitting a deep knowledge of ABBA...<_<..>_>...<_<.

I know ABBA can be kind of corny sometimes, but the classics can get away with a little corniness. In fact, that's almost what makes them good.
It's like how in old Disney movies characters bust out in song, but nowadays you can't get away with that cos it seems corny, but when you watch the classics, it's just right :D

I think what bugs me the most is when our generation doesn't KNOW that these songs are rip-offs of amazing, wonderful orginals!! They're like, 'BEST. SONG. EVER." "Yea... too bed it's not the original!!"

Yea, people on my softball team were NUTS about that GymClassHeros song and they always would tell me how "white" my taste in music was because I didn't like every mainstream song that'd come out, but at least I gave those songs a chance, and actually knew them. They'd never give any band that wasn't on Mtv a serious listen. It drove me crazy, but I was never able to tell them that GymClassHeros song was a Supertramp song cos I didn't want to sound like a music snob, but how I wanted to :P

I don't hate it at all, as Mr. Potty said earlier hip-hop started off with people sampling the music of others (De La Soul are the first obvious ones that spring to mind) and then rapping over the top of it. I personally quite like it, such as Puff Daddy's (or so he was called at the time) song I'll Be Missing You which used the music from Every Breath You Take by the police. He also took the guitar riff from Led Zeppelin's Kashmir for the basis of Come With Me, and even got the guitarist Jimmy Page to play on the track.
Long story short, they're not stealing songs, it's called sampling and it's how Hip Hop started.

Coldplay's song "Talk" uses the melody from an old Kraftwerk-song, by the way. So even the most respected artists do that from time to time.
