Back in the day, when Ranma 1/2 was still big and I was really following the fan community they would have what was called a one hour contest.
It was very simple and fun. At a predetermined time the issuer of the contest would post a topic. Then within one hour of the posting of the topic anyone that wished to participate would write a short fanfiction dealing with the topic and post it.
Over the next week or so the community would read and vote on the best work.
Anyway, I thought that this might be something fun to try with the KP community. That is if we could get enough willing participants.
Would anyone be interested in doing this?
If so then we could flesh out the rules and get it started.

I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. I love writing, but it might take me longer than an hour to create something worth reading. After all, it takes me about a month to update my circulating fanfic... but I'll try anything once.

I can forsee a problem of different time zones... Now that I think about it, you do have a point. There is also the fact that not everyone has access to the site all day to see when the new topic is posted, which kinda fits in with the different time zones problem.

If people are interested in doing it we can work out something.

We would just need to find a time frame that works best. I'm thinking a week night like Monday-Thursday of next week.

Sounds fun. I'm willing to do anything but work on the stories I already started ;D
Anyway timezone is a problem. Could make it a whole day thing. Nothing says it has to be an hour.

Anyway timezone is a problem. Could make it a whole day thing. Nothing says it has to be an hour. The problem with giving all day is that it introduces the variability of available time. Some people just have more time then others. We could lengthen the time period and limit the length of the finished piece. This would still in effect limit the effects of time availabilty. For instance we could give a week for submissions but limit the submissions to 25,000 characters, this way it will fit in one post on the board.

Sounds like a idea, However it might interfere with the 2 other stories I have sitting in the vast expanse known as my brain ;D But why not. Could be fun

Though as I'm sitting her writting a couple thousand words for just external documentation for a program *and I wanted to avoid writing by getting a non-lib art degree* I can't but help thinking if I have time for a real indepth work. Scheduel this during winter break though and I should be fine. Looking forward to the contest.

Winter break sounds like a very good time to do this.
Now we just need to get the word out to more authors. Let any fanfic authors out there know about this. The more the merrier.

Count me in. LOL I sat down and did "Sleep" in about a couple of hours. I normally don't do deathfics but this one really jumped out to me. I'll keep watch and be ready.

Okay, I think that I have figured out how I am going to do this.
Rules WIP1
1) A topic will be posted.
2) The story will have to be related to the topic in some way.
3) The story can be no longer the 25,000 characters, including spaces. (Microsoft Word has the ability to check this under Tools>Word Count…).
4) All submissions will have to be submitted fourteen days (two weeks) later by midnight. (The time will be calculated using the clock on rs.net).
5) The day after the contest is finished there will be a two week period to allow for voting.
6) A winner will be declared. (A nice graphic for them to display on their website would be cool. Perhaps a contest for that as well?)
I have a couple of topics in mind. If no one has anything to add about the rules then I am planning on starting the contest on Dec 7th ending Dec 21st .
Tell as many people as you know. The more the merrier.

I see that Captainkodak already knows about this, but I just went ahead and spammed the GWA with a link to the thread.
