Star Wars fans can be real snobs! Honestly, the most unappreciateive people I've ever met online are star wars fans. I recall when I was a dedicated poster on their forums, when I had my fanfilms put up, when I wrote fanfiction, you never get the help you seek, you never recieve decent criticism, all you get is a negative rection or no attention whatsoever... I was just talking with some fans right now about the new fanfilm and none of them could believe that I stood up for it when they called it 'crap'. They said I had "an inflated ego!" See how they immediately try to turn the arguement into something personal? When I put up my 'Save Kim Possible' thread in the star wars forums I was laughed and mocked at until I got pushed out rudely. They called me a child, and yet they cant even hold back the flames and have a constructive debate. I never went back after that day... I'm so grateful to be here among real friends here.

Tell me about it. As a Star Wars fan who loves the prequels, especially number three, there is a lot of hate going around. Still, you should see the Transformers Fandom. I've been a Transformers fan all my life, it's my number one hobby, my passion, and as I've watched the movie grow from Greenlight to release, I've seen some of the snobbiest, whiniest, most ungrateful fans ever. You know, the people who will moan about how horrible the designs are, WHILE THEY BUY A TOY OF THAT DESIGN. Leaving me, who likes them A LOT, without a new toy to buy. People that wish death threats on Micheal Bay, even though the movie was amazingly awesome and pulled in lots of people. Which is not to say all fans are like that. Of course not. On the whole, Transfans are a cool group. I guess my point is that no matter what fandom you belong to there are always bad eggs. Even if they do make a up a vocal portion.

So sorry to hear they treated you that way. Sadly, this is not uncommon in sci fi fandom. I used to run a Star Trek based sci fi fan club ... and you would not belive some of the stuff that went on there. Considering its supposed to be a hobby and something you do for fun, i saw people reduced to tears on a regular basis and even at a party, one friend of mine was thrown out for wearing captains rank when 'they hadnt achieved that rank within the official starfleet fan club' ... I mean . .COME ON! Its a dress up costume! Dress up by all means (I do!!) but you cant be taking it that seriously! And thats just one minor story of teh many i could tell... DC: Anytime you want somebody to have a look at your fanmade films and stuff, i will gladly do so! And promise to clap and cheer in all the right places. heck ... if you are coming to study in the UK, you have a professionally trained actor here at your disposal!

Are big Sci Fi fans just CRAZY or are they mentally screwed up. It's fiction, they shouldn't take it seriously. I mean, they're the crazies who DRESS UP to see the films at the theatre, right?
But, the Transformer fan gave a good point. It doesn't matter what fandom you're in, there will always be jackasses. I myself have only been in 2 fandoms in my entire 'Net experience, The Lion King fandom (which is waaay too big) and this one. I skim the borders of Harry Potter fandom (I don't think I'd want to be around too many HP fans, too crazy).

Real Bullies aren't they. So because you like KP they kicked you out and because you have a different opinion? That's exactly how it went. They basically said I should take my lame little recruitment drive somewhere else...in a foul and inflamatory sort of way! And what made it worse was that the mods completely turned a blind eye to the whole thing! And thanks nakedmolerat, you'll be the first I would cast!

There's nothing crazy about wearing costumes for sci-fi conventions. I've worn Star Trek alien costumes to Trek Conventions on several occasions, and I'm not crazy. Everyone I met there who was in costume was friendly and normal. Some people I met at conventions had absolutely incredible costumes that took real artistic talent to make. Costume making can be a great form of art. As for Star Wars fans, the few I knew at school did actually seem snobbish, but only when the topic of sci-fi came up. They all seemed to think of themselves as superior to Trekkies. I'm not sure why. But I don't think ALL Star Wars fans could possibly be snobbish. I think we've just had bad experiences with a few of them.

Yeah, there's a crazy war between Star Wars and Trekkie types eh?

Lol, well as the Transformers fan, who also likes Star Wars and plays WoW, there is always all sorts of fans in every fandom. I have no problem with cosplaying, it can be kinda cool...it's when the people don't bathe and stink up the booths at the convention that it becomes a problem. (Yes, I've been to several Transformers conventions.) You know, the people who talk to the ones in charge of the thing they love as if THEY were the ones that owed THEM. You know, yelling at the people from Hasbro for making Arcee a motorcycle instead of a car lol. However you also get the really cool, passionate people who really care about their hobby, people who really bring out the best the fandom has to offer.
Speaking of conventions, why don't we have "Kimcon?" ;D
